- What about that damn helicopter and the mysterious new colony leader Georgie?
- How prominent of a role will Negan have this season?
- A new nemesis makes an entrance - Alpha and the Whispers.
- With Angela Kang being the new executive producer, will she be able to improve or reputably maintain a show that seems to be in its twilight?
- Will there be a Season 10 of TWD?
The premiere episode A New Beginning will nearly be 90 minutes in length. Here's to hoping for a great season of TWD!

This show is a shadow of it's former self, the previous two seasons have felt very lacklustre despite a few gems here & there, sometimes you have to know when to stop but i suspect producers will continue milk this franchise for a few more seasons.
Karl death was completely wrong as they should have built him up take over from Rick & now Rick leaving kinda killed my interest in the show.

I felt it was tragic we lost Karl but it did work for me it was poignant moment not an all out war death but a bittersweet moment.Redeeming Karl from being another replica of his fathers journey the show has to work separately from the graphic novel. The show still works for me and there is nothing to stop it taking a breather and coming back stronger than ever

Except it wasn’t. It was only done to have an “omg this is so sad im shook” character death and in turn it felt so cheap, unearned and a kick in the teeth to the audience. I dont really keep up with twd theses days but yeah i feel what they did to Carl was s really bad decision.

Well I wasn’t expecting it i felt he might have joined Negan and his act of being bitten by helping others really worked for me.The simplicity of the act reminded us that just one bite can end you. As for walking dead i have said it before in another posting that the virus needs to mutate to enliven proceedings the zombies need a form of intelligence or speed or dexterity.

Well, I was glad when Carrrrrl died, but I didn't watch every episode of Season 8 as there was a lot of poor episodes that made me lose interest. Not sure how many episodes of the new season I will watch, but my son will probably have it on so I'll surely get to see some of it. The return of another TV programme tomorrow evening is more important for me at this moment in time though!

I hear all the negative talk/reviews about the last couple seasons (not just here, but from many other sources, including my friends), and when I do, I honestly feel like I've been a watching a different show than everyone else! Truly, I am not trying to argue the show's merits or lack thereof, nor am I trying to minimize anyone's opinions--clearly, I am in the minority here so there must be something to it. For me personally, I thought the last two seasons were as good as the show ever was! Carl's death doesn't have any impact on my opinion--I thought it made great drama! And whether it was for shock value or whatever, it worked for me.
Anyway, I'm not looking for explanations as to where the show apparently went wrong for everyone, because I've heard them all--believe me, I've discussed this WAY more than I probably should have with many friends, and have tried so hard to see it from all those standpoints. You know that you share the popular opinion, and I know that I don't, and I can't change either. I just have to say that it all escapes me. I don't understand it, try as I might!
All I can do is go on enjoying every moment until it ends--and I know with falling ratings, it may be sooner rather than later. Well, we know that everything ends, and many shows go out on a high note, rather than fizzle out--so, I'm not expecting a sudden burst of "OH MY GOD!! WALKING DEAD IS GREAT AGAIN!!!!" I see the writing on the wall too. I'll never get it, but I DO see it.

Would love to hear if any of the ones who have been disappointed in recent years watched and enjoyed the season premiere? It seemed to be a return to basics. I loved it, particularly all the walker action, the search for supplies, and the touching scene with Carol and Daryl on the porch. They may soon be the last two originals on the show, and this scene foreshadowed that,

It's a soap opera with zombies. My expectations for the show have never been particularly high, and I dont follow the comics, so I'm still entertained. I come for popcorn, I get popcorn.
That said, some observations from this week's premiere...
Why they hell didn't the savaging team just use the ropes to ease the canoe and plow over the side of the museum staircase? The only reason they moved anything over the glass floor after the wagon was so someone could fall through it. Also I don't see why Gregory would have taken a year and a half to pull a whisper campaign slash assassination attempt, other than politely holding out for an on-screen execution. So I feel there was some shoehorned tension in this this one.

Agreed! It is definitely a soap opera, and one of the reasons I love it. But aside from sitcoms, reality/game shows, sports, news, and the procedural episodic dramas, everything else is a soap. And the best TV!

However despite the strong opening, losing Rick will in my opinion have a negative impact on the show, i cannot forsee another character with leadership qualities that Rick has, this is why i thought killing Karl was a mistake.

Typical, three excellent episodes as series 9 a vast improvement on the previous two series & were losing Rick & Maggie.
Not happy.

Yay! Rick exits the show while not dying. The plan being that Lincoln is DONE with TWD main program, but he will continue to represent his Rick Grimes character in future adventures shown in the form of AMC TV movies (perhaps a trilogy). Scott Gimple (chief content officer for TWD and FTWD) also mentioned to expect additional forthcoming Walking Dead universe related "specials" with past and future characters along with new applications of digital content.
Lincoln on the Talking Dead show interestingly spoke about that he thought about leaving TWD during Season 8, but ultimately decided that he and the continuity of the program wasn't ready for that to prematurely happen. The mysterious helicopter, even last year, was always intended as an exit option to whisk off his character to be never seen on the main show again. The other explored option was for Rick to die while he bled out under the tree.
I have enjoyed the first 5 aired episodes of this season, and I think the new show runner Angela Kang has done an admirable job of keeping things fresh. Next up, we should be expecting to see Lauren Cohan do her (for the time being) swan song on the show.
