What did you purchase this year thinking you would not enjoy but ended up loving?
For me it was CounterMeasures old and new.
2nd and First Doctor early adventures and companion Chronicles in fact 2nd Doctor ones are now very firm favourites. And now in last week have added Pathfinder legends.

"Tales from New Earth" A lot of doubts about this one on the forum, people were basing their opinions on the trailer, which seemed to give the impression it was all narration, this proved to be unfounded, there were actually 17 cast members and it was brilliant!!
"The Martian Invasion of Earth" Nic Briggs adaptation was far better than i anticipated,i really enjoyed this one!
"The Diary of River Song Series 03"All these Boxsets have been excellent, but this one was head and shoulders above the rest!
"Blake's 7: The Way Ahead (40th Anniversary Special)" This was brilliant and gripping from start to finish!!!!

That is a tough question for me as I have come to expect certain things from a Big Finish Production and they almost always deliver but if I must chose it probably either be Callan or Star Cops. ATA Girl is right up there as well. Oh and Jenny: The Doctor's Daughter was an absolute joy. I was also amazed for the second year in a row how much I enjoyed the original 5th Doctor TARDIS team being together again.

I figured they'd be good but I'm still a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed Star Cops, Pathfinder Legends, and Jeremiah Bourne especially.

Gallifrey: Time War.
I've not really loved Gallifrey since the box set era started and this, while still a different beast to the early years, was the best thing to bear the name in years.

Definitely Vienna Retribution and The 11th Doctor Chronicles. Both I bought on an absolute whim, I went in with zero expectations and I enjoyed both very much. Both are really entertaining and very well done (writing, performance and sound design) for what they are.
I also gave the 7th Doctor another chance and enjoyed some of his stories very much (Life 34, Red and Night Thoughts especially).
As a negative example, prime contenter would be the War Master, which literally left me cold (inside). It is just too good at what it does, I am afraid.

I expected Dumb Waiter to be good but it was fantastic.
Also I think I listened to Quicksilver this year??? Which also fits that description.
Then there's Iron Bright which I thought would feel like filler between Nomad & Hour but was actually great. (Although the buzz on here made that less of a surprise).

It's probably the range I enjoy least. I've never really taken to it, but I loved the Time War boxset. ATA Girl was a surprise. It was just so good. And Callan. I knew nothing about the original show, and I loved this release so much.

I haven’t done it yet as i was getting kind of bored with the Time War stories but i will now re add it to the list

The Tony & Cassandra MysteriesWhat joy to get a box set of these two wonderful characters, and also a commitment to another 2 that will develop and complete their journey together. The dark Shadows range is probably among my favourite ranges and its spin off is great entertainment.

Pathfinder is such a break from the usual great bunch of characters to get lost in their adventures with i honestly thought i would be bored by the end of the first series but ended up purchasing more

I admit I only have a couple of the Vienna releases and I only bought them because Chase Masterson was such a sweet and nice person on last years convention.
She had never before appeared on my radar, but this got me curious in her audios. I am quite surprised that Vienna Retribution was not a bigger success for people on this forum, and hardly anybody talked about it or wrote in the accompaning thread.
I thought it was a fantastic action romp, even if you (like me) did not know the previous releases. It is very well done.
But maybe it is not deep or philosophical or adult enough for some people on here? Who knows.
It is 3 hours long and I listened to it in one go, I enjoyed it that much.
And the 11th Doctor chronicles- they are as good as everyone says. You do not even need to be a fan of the 11th Doctor.

So many audio dramas, so little time and money...

I just ordered the three series and memory box-nothing to lose. Am always willing to expand my range and help feed a hungry actress 😂
