I've trouble understanding how Counter-Measures could be harder to sell than, say, ATA Girl or Shilling and Sixpence, which seem sort of out of the blue relative to what seemed like an established devoted CM following in evidence on DU. I would certainly continue to buy Counter-Measures myself. It would be tragic to have heard the last of them, the one and only Sir Toby particularly.

I think that there might be a sense of unknown territory when it comes to the originals range, as opposed to a range that is in the reds. A risky property would be better as opposed to a safe bet that they would lose money. The other thing is that there is successful examples of download only/originals working in Dorian and Cicero, so there is a natural progression to attempt that format again.

According to the podcast Counter Measures has now gone the same way as Pathfinder Legends and The Omega Factor (and possibly Survivors at some point in the future?) and been bought to an end by low sales. I can't help but wonder then if a downloadable audio book reading (ala The Omega Factor : Spider's Web) rather than a full cast production is a more cost effective option to keep those ranges alive? Or is it just the case that sales are not even strong enough to justify that? I guess I'll never get an answer to those questions, but I hope BF at least explored all options before pulling the plug. Wait what? No! That's heartbreaking I was just relistening to the entire series, again. Really am a big fan of Counter-Measures. At least they'll be in Legacy of Time... :/

Well, there are no plans for a second batch of the originals so it's not as though ATA Girl or S&S are replacing Counter Measures - it'd be rather sad if BF stopped trying new things to see what takes off and only did the greatest hits. The CM team got what? Nearly 20 stories over 6 boxsets and some standalones and crossovers...it's not a bad innings if this is the end. I didn't care for the last set terribly much and actually haven't loved the series quite as much since Series 4 or so though I'll miss having all the players on BF rotation and hope they pop up elsewhere. I've wanted a Biggles series with Simon Williams since I was a kid. COME ON BF!

Presumably "The Hollow King", the story which was recorded for last year's set but bumped out of it by the Intelligence story, is going to be lost to time forever?

Was it actually recorded or just written for? If it was recorded Big Finish would be silly not to release it. Perhaps along with one final story to wrap up the range and give everyone the chance to celebrate this series. it is always sad when long running series are just left and not wrapped up probably. Not only for the fans, but I would think that from a marketing point of view it would make perfect sense.

It's a shame, because I love the Counter-Measures team, but whilst I liked the New Counter-Measures boxsets enough, they didn't match the quality of the original series IMO. The only thing that's a real shame is that it sounds like they're giving Counter-Measures a rest overall (aside from Legacy of Time), it'd be nice to see them pop up here and there occasionally still.

It's like the Novel Adaptations all over again, where there was a following keen on them but not enough people buying to financially justify continuing the range. I bet that's why the Comic Strip Adaptations are with the Fourth Doctor, he's an easy Doctor to market with nostalgia. The Big Finish Originals are about using existing and new Big Finish talent to create dramas with original characters, and none have been confirmed to get second bites at the apple. In the podcast Nick said there were no plans at this point for a second series of ATA Girl, Cicero or Jeremiah Bourne. Plus these are on download, so there's no cost in physical production for CDs. Nick has said numerous times that Brexit has made materials more expensive.

No more Counter Measures?! I'm pretty sad about that, my favourite BF series. most series do have a shelf life surely.I haven’t heard any of the Counter Measures box sets so cannot really make a judgement on it.Like Torchwood though it isn’t on a list of things that I really HAVE to listen to.But I do believe Big Finish should do a finale to things so that at least if I decide in the future to invest in listening to them then they can sell to me a completed set. There is nothing worse than A DVD saying complete series 1 when there never was a second series. Like Jago and Litefoot I know there was a final episode(that I still haven’t listened to lol deliberately)

Well, make sure you buy series 1! Or download the first story which is available in BF for free. The second one is also free on here somewhere. Doctor Who is still going, and CM knocks spots off many of the average DW stories that are released.

Yes now that I have played catch up with the backlog am beginning to look at other series I love Omega but am resigned that it may not get a finale which is a shame.I actually just saw the free download of episode 1 which I shall get and see if it’s to my liking I know all the actors in it are top notch it’s just been a matter of what do I really want to buy not that I wouldn’t enjoy.

Am persuaded the first episode is eerily right up my street the audio soundscape is brilliant and the actors really believe in the characters. I guess i just needed a kick up the ass to listen.Least none of them are aliens or Timelords or have superpowers or immortal.Need totally human characters for a change

Thanks i really enjoyed that Episode and given that it was FREE am expecting that if BF can give that one away free the rest are probably a very high standard.Even the incidental music was excellent Will check the bank balance tomorrow lol in preparation 👍😀

As are the Main Range & Worlds of Doctor Who appearances. I never really got why it relaunched as New Counter Measures from a creative standpoint except as a way to try and reignite interest in the range. And now that I write that I realize that maybe that was the first real clue that the range was losing listeners or wasn'r performing as well as BF would like.
