I found this news to be underwhelming, i was hoping either McGann was back as The Doctor for a future story alongside Capaldi's Doctor or some missing episodes had been discovered.

www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/entries/953c5b1f-3cc8-4db9-8184-f1b6567260f1The only thing I fear is that Big Finish have managed so far to handle "spin offs" reasonably, if not arguably very well, in fact they have won awards for this concept. However I just fear that the BBC think with a different mind, and see the Who Universe through totally different eyes, it is very easy to make something which fundamentally is good, very bad, very quickly, to the point where you tarnish what has gone before. I suppose I will have to wait and see, who knows I could be pleasantly surprised. Lets wait and see.

I'm not really sure about this. There's no indication as to who's in this series - e.g. a past companion or character from the series. This feels like a fake version of 'The Sarah Jane Adventures' in my opinion. I wasn't very impressed when reading/listening to Patrick Ness' 'Tip of the Tongue' story. My complaint with that was there wasn't enough Fifth Doctor and Nyssa in that story, so I'm sure how I'll react to this new spin-off series. Perhaps I'll be wrong about it in due course, but honestly at the moment I'm not very excited or bothered about this. Tim.

I actually thought BBC 3 was endng due to cuts at the BBC? Depending how meetings go down I believe. Otherwise it is becoming an online only channel; so this would technically become a webseries.

I'm open minded. It's not going to be SJA-like. That's not Young Adult. SJA was for a much younger, primary age audience hence CBBC and not BBC3.
I think the reason fandom has been so against this is more the BBC hype on Twitter than anything.

I still think with BBC 3 and 4, they should combine them into a single channel. I think it could work but i'm diverging lol.
Class should be interesting. I do hope they have a cameo at least by William Russell in it too

BBC 4 is far too good to merge it with BBC3. I'd imagine the viewership is around 40 years older too.

BBC4 have had almost no freshly commisioned drama in years and when anything does well on BBC3 it gets poached by BBC2 (though I think Bad Edication managed to stay on BBC3). Class might be fun. A Who spinoff aimed at the YA audience is something quite fresh. The press release quotes Buffy and Hunger Games. I think that's maybe a tad ambitious but hey..why not aim high? I'm intrigued as to what Who elements will bleed in. Maybe Courtney Woods will be in it?

That would be an interesting touch also would continue the link of people who first appeared in main Who being the link for the spin-offs rather than just a spin-off with it being in the universe

She's a face viwers know from the show and she was kinda fun. I did think having her back for the Moon ep was a bit odd. Maybe that was sewing the seeds of Class' new star - after all, doesnt she become President

I assumed it would be set around Courtney. Otherwise, there'd be no character to link it to the main show (unless that guy who dresses like Matt Smith is the star!), since there's no suggestion that the JLC is going to be in it.

I agree entirely yet Courtney doesn't seem to be mentioned. I've read a lot of online chat about "Will Jenna be in it?" but does anyone actually think she'd leave a flagship BBC One primetime role to play the same part in an online spinoff? She's just signed up for a huge ITV Drama about Queen Victoria. I think Class, at best, could hope for a small cameo. Courtney seems the ideal choice. Besides..One of Jenna's biggest pre-Who roles was Waterloo Road...I think she must be sick of schools

Britain doesn't have a President and the President of the US needs to be born in the US. This made me scratch my head when it first aired.

This made me scratch my head when it first aired. No reason why she can't have been born in the USA (like Boris Johnson) or even, conceivably, on an American base outside the US (like John McCain, and somebody else I was reading about recently).

I wish we could send Boris back, let him pay his US tax bill. I find his refusal to pay his US taxes odd indeed, I agree for US expats US tax laws are really quite harsh, but all he needs to do is renounce his US citizenship if he doesn't want to be subject to US tax laws, a simple choice, but he wants to be a US citizen and to refuse to obey US law, using his profile of mayor of London as a shield against arrest and prosecution.
Anyway, a total aside, as for the Who spin off, I'm certainly wary, and find the lack of solid information strange, but for me the Sarah Jane spin off worked and I see no fundamental reason why a new spin off couldn't also work, but before I make my mind up, I will watch the show.
