Don't blame the show makers, blame the agent for not demanding more. Well, in the end she did and the X-Files were cancelled again after the two season come-back...
But this is just an example- I would have the same problem at certain workplaces because it is expected for females to do the same work for less money (and I do not have an agent...). And the b*llsh*t argument that women get less money because they become pregnant and have kids has no pull with me either (I do not have children so far...), and what kind of point is that anyway? Children are the life blood of any society, and women go though pain and unwellness for them, so by all rights they should get MORE money, not less.
Oh well, don't get me started. Deep breath. Change of topic please.

Honestly, why care about ratings or AI? As long as they're high enough that the show doesn't get cancelled, why does it matter? Battlefield has the worst ratings of all of Doctor Who and I love it more than End of Time, which got spectacular ratings. While normally I wouldn't care much either, you have to remember the context: on top of the steady decline during Capaldi's time, and that these numbers are happening in a post Netflix-era, 'that side' spent months shrieking about how Jodie would die in the ratings, the show would be liked by no one and it'd be 1989 all over again. Now that twice in a row they've been proven that no, there is an interest in Jodie, the goal posts are changing to 'oh well, it's just hype, it's just hype, it'll crash next week (and if Rosa, airing right in the middle of Black History Month, holds or even grows just a smidge) they'll keep kicking it down the road.
You know it's struck where now people are claiming that the figures are the British AND American ratings combined. So, none of them know how BARB works...
Oh, I’m definitely happy Jodie’s doing well and the haters have been proven wrong about it killing the show. It was the nitpicking about AIs and talk about how the ratings could drop again (here and elsewhere) that prompted my post. That and people blasting the Capaldi era (my favorite of the whole new series) and using ratings to make their point.

Wow, my jokes don't seem to land so much over the internet... I'm glad my comment sparked some interesting conversation, but by "PC-ness" I was rather childishly attempting a double-entendre?
Which is immature, yes. But I believe the "anti-female Doctor" position is just immature to begin with, and deserves, at minimum, to be mercilessly mocked. I saw another comment from someone on here that their dad watched the last two episodes and complained there was "too much diversity"? What does that even mean? Too many real human beings on screen?
I don't want to disrespect individuals, especially their fathers, but these mindsets are - in a word - stupid. They don't deserve the courtesy of my respect. If people can't grow up and accept that other human beings - including women, gosh! - are actually human beings who deserve representation in the media, why is it my responsibility to pretend these fools are worthy of my respect?
The idea that "all candidates are worth considering" and "all speech should be given a platform" is exactly the kind of stupidity that gives a platform to racist, rapist reality TV stars who then sweep into the Oval Office, directly controlling nuclear bombs and climate change initiatives.
All opinions aren't created equal, all opinions are not worthy of being respected or being heard, and I'm exhausted of being told that my disrespect for people unworthy of respect is the problem. It seems like we look at the Trumps of the world, we don't know what to do about them, we know we can't reason with them, so we turn our attention to censuring those who understand the value of censorship - and so those who have thoughts worth sharing are silenced, and those who waste oxygen on destructive ideas continue, unimpeded. I dunno... It's just exhausting. Trying to be tolerant of the intolerant. Exhausting.

But I believe the "anti-female Doctor" position is just immature to begin with, and deserves, at minimum, to be mercilessly mocked. I'm sure it's probably innocent enough for some people to prefer the (heretofore) traditional male in the role the same as I might prefer sneakers over sandals or soup over salad. Others (probably the ones you're referring to) do sound like they're being immature about it, I guess maybe not as much for the preferences they may have but certainly for a lot of the comments they make? Sadly, not everyone may have the incredibly good fortune to belong to a forum committed to civilized discussion about the general subject, where you can read some of the mature and thoughtful comments from others and allow positive influences to assist you in shaping a more rewarding perspective of your own. I know I was being terribly immature about the idea at first but I'm really glad you all helped me to get over that (as evidenced by these before-and-after photos).

Oh dont worry about offending my father hes an arsehole 😂 I do emphasise it is exhausting dealing with people like the #notmydoctors and bowlstrek and Dave Cullen...and whilst i dont think every person whos has apprehensions about a female doctor is immature, i do feel a lot of the problems are more personal and different for every person (and then theres a large portion who are mysogynistic and sexist and before anyone says it, no you dont have to be a man to be sexist or a mysogynist...do research 😂) but yeah it is hard but we gotta do it. Just gotta hope mine and future generations end up being more tolerent and shaping a better future than we have right now.

But, can't you accept that some fans think that casting a female as the Doctor is wrong? Everyone is allowed an opinion. #NotMyDoctor isn't sexist, or misogynistic. You also used the work, tolerant (which is a word I have never liked). Tolerant (adjective) - showing willingness to allow the existence of opinions or behaviour that one does not necessarily agree with. Do you have a willingness to allow those that don't want a female Doctor to have their opinion?

Do you have a willingness to allow those that don't want a female Doctor to have their opinion? I think it always depends on the behaviour and the reasons one gives for their choice. I am totally cool with people saying they flat out do not like Jody Whittaker or the female doctor because it is not to their taste (I mean, I am NOT a fan of the 10th Doctor, but I am cool with people who are). What I hate are people who rant and rave on social media and forums, spitting toxin everywhere. People who treat a stupid TV show as some kind of pseudo- religion and have to wage a holy crusade in the name of what they believe is their holy scriptum. Or people using these things to push their own beliefs (both liberal and racist/ misogynic) onto others and making every online discussion into a political debate. Sorry, but I do not have any tolerance towards people like that.
To a lesser extent also to people who always, whatever the Doctor Who news, post as their very first reaction "Bring back Tennant!" (please DON'T)
On the other hand, I love to chat to people having differing opinions and views on things when it happens in a civilised and mature manner, sometimes you learn new things and have your eyes opened.

Tolerance doesn't have a behavioural scale. You have to tolerate all behaviour.

Tolerance doesn't have a behavioural scale. You have to tolerate all behaviour. Ain't that the truth. But some behaviours I tolerate longer than others.
I will become very vocal speaking out if people are treated unfairly or discriminating or if there are morally/ ethically questionable decisions at work.
And my friends and collegues value me for it.
Never mix up tolerance with silent acceptence and resignation.

As mentioned i dont agree that every single reason is moronic as thats not true. Most people on this forum who disliked or do still dislike the idea of a female doctor arent immature about it. They have valid reasons, or just emotional responces even and i respect that, not everything has to be logical. However its clear to tell when someones being sexist and someomes reasonable, both in their manner and response. Bowlstrek for example, i would say is a mysogynist. His idea that the bbc are pushing an agender to upthrow white men is ridicluous. 7 million people watching a show in a world of 7.5 billion is not going to change anything. Sure its left leaning but then id argue doctor who always has been. The fact is in many of his videos he says WRONG to any other opinion and thats intollerance. end of the day ill “tollerate” someones opinion if they “tollerate” mine. But If they dont “tollerate” my opinion then i wont tollerate theirs and ill call them a mysogynist just the same as theyll call me an SJW. I think thats a fair trade no?
