I definitely didn’t mean to make you upset and if you wish I won’t talk about that with and I wasn’t looking to bring it up against you if that’s how you feel. I am sorry that you feel this way and I will refrain from talking about. And again, this isn’t a matter of targeting you, I didn’t even realize I had talked about it while you were in the conversation. Apologies. It’s okay mate . My apologies for arguing back.I just dont want to read about the evil done by some evil people in my Church on a Forum i use for enjoyment. Forgive me for getting angry. No worries, I definitely remember that in general that isn’t the best example in most situations.

Just a short off topic- one reason I love this forum so much is the civilized way people treat each other. Even when there is an arguement, people apologize and talk. Such a breath of fresh air on the internets!

Such a breath of fresh air on the internets! Life is too short...I get angry I get frustrated but it’s my anger and my frustration. And apart from Negan in walking dead I wish no harm, speak no harm and do no harm(a lesson learned from Thomas More) am not quite there yet though😜 This is one of the best networks I have been on.Great bunch of people all with differing views but basically all with the same love

I always remember when i had a bad breakdown in 2010, like something had snapped inside me, i felt numb, broken like spiritually you left your body & feel emotionless, Big Finish Doctor Who got me through such a traumatic time allowing my imagination to flow & join the Doctor on his adventures, it actually helped to bring me back from a very dark scary place & I'll forever be grateful to Nick Briggs & all those who work at Big Finish as those stories made me feel once again.

I remember when nothing could get me through except trusting that the Big Man would see me through it despite what I was feeling. now am back to enjoying things again.prioritising what to keep what to let go of. Big Finish now is a joy to me and also having time to listen instead of an empty drone in the background.

Honestly, ditto. Storytelling is very powerful. Through nothing more than what might eventually be random scratchings on a page, you can make someone you've never known smile, laugh, even jump for joy. There is something almost inexplicably beautiful about fiction being able to mend reality. The whole run of stories with the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn, what eventually happens to their friendship and how they deal with that, will always be a very special thing to me. Something which impacts you so profoundly that it can only ever happen once and I'm glad it was with these characters. As the First Doctor said once -- "We learn about each other, so we learn about ourselves." Doctor Who is fundamentally a show about kindness. Kindness to others and to ourselves. I cannot think of a better legacy to have been left by everyone and anyone connected with this seemingly universal story of the Constitutive Other, the outsider who welcomes us in regardless, than to have repaired lives by telling the stories that they have. Good stories. Powerful stories. Bleak or hilarious. Adventuresome or tragical. In colour or monochrome. That, all of that, is something very special.

Loved the direction BF have taken with the Sixth Doctor, Evelyn had a calming influence on him i thought & maybe part of the reason he mellows, i agree the power of storytelling can be such a relaxing time were we switch off from the everyday hussle & bussle & expand our imagination across the universe.

If all Doctor Who was gone I.would be in horrible emotional shape.
First Doctor serials and latching on to something that not only predated Domestic violence but most of my horrible life was huge.
And although those early dv victim days involved podcasts and telly without Big Finish I would be in horrid shape indeed. If Bernice was still around I might be in not horrible shape but hard to say. Latching on to something pure and untainted from my childhood was so important and continues to be so important to my recovery its unreal. And my Twitter quasi friendship with Katy Manning is super important as is the fact that I have gotten responses from Una McCormack, Paul Cornell, and Lisa Bowerman when I have been moved by their work.
Katy is a treasure and has actually read a lot.of my tweets(including telling me she read a series of 20 some odd tweets on Iris helping me read again!) but the fact that I randomly get responses from Lisa and the like is huge.
And Scott Handcock's cheeky reply about stories with Missy...
I can't see myself plugging in quite as thoroughly if I wasn't able to experience Doctor Who in literally every single format. Sometimes I am so sick Big Finish is my only option. And part of the reason I love Benny so much is how she relates to Doctor Who and fights to define herself on her own terms.
She addresses this several times in New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield and it makes her story a little more vibrant. I feel she would have been mostly connected to the 90s books otherwise.
But she has travelled with the 7th extensively on audio and has had briefadventures with the 12th and 8th Doctor. Seeing someone who isn't ever pining for the Doctor and has such a real and wonderful life we can see why she enjoys travelling but will always come home is wonderful.
In some ways it gives more validity to the newer companions who don't just shelve their lives to travel(I really only understand it with Benny) but her story wouldn't be quite as fascinating if it wasn't also a story of someone having an amazing life without the Doctor. When you look at her whole story her travelling with the Doctor is less like "oh my goddess you're a crazy space wizard with a magic box!!" and more just a mate she decided to have fun travelling with. Which in turn also gives the Doctor a much more human dimension and makes him more relatable . He's her friend, not her escape.
aAnd that also gives its own boost to the Doctor as a whole. Benny is also humbling because when the Doctor gets an ego he knows not only does Benny have real reasons for not travelling with him but.... S/he also knows Benny sees the Doctor as a valued friend above all else.
How many times must the Doctor question their relationships in regards to them being a space wizard with all of time and space in their back pocket? With Benny(and perhaps a few others) S/he knows that s/he has intrinsic value as a person. And this is very important.

Well said. But there are other audio dramas that are equally enjoyable than Doctor Who and Doctor who related. So if they completely removed Doctor Who and you couldn’t get anymore and you couldn’t relisten to any who or who related.Where would you find Audio solace lol🤔

With Benny(and perhaps a few others) S/he knows that s/he has intrinsic value as a person. And this is very important. I really like that reading. Benny's definitely one of the series' best examinations of friendship. We had this enormous, mystical eldritch thing of a Seventh Doctor who wasn't really the best at understanding human emotions, yet she always managed to bring out a very warm and kindred side to him. It grew very organically from their first meeting on Heaven. Benny wanted to travel with him on her own terms and was able to keep to that even after she left the TARDIS. She was able to do three things: she held him to account, she treated him with respect and, most importantly, she understood him. And I think that's what he needed at that point in his lives. Benny was and is a very good friend to the Doctor.
