I couldn't find anything on the forum with the search function about it.
I'm listening for probably the first time since it came out and damn. Psychodrome has to be one of the best stories Five has ever had. I'm moving on to Iterations of I parts 1 and 2 tomorrow on the half hour drive to work

I'm moving on to Iterations of I parts 1 and 2 tomorrow on the half hour drive to work I couldn't find a prior thread, either, so this is probably it. Most likely because it first came out before this forum existed. I'm sure it was discussed extensively on the official (now-defunct) BF forum. I thought the Fifth Doctor Box Set was excellent and well worth buying. The only (minor) issue I had was that Matthew Waterhouse hadn't quite found his Adric voice yet. He's much better now.

One of my first Big Finish orders if I remember correctly too. If I remember correctly, my first order was The Light at the End and the Gareth Roberts Presents Box Set, my second was the first two seasons of Dorian Gray, and my third was this and UNIT - Dominion.

Psychodrome is extremely rare among BF, I think, in that it feels like a story that could and really should have been done on television at the time.

Psychodrome is an amazing sequel to Castrovalva. Fits perfectly, both thematically and stylistically. Loved it.

If you check out my thread in the artwork section I have tonight put up two covers for these stories which Iain Robertson has just finished for me I thought both stories were brilliant and even better on my second listen these last couple of weeks.

Solid stories. And yes, the "Adric voice" wasn't 100% there initially.

Very nicely done. I particularly like how they bookend each side of Season 19 not only chronologically, but thematically as well. We start with something that wouldn't have been out of place in Bidmead's science fantasy (immediately post-Castrovalva) and end with a much edgier Sawardian story (which feels like it's directly prefiguring Earthshock). My favourite feeling coming off Iterations of I after the whole boxset was having all those characters click together. The Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa, Adric, they all suddenly made sense in the context of their dynamic. It feels kind of strange knowing that we didn't have these stories until recently because they slot in so well with what's going on with this team at the time.

Oh I loved this set and still give it a listen every now and then. Shame a Volume 2 never really happened.

Well it did, kind of, just the stories appeared as CD's in the Main Range as opposed to in a box! The Star Men/ The Contingency Club/ Zaltys were every bit as good as anything in the Fifth Doctor Box set. All of the stories with that TARDIS team seemed to work well and be very enjoyable.

Yeah, we've had three more boxsets worth. Or two more stories than if there'd been two more boxsets instead of two more trilogies.

Yeah that's true! Really, we got three more volumes of these! Star Men/Contingency, Zaltys/Kingdom and Ghost/Serpent. That's also a good reminder to me to actually listen to the five stories that aren't The Star Men! (my subscription tends to pile up a bit)

Iterations of I really hasn't captured me as vividly as Psychodrome did. Maybe the later half will do it? Honestly, if you asked me what Iterations of I was about at this point, I could tell you it's Irish and there's an evil irrational number.

So, in general, would you recommend this to someone who is not really into the 5th Doctor and has, so far, only seen a handful of his TV stories? However, I try to keep an open mind and I am always looking for interesting and fun stories and this one even appears to have won some prizes...

I wasn't the biggest fan of the Fifth Doctor on TV, but I enjoyed this box set.

I loved the interactions between the Tardis team and also the guest charcters and stories themselves are interesting.
