If you own multiple ranges, how do you decide which order they should go? One could go with a seemingly logical option of; 1st Doctor Adventures, 3rd Doctor Adventures, 4th Doctor Adventures, 8th Doctor Adventures (and continuations), War Doctor, etc But where would the rest go? Do the companion series go next with Companion Chronicles followed by Sarah Jane Smith, Charlotte Pollard and Diary of River Song? Should Jenny go in the Companion collective or the New Series Assortment? Should Class chase Counter Measures?
Or do you go by which range was incepted first. i.e. Bernice Summerfield, Doctor Who, Dalek Empire, Excelis, Sarah Jane Smith etc
And also would you mix in Non-Big Finish, perhaps slotting in the Nest Cottage Chronicles just before the 4DAs; The Killing Stone in the UNIT union
Of course you could just say "to hell with segregated ranges" and put everything in release order.
I am NOT putting too much thought into this.

I display mine in cardboard boxes in the loft. Bit simpler than your approach but not as visually effective

Because height order is everything the special book releases are first. After that it goes in range release order- so for me its the Main range, the companion chronicles, the EDAs + all future mcgann series, the 4DAs, the war doc series and the 10DAs. After this ive got the lost stories as the spines stand out from the rest and special releases at the end of the doctor who ranges.
After this i have the spin offs in a similar way; so Benice Summerfield ranges at the start, Dalek Empire, sarah jane smith, galifrey, I Davros, then some loose storys and non doctor who releases at the end.
But yeah to some up, mostly in range release order baring a few expectations.

I bought CD/DVD binders to put them all in (plus my DW DVDs). I was doing it in order chronologically by Doctor, but with the releases by Doctor often jumping around their own lifetime, plus figuring out how to put spin-off ranges in, plus simply the sheer quantity of releases...I gave up. And then once they started asking extortion prices for shipping, I gave up on physical releases altogether. I am a walking, talking cautionary tale of what not to do

No room to display them. They are in cardboard boxes wherever I can fit them. I had a hard enough time finding a place to display my Doctor Who DVD collection! (The DVD collection is in a bookcase in front of the books. Yes, they are blocking the book titles and I have to remove one or more DVDs to get at a book.) This is part of the reason I now buy mostly downloads. (The other part being the high price of shipping.)

LOL, yeah, me too... all around-7-dozen BF CDs I own are only currently viewable to brown cardboard and packaging tape.
... well, except I have "ripped" copies of all of them, so I could show you a picture of a small hard drive encased in my home-network backup computer under a table on the other side of the room.

Chronological order by the Doctor's timeline. This often makes it insanely complicated to work out where a new release should go (and difficult to remember where to find it) and involves a lot of shuffling of CDs to make space.
I think I should switch to release order on the basis Life's Too Short.

Count me in to the cardboard box club. Maybe one day when the children have grown up and left home they might be displayed on a shelf.
(The cds not the children that is)

In chronological order by Doctor. Originally I was going to place the spin offs following there first appearance in the Main Range, but with some adventures it would be out of order because a previous Doctor may meet them after a later Doctor does. So I just keep them separate now lol.
With adventures in boxsets that I can take out, I just put a card in the chronological place saying where to find that adventure

Been there, haven't done that. ("Too many" books. They don't go away just cause kids leave home. In fact, they tend to accumulate...somehow...anyway. )

The last time I moved I had to downsize my library - about 30 boxes of books got donated. Some of which I have since managed to reacquire.

Ha! I'm not surprised. I actually tried to get rid of some of the kid's books. We have a whole bookcase full, because my mother volunteered for the public library and used to bring over piles whenever they had a sale. (They used to do full up a big grocery bag for some ridiculously low price.) But my daughter objected. Guess who's getting those books when she has kids?

I don't have room to display it (and I'm starting to run out of room to store them...naturally it won't stop me from buying them though...) most of my CD's are stored in a couple of drawers/boxes out of the light/dust. not sure how many exactly I have now must be over 100 at least...

They are all in boxes now as I have too many CD's to line up on a shelf. But at one stage it was Main Range by number and spin-offs in order of release and then in order.

Put up a couple of shelves. Here's a pic of my collection. Top shelf is almost complete main range. Bottom shelf is as follows First Doctor Adventures > The Early Adventures > The Third Doctor Adventures > power gap because I have the other two Nest Cottage box sets in the post > Hornet's Nest > Philip Hichcliffe Presents > Fourth Doctor Adventures > Eighth Doctor Adventures > eda etc > War Doctor > War Master > Gallifrey > Dalek Empire > I, Davros > Cyberman Right click, view image to see it in full

See a photo (and what a photo!) so it can be done.
