While a good episode, its not great, it might give kids bad dreams though.

Wow. For an episode called Sleep No More, it almost put me to sleep. That's the first stinker of an episode this series for me. Though, I'm not surprised, given it was a Gatiss episode. His episodes tend to be more misses than hits for me.

I loved it. Thought it really shot past and I couldn't believe it had lasted 45 minutes. Thought I'd spotted some camera mistakes, but it turned out they were deliberate. And Clara's got sleep in her eye. hope that comes back later but I don't think it will.

It just seemed... boring. I can't remember the last time I felt so apathetic during an episode. Not nearly up to Series 9's standards.
Oh well, I've really enjoyed the rest of the stories so I shouldn't complain just because this one episode didn't hook me.

I enjoyed it, but I found the origins of The Sandmen to be a bit silly. I understand playing down the 'found footage' aspect for kids, but it doesn't quite work in the usual very stylised presentation of the revival series. Still, it was fun and atmospheric, 456 was a sweetheart and the ending was a nice little jolt for the kids at home.

The ending was odd for me - not often we get The Doctor leaving only for the villain's real plan to manifest afterwards. But then I read the DWM preview - which has a big interview with Gattis and Shearsmith - and I read Moffat has asked Gattis for a sequel. So I guest it won't be unresolved for too long.
Reece was great. The rest of the guests had undercooked parts, intentionally since we're told they're unimportant at the opening and the events we see are edited.

I'd forgotten about that - I'm not sure if I really like the idea of a sequel, it rather takes the edge off the ending and I just assumed The Doctor would figure it out and sort everything out anyway.

In some ways this episode is rather clever. The fact that this is manipulated footage throws into doubt what actually happened. The military characters seems generic because for the purposes of the footage they are interchangeable within the types represented (cynic, grunt, leader). The episode is different, which I believe will make it more of a marmite episode among viewers.
I liked the idea of the Indo-Japanese culture in the 38th century, not going with purely Caucasians with the token Ethnic character. It's rather reminiscent of Firefly, where the culture there incorporated Chinese (most prominently with the gorram swearing).

Random thoughts.....I feel like it is a testament to the strength of this series that this episode, which isn't bad at all and in spots was really quite good, is the weakest link thus far this season. I felt like The Sandmen were pretty creepy and with a little more care & development might be made into something of a villian I would like to see more of. Capaldi as always was amazing. Coleman's Clara was back to being underwritten. As something of a bottle episode, the dark & the shadow helped sell the thing and kept it from looking too cheap. On to The Raven!

Wow, that was even worse then I expected. This episode wasn't just dumb. It was boring.

I thought it was okay - didn't grab me like some did, but not a bad one either, Capaldi good as ever.

Better than expected but i don't like the found footage approach to storytelling.
Capaldi once again the best thing in this episode, the writer's don't do his acting range justice.

I long for the RTD days of straightforward, unrushed stories with real, clear-motivated characters.

I personally feel there as been far better than last nights episode. The concept was ill thought out it could have been used to more effect. Clara having sleep in her eye was a clever hook if ever that was needed in a Dr Who storyline. Overall this season as not been that bad. But let's put last nights down to "could do better"

Did my usual rewatch. Found I liked it less the second time around. So many interesting ideas were left on the table unexplored. A society that has eliminated the need to sleep would make for a fascinating hour or two. Human drones bred for battle & menial tasks is another. In a universe where we have Sontarans & Ood, exploring a culture where humanity does it would seem to have a lot of milage in it. The idea of The Doctor sleeping could also be something to play with. Anyway, as with a lot of Gatiss scripts for Doctor Who I find this script to be both underwritten and overwritten. And honestly, instead of going for the interesting material...that could have used a second episode to flesh out...they went the empty headed route. And that is too bad.
