I will warn you that you list the 1941 out of sequence (and you've already listened to the last of them) The Posioned Soul leads into Fall of the House of Trask which includes a scene from the simultaneous London's Burning - so it would be best to listen to both the Posoned Soul and Londons Burning before Fall

I first remember Murray Melvin from Jonathan Creek-episode he was brilliant then in a Torchwood episode but i really have no interest in Torchwood at all.

I just feel on the stories relating to the laye 19th century arc there are 4 climaxes which follow on from the earlier stories using either scenes or ideas from those stories so it is better (but not mandatory) to be familiar with the previous stories A Collinwood Christmas follows on from Dress me in Dark Dreams, the Wicked and the Dead and the Doll House (Judith/Collinwood) Fall of the House of Trask follows on from The Carrion Queen, the Poisoned Soul and London's Burning (Trask & Faye families) Operation Victor follows on from The Skin Walkers, Londons Burning and the Creeping Fog (Quentin) The Darkest Shadow follows on from the Blind Painter and the Eternal Actress (Charls Delaware Tate & Amanda Harris) of course this is just my recommendation which you can ignore and it's really only the climaxes that matter (and of course the Crmson Pearl can't be fitted in one place in a chronological sequence and some of the others involve flashbacks or time travel)

On the one hand, part of me feels a bit OCD about the idea of things at least partly designed to be listened to in a certain way being done differently. But on the other I find it interesting to hear how people get on when they do pick up something that's a sequel.

I think one of the genuine strengths of the range is that despite there being so many tie-ins to the TV show and arcs between the audio stories, the individual releases can be enjoyed on their own merits.
Whilst you'll get more (much more) from Harvest of Souls, say, if you have listened to House by the Sea and Beyond the Grave, it is a very strongly written two-hander in its own right with two brilliant actors and everything you need to know is encapsulated inside the tale.
If you've listened to the others, mind, it is elevated for sure.

thanks all for your reply’s Anothermanicmondas, bobod and Rob Morris. I understand all of your explanations normally if i knew a series i would wish to do it in order but i went into Dark Shadows with only a smidgeon of background and therefore just wanted to dive in randomly .I knew David Selby so at first after Bloodlust i began with him and then, enjoying the drama and that the soundscapes i just did random picks based on others recommendations. It is has actually in no way spoiled my enjoyment.I think it is one of the strengths of the range and the storytelling that you can jump on,enjoy and unravel the pieces as you go.There is nothing worse than jumping into an arc heavy story and unsure of what the hell is going on.On these the story’s tend to stand individually as Rob says and they do get multiple enjoyable listens and am sure as i have said when i do the run from the beginning once my collection is complete it will be even further enjoyed

Turn the lights off! I tend to listen to all of them with lights off or is it just that Bleak Weather outside thats making it so dark?I find i enjoy the audios just as am heading to bed Curtains shut

I must chime in with my thoughts on listening order. I have NEVER (and that’s capitalized because it’s an absolute ‘never’, not a shouted ‘never’) attempted to listen to Dark Shadows (or anything else) in chronological order. I don’t like it that way, and always prefer release order. Despite my work on the chronology, it was never meant for me, but for all of you who seem to prefer that. The serial jumped around in time, and therefore, I like the listening to do that as well.
Granted, some audios rely heavily on others...Harvest of Souls after House by the Sea, for example, but those were released in the proper order anyway.
So, I do applaud audity for his random listening approach. It IS fun piecing together everything—the way you would if you started watching the TV series a year in, which is how I started. However, I guess I’m a little OCD myself....but not for chronological, but for release date. I have to start with #1, and listen through to #50. I just don’t care for groupings based on storyline and chronology.
Weird? Maybe not—but definitely in a minority on that method.

It tends to be release order we're recommending for the linked up stories.

I did do the Tony and Cassandras before the box set came out. I think the "set" s are helpful also if you want to pick a group of stories at one time. I would be more intersted in following a specific character than actual chronology.

Those are the two audios that really got me interested. I had heard three or four before but these ones got the claws sunk in. The Claws definitely sunk in on Panic and dug right in deeper on Flip Side. Listening to The Enemy Within this morning. Did you get round to telling us how The Enemy Within was?

I get the following a specific character and am sure if Leya had had more stories i would have followed her first. But i do not regret the way i have listened.I have the rest of my life God willing to piece everything together.

Tonight i have THE POISONED SOUL-which am fair looking forward to. I read some reviews that seemed to put downThe Fall Of The House of Trask-personally i thought it was a really strong tale full intricate little plot points that all pay off from what i have already listened to and loved the twist at the end as to Cyrus Longworth.Even listened to it during both breaks at work and the register was even better. No complaints yet on any i have heard and that is unusual.
