I just listened to it all. And...
Oh my gosh! I actually enjoyed it! Every story as well! I didn't just like it, but I enjoyed it!
There isn't a single dud!
Hey. Dorney, Mulryne and Fitton.
Thumbs up

I've only had time so far to listen to Legion of the Lost. And...wow. I enjoyed the first boxset, but this is already a giant step up. Great stuff!

Personally, I really hated the first boxset, because it was so undaring and unimaginative and even stupid in places. And the second one is a complete breath of fresh air for me!

The middle story is a bit forgettable, but the other two more than make up for it. THIS is a Time War. 9/10.

{Spoiler} I thought of something about the various box sets Only The Monstrous Dealt with the psychological effects of war Infernal Devices deals with the technological advancements because of war I think that Agents Of Chaos is about the government and war And Casualties of War I think is going to be about loss during a war. Hopefully this was found interesting by someone. Thank you

"Who dares profane this temple?" "I think we can guess...." "By what authority do you come in here?!" "I don't need authority! I have a screwdriver."

Partially through Legion... And I'm wondering if when the Horned Ones turn up they'll be chanting "Exterminate". Or possible be Nimon, just for the sheer WTF factor.

Simply stupendous, a totally top-notch production and truly great stories. I don't know if I think it was better than the first one but I did find it even more engaging and intriguing and couldn't stop listening until the end once I started it.
Between John Hurt really owning the role here once again and the particularly brilliant writing, the whole idea of the War Doctor suddenly seemed to "click" for me like never before.
I thought Matt Fitton did an outstanding job with the complex task of painting a picture of the sort of Time War we might have been expecting but still furnished us with some remarkable surprises as well.
Also the complexity of Ollistra is an amazing feature of Infernal Devices, and devastating when performed so evocatively by Jacqueline. I was having QUITE the love-hate relationship with the Cardinal all throughout this, lol. Very well done!

First impressions -
I've listened to the first two stories so far and enjoyed them both, although 'Legion of the Lost' was a little slow moving. It seemed to me that too much time was taken with people standing around having long conversations.
'A Thing of Guile' is my favourite so far, with a lot more action and movement, and some pleasing things being done with the character of Ollistra.
With the next box-set being 7 months away, I'm going to try and wait a while before listening to 'The Neverwhen'. But it's not going to be easy ...

Ah, now we begin the descent. Clever, darker, and a little bitter. Touching on some of the more mysterious phrases uttered by 10 to describe the Time War.
And.......the Timelord tactics in that third episode... eesh. Yes, indeed. As has been said: That sounds like a "Time War"
After the first run through this, I am duly impressed. 9.5/10-10/10.
9.5/10?

BUT, one more point, which gets back to something I felt about the first set: he keeps calling himself "monstrous," and "a monster", but he hasn't really risen above anything any incarnation willing to call itself The Doctor has done.
For example, 7 cavalierly blew up Skaro in "Remembrance of the Daleks." Not a by-your-leave or a pause or a sorry. Just... '[eh, I've had enough so you can sod off.]' __________
Meanwhile, looking at Eps 2-3 in this release, the "monster" who is the War Doctor will use a device to cause a fleet of Daleks to kill themselves, but won't go along with Allistra's plan to wipe them all out by firing the dual-weaponry at Skaro?
I may need another listen, but my memory is that his first and central objection was that forcing control upon the minds of sentient beings is unconscionable, and therefore he would not go along with Alistra's plan. It was only later that he reasoned that this might cause problems for the web of time: presumably, what would happen if all timelines after the point at which the dual-weaponry was deployed on Skaro were altered, and therefore, every last thing he'd done in the last 200ish years undone; that plus every last act in the Time War undone simultaneously.
It seemed like it was the first reason, not the second, was primary. But I could have read it wrong....
(Perhaps it was a dash of self-preservation too: if Allistra picked a point before Genisis in the Dalek timeline, then he would be likely erasing his own history all the way back to The Sontaran Experiment......and he's more of a "space-time event" than all but perhaps Master/Rani/Monk, or more so than them to boot).
While the Time War continues to darken, I do await a somewhat unpleasant "War Doctor"; an actual "monster" that we cannot quite sympathize with....
But like I said...pretty much 9-9.5/10.
Top notch.

This. THIS is pretty much EXACTLY what I wanted when I learned we'd finally get to explore the Time War. The only story I can criticize is probably the middle story, which I found a bit dull. I loved the first and third stories - easily 10/10 stories!

I think it's a case of him THINKING he's a monster, thst he NEEDS to be a monster in order to abandon that "there must be another way!" Attitude he lived his other lives by. Look at him in the boat with Rejoice, he screams at her that he's a monster, and tries to prove it and promptly stops, the moment he thinks she hurt. It's like Clara telling him his bloody rampage will stop the first time he hears a crying baby in "Fear the Raven", he thinks he needs to be a monster, he behaves as if he's a monster but he isn't. People who know him well call him "Doctor", they don't agree with his abandonment of the name because they haven't seen him do anything that justifies it. I think Leela's reaction to him will be telling. She'll call him on anything she thinks us monstrous.

I've listened to Legion of the Lost and A Thing of Guile and I'm enjoying this box set a lot. As well as the obvious plus of having John Hurt in it, I'm also really enjoying the character of Ollistra.
I'm looking forward to listening to The Neverwhen either tomorrow or during the weekend.
