I must chime in with my thoughts on listening order. I have NEVER (and that’s capitalized because it’s an absolute ‘never’, not a shouted ‘never’) attempted to listen to Dark Shadows (or anything else) in chronological order. I don’t like it that way, and always prefer release order. Despite my work on the chronology, it was never meant for me, but for all of you who seem to prefer that. The serial jumped around in time, and therefore, I like the listening to do that as well. Granted, some audios rely heavily on others... Harvest of Souls after House by the Sea, for example, but those were released in the proper order anyway. So, I do applaud audity for his random listening approach. It IS fun piecing together everything—the way you would if you started watching the TV series a year in, which is how I started. However, I guess I’m a little OCD myself....but not for chronological, but for release date. I have to start with #1, and listen through to #50. I just don’t care for groupings based on storyline and chronology. Weird? Maybe not—but definitely in a minority on that method. I'm a listen in order of release date person myself, though I haven't listened to much Dark Shadows yet. But for any of the Big Finish ranges, I just find it easier to listen in order of release date than to try to figure out where each release belongs chronologically in the characters' time line. So maybe not so weird. On the other hand, maybe you and I are both weird.

Yeah you both are 😇 I feel for me it doesn’t matter am a timely wimey kind of guy brought up on Doctor Who time travel so chronology to me doesn’t matter am looking for good storytelling and strength of audio dramatisation.I fully recommend Ela Dark shadows in any order the tales do tend to stand up on their own and i totally love piecing things together. Like i said once i have them all i will listen in the order that the picture chart shows. So far am loving it.

I've bought several Dark Shadows releases, but haven't listened to them yet. I listened to a freebie several years ago and didn't love it, as recorded in another thread. (And noted as either the best or worst review ever by Rob Morris. ) But I'm willing to give it another go, as evidenced by the fact that I've bought several more releases. Stories that make your skin crawl and vampires are not generally my thing. I'm not really into horror type stories overall, though there are instances where I've made exceptions. I think it's partly because my brain's way of visualizing and absorbing this stuff makes it terrifyingly real for me.

My mother and sisters are the same they avoid creepy stories. It is each to their own i like horror movies i dont like gore it’s unnecessary i watched a recent x files from season 11 and thought “no need for that” I dont think Dark Shadows is like that at all the horror is what is happening to the characters, its not gore. yes and i remember that quote about the best and worst review that was a classic

To be fair - and you may or may not believe me - I'm not really into horror either. I hate visceral horror. I like ghost stories and unease but mainly mystery. It's interesting because Curse of Shurafa has quite a body-horror-esque monster, but for me that's so not what the story is about and I'm always a bit surprised that's what people focus on (naively, it seems). For me it's about two best friends (in an admittedly relatively toxic relationship) and the lengths one will go to to save the other, and how that's being used by the villain of the piece. The fact it's Barnabas and he's a vampire and always has a clearly stupid default go-to plan just drives the story and the relationships. If it wasn't for the characters and the soapy elements of Dark Shadows I probably wouldn't be quite so interested. It's the mix of the gothic and the soap that makes it interesting for me. (And no, Idon't like soaps either. It's definitely the mix.) I'd give Twinkling of an Eye a go, frankly. Penny's story is beautifully pastoral and elegiac. Quite dream-like really.

I'll add Twinkling of an Eye to my ever growing TBL (to be listened to) list.
