Episode 10 The scattered thoughts: - love the tape-recording format, very much reminiscent of Beyond the Grave (still my favourite DS) - whole thing gave me vibes of the movie The Witch - rapidfire, still LOTS to digest (and again, dying to listen to Bloodline straight through) - we still don't know who cast a spell on the tape recorder - what is the witch/ghost thing chasing Cyrus through the woods? - is it just the moon line in the song that Tom reacts to? Or is the song something Amy sang to him as a baby? - the Dr Hill of 1820 is a murderer, it seems. Is that what's in the bloodline of the Hills, that Rosier is interested in? - so Marina's dead and it looks like Jackie did it but it was really Dr Hill, setting up the trial scenes in earlier episodes. I think it was newt5996 that called that one? - Carolyn back in '74....so she's probably got it easier than the rest, because that's only ten years in the past, and she'd have lived through it once already - is Carolyn right though, that it's one of the people on the tape causing it? If so, how does she know? - unless I've missed something, this is the first episode of Bloodline to feature no scenes at all set in the 'present day' period of 1984 We appear to be getting more information on the Sands family, though I'm still not clear on what role they have to play in this whole thing: - Malachi Sands was in Blood & Fire, working for the Collinses - Harry's 1967 recording features a Nurse Sands - the administrator of the hospital in 1984 is Bridget Sands (might be same person as nurse) - teenage girl in Bloodline is Bonnie Sands, possibly Bridget's daughter And if I got my character appearances right.... Harry recording (approx. 1967) : Harry Dr Hill (native) Nurse Sands (native) Tom recording (1767) : Tom Sarah Fillmore (native) Lela recording (1797) : - after Victoria tied to a tree overnight Lela Reverend Orville Trask (native) Jackie recording (1820) : Jackie Marina Lane Dr Hill (native) David recording (1870) : David Anna (native) Jeffrey (native) Carl (native) Cyrus recording (30 Dec 1899 - 1 Jan 1900) : Cyrus Charity Trask (native) ghost/witch (native) Vivian recording (1925) : Vivian Jamieson Collins (native) Sabrina recording (1949) : Sabrina Sam Evans (native) Maggie Evans (native) Carolyn recording (1974) : Carolyn

Beyond the Grave is my favourite Dark Shadows story, so I was pretty pleased with this episode

As usual, i have much to say. -I was wondering if Harry had gotten sent back, and I was right! I was surprised he was sent back to just the 60s though. -Jackie sounds a bit off in her sections, it almost sounds like the voice has gotten more high-pitched? -Im wondering if this was originally planned for the 50th anniversary? Unlike Bloodlust its filled to the brim with lore from the show and has oodles of fan-service. I loved that mention of Magda. -This found footage episode is great. I was wondering how they'd juggle all these characters but somehow theyve managed it. -Ive gone back and forth on Vivian Bell as a character. Sometimes I kind of like her, other times I legitimately cant stand her. This episode I definitely liked her in this one. -Cody’s great grand dad is up to something supernatural for sure...I guess this explains the line about his Bloodline. -So it sounds like Jenny’s ghost is haunting the woods? Wow. -Harry saying he wants to get to know his mother kinda hit me hard. It was sweet. Having the tape cut from Viv to Harry was really something neat. I guess he had a lot of time to get to know her while listening to the tape. -Oh god, Marina Lane....that was the darkest this has gotten in awhile. What a chilling ending.

1. By my math, around about 1967.... We had it confirmed a few episodes back that Jackie is 17, and she's the same age as the two boys. Dr Hill says his baby is Cody, which I took to mean quite young. So...1984-17 = 1967.
2. Yeah I noticed that too, there were a few spots where characters sounded odd. The other one was at one point David sounded a bit deeper/more gravelly than usual. My take on that was that it was just meant to be wear-and-tear on the tape, but I genuinely wasn't sure whether I was right about that or not.

Oh have I got thoughts {Spoiler} -I really like the found footage format -Marina and Jackie working for Cody's ancestor, called it. I went back to episode 2 and they were very careful not to mention names
-If Cyrus is being pursued by Jenny, is his mother also a Marie Wallace character? And he's in 1900 so Charity kept in touch with the Collins' afterwards. That's kind of nice.
-David mentions a mad woman in the attic, presumably Jenny...but Quentin isn't born yet
-is it bad I want Lela to change history? Go save Vicki!
-Jackie finding out about the fire is a great reaction -Sabrina Stuart Longworth-Jennings...in 1949 makes it interesting that she still is thinking of Chris and of course she has a suitor. And young Maggie. And god Paul Stoddard...that's worrying considering Jason is around
-Harry is also back in the TV show timeline...right at 250.
-Vivian living with Magda Rakosi is interesting as she's post-Petofi.
-it's great to hear a Trask! Jerry Lacy's always great and so much fun with the religious fervor and the idea that he tried to kill Lela, well
-what is Richard Hill up to? He's far too touchy with Marina Lane and he's definitely the murderer -the Liz and Jason cameo! It's great to hear Joan Bennett's voice through the archive
-So Jackie doesn't kill Marina Lane with Dr. Hill actually killing her I think, it seemed intentionally confusing
-So Milicent Collins is with Willie Loomis and Daniel is a total b***ard
-Cody's father might be the overall villain in a possible Phoenix type situation
-Carolyn disappearing to 1974 means two Carolyn's in the same time period so please Big Finish! Give us a multi-Carolyn bit!
And in conclusion Barnabas, Julia, Amy, Quentin, Jessica and Ed Griffin, the couple, Rhonda are still in the present if I haven't missed anyone.

Please take a bow, Alan Flanagan - bravo!! To paraphrase Tom, Beyond the Grave is not better than Bloodline. What amazing use of the found footage/found recording theme. That last one really was sort of the calm before the storm, eh? {Spoiler}
-Yes, I think a number of scenes have the tape recorder not running at quite the right speed - especially at the end ;-) (See what happens when you mix magic with technology, you get batteries that last 400 years and a tape recorder that won't play back at the right speed). ;-)
-The scene with Sabrina, and Elizabeth and Jason - wow!
-Did I get that right, Carolyn thinks one of the people who's been sent back is the one who's responsible for everyone being sent back?
-Did I just hear the word tower a lot?
-Stella Young! Very cool! That's even cooler than the Flaglers. :-)
-Wow!

So it's not specifically about Bloodline, but rather an abandoned story idea going back to Bloodlust, but I saw a neat exchange between Joe and another person on Twitter just a minute ago. While this is an abandoned storyline, I will spoiler tag it anyway JUST IN CASE you don't want to read about a plotline that is apparently not happening...
As always -- really appreciate Joe and Rob being so involved with the fans who love this series!

Abandoned storyline spoiler: {Spoiler}
Yeah, they can't get rid of Cody "Eagle" Hill like that. We love Cody!
Brilliant idea to keep him and the rest of the main Bloodlust cast, and thanks Joe, Davy and everyone for that.

As always -- really appreciate Joe and Rob being so involved with the fans who love this series! Well that gives me a bit of an insane theory: Ok so its quite common for characters in Dark Shadows will often times share characteristics with there ancestors/relatives-Andrew Cunningham and his ancestor in The Creeping Fog were both self serving, all the Trasks being priests, etc. What if modern day Dr Hill is still alive? We know Codys family has had experience with Demons before now. I dont know why hed do this but think about it- he mightve started the fire to fake his own death.
Furthermore, what if (and this part I highly doubt), Rhonda is involved, perhaps as an unwilling accomplice? That COULD explain why she wanted to get Jackie “out of Collinsport”.
And in episode one the couple were gossiping about two people-two people theyd seen at “the cave”- presumably Angeliques cave, which may have still some amount of left over magic floating around and potentially some of Amys old spellbooks (Quentin gave them to Angeliqe in an episode of Bloodlust)

I was trying to find the part of episode 10 where Carolyn was speculating about who's responsible, but I can't seem to find it - although even for having a second listen to little bits here and there, it seems like there's so much going on here that some of it might have been easily missed? Maybe tomorrow I can listen to the whole thing and find it again. Whatever it was she said, Carolyn might have been onto something.
Edit: Oh, I see - that was the very last track (and I think newt5996 is right as to what Carolyn said there). Well, I really enjoyed listening to the whole thing again to find it. :-) That was a lot of fun with Bloodlust to listen to the latest episode two or three times sometimes to try to spot as many clues as possible, something I haven't done so much of with Bloodline.

Came out of this one...even more confused than usual, which is really saying something. Episode 11 Quentin and Julia talking about how the Blue Whale burned down 10-20 years ago...what? The Blue Whale that appeared throughout the TV series and countless times in the audios? Since when did THAT burn down? Oh my god that Blue Whale music Was the Jessica/Ed in the past thing real/have they gone back in time too (together)? Hold up, did Barnabas just kill both Jamie and Bonnie? I think I may see if I can get in a full re-listen of all of Bloodline so far, before Monday's episode. See if I can make a bit more sense of everything in my head! Only two episodes left!

Right made it through the episode and now I don't want to wait until Monday for Episode 12! {Spoiler} -the ending is absolutely chilling: Barnabas losing control and killing Bonnie and the other one while Julia pretty much confesses her love for him without actually confessing her love for him is the most effective ending yet
-So has pretty much everyone in town been sent into the past? Like the present really is down to bare minimum
-I loved all the little references to the other parts of the show and audios, the music, the scenes, the archival footage
-while it wasn't a pregnancy test as I had predicted, Jessica's secret is a great little reveal
-Nancy Barrett stole the show as both Carolyn and Charity, both characters are great with an honorable mention from Jamison Selby as Ed having to go through THAT situation.

Finally got to hear an episode when it came out rather than next day. Another momentous installment! Leave it to Aaron Lamont to make sure that Dark Shadows can still scare me out of my wits. I don't think I even know half of what happened, either - I'm really going to have to listen again before the next episode comes out. {Spoiler}
-Do I even have this remotely right that it's almost as if the past and future might be starting to collide, and Anna Collins might be in the middle of it somehow?
-Yet at the same time, Marina Lane and Rosier also seem to be in the middle of it, but Rosier is still a mere demon and Son of the Dark Lord no less is still no further away than the basement? I've no idea what's going on, lol, but every bit of Bloodline thus far has been absolutely amazing.
-This was worth the price of admission just for the Barnabas and Julia scenes.
-Some outstanding material for Jamison Selby lately, awesome!
-Ursula Burton as Susan, yay!
-Heard Jim Storm's name in the credits, hooray - but somehow I didn't catch what character he was playing.
