Well that is very unexpected. Nice for the Torchwood Archive era to get some attention. Wonder if this puts a follow-up to Jeremiah’s story in The Torchwood Archive on the cards...

First of all, great title. And it’s good to see they’re once again focusing on other eras of Torchwood.

I’m going to be completely honest and say that after my last subscription ended (no. 37-48) I was happy to sit out the range for a bit. It’s not that it was bad, quite the opposite, some of my favourite stories came out during that run, but lockdown and actor availability meant that we’d had the same 4 or so characters popping in almost every release and I was willing to sit the range out so I wouldn’t get bored as I assumed the trend would continue. Torchwood is one of my favourite ranges and I definitely wouldn’t mind a year with just Tosh, Owen, Ianto and Andy as I love those characters so much but if that happened then I’d probably wait until after they were all out to buy them so I could binge listen. I should’ve had more faith though as every single release announced since (bar maybe 49 which uses Andy and Owen again, they are a great pair and some of my favourite stories don’t get me wrong but we’ve had quite a bit of them recently) has bought something new to the table, something which I thought wasn’t possible as we’ve had almost every major character that they have the rights to appear in Big Finish now. I love these new directions as it proves that Big Finish can do so much inventive storytelling while still making it feel like Torchwood and just shows the strength of the range. Now I just need to figure out where I can get the money from to resubscribe before next month 😆

I had completely forgotten the Torchwood connection to the Satan Pit

I feel like we've discussed the possibility of bringing Zach back on the forum before, so it's surprising to realise that this will actually be the first time. I like it when they explore areas of Torchwood's history that are pre-existing (I don't mind the Norton/Queen Vic stuff, but I really struggled to see the point in the LA or WWII episodes; notice how neither of them were ever picked up for a sequel?), so I'm please to see we're getting at bit more exploration of this kind With all the discussion of Earth's empire being discovered through the Classic Series Blu-rays, I wonder if we can expect a Draconian or two in this?

Considering the almost universally negative reception I saw towards ‘The Dollhouse’ it doesn’t surprise me that it never got a sequel. But I’m surprised they never followed up on The Dying Room. Felt like there were many storytelling opportunities you could done with a few stories focusing on the activities of Torchwood during the Second World War. Part of me does wonder whether the lack of a follow up was merely done to certain actors not being available or something.

I remember being completely nonplussed by the existence of The Dollhouse, and the only character I liked was killed off anyway so I'm not that disappointed we haven't seen a follow-up. I might have to revisit The Dying Room as I don't really remember anything about it (though it do recall it was totally predictable, so I imagine I'll probably find it the same a second time around). I think it could be interesting to have some more stories set during WWII though. Seeing how various world agencies acquire alien tech and how it's determined who should/shouldn't use it and what should/shouldn't be used could be explored on a much more adult level in Torchwood than it could in regular Doctor Who releases. I got the feeling that guy from The Dying Room was stunt casting though, so it might be difficult to get him back for further stories.

The Dying Room also tied into Parasite a little, though I don't think it was beyond Project Hermod being in both.

Might have to bump The Dying Room much further up my re-listen list...

First of all, great title. And it’s good to see they’re once again focusing on other eras of Torchwood. As I said on Twitter... I also was going to just list eras they should explore but then got carried away... I'll put it under a tag for longness (though it's in the Tweet thread too!) THE WHEEL OF PROGRESS: Following an alien invasion of an orbital platform, a young Torchwood Operative dispatched for cleanup meets her match when she meets the base's scientific advisor, Zoe Heriot. But what does Torchwood want with Cyber-technology?
I WAS A ROBO-MAN!: Following the Dalek Invasion of Earth, Torchwood uncovers a Robo-man who seems to have survived conversion and claims to be the legendary Torchwood agent Jack Harkness. But Jack's been missing for a century... and the shadow of the Daleks looms large...
EYE OF THE DRAGON: A Draconian Torchwood agent walks into a bar. The agent is Issakal Zar, who can get answers out of anyone. The bar is on the frontier planet Legion, owned by the very person of interest that Issakal's been hunting. But Irving's out and his friend Benny is behind the bar...
THE DAYDREAMERS: The SSS and the Torchwood Archive have long been at odds, but now a new Earth government wants them to work together. When a murder occurs at the Daydream Lounge, Pluto's hottest holocelebrity club, the first pair of agents is assigned. But can Agent Anya Kingdom trust the mysterious Archivist Kallox?

Slightly o/t but re The Dying Room, I thought it was excellent (and yes Torchwood itself was the character really) and I didn't see the ending coming at all!

Saw this on Twitter, but hopefully this might mean that Claire Rushbrook returns to her role from The Satan Pit!
This is one of those stories I never realized I needed. I'm not the biggest fan of IP/SP when I last saw it, but the fact that Shaun Parkes is coming back and this could mean Earth Empire explored through Torchwood is insanely exciting!
EDIT: I see they haven't announced a writer, but I had assumed it was written by James Goss... might this mean that Matt Jones might return to Doctor Who to write this?

Also, for those that didn't see, or don't follow me on Twitter for my podcast, I had the chance to interview Scott Handcock, James Goss and Lee Binding, where they mentioned this, among many other things. I don't want to give to much away, but they did briefly talk about the fact that the pandemic caused a lot of scripts and a couple of characters to be sidelined due to availability. Now I don't know who these specifically are, so the rest of this is speculation on my part.
So my guess is that Eve <Myles just doesn't have the ability to record from home, which is why Gwen has been MIA. I also suspect that there was a couple of solo adventures and a couple team ups written. Otherwise, there aren't any major characters missing, now that Jack has made a return to the range. However, I do imagine that Indira Varma was supposed to record one or two from other chatter I have heard, and that they are keen to work with Murray Melvin and Simon Russell Beale again.

However, my final thing to say right now is I genuinely cannot wait for whatever Torchwood and Big Finish bring next
