This is all well and good, but I’d much rather see more women writing for regular ranges and box sets more often, rather than having one big all-female produced release. Sort of makes women look like a genre, so I hope Big Finish are doing much more than just this to sort out their lack of women writers.

I agree that some fresh blood is always good to shake things up.
This brings me to the question- how many female writers are there for Big Finish at the moment? And why are there not more of them? Is it that Big Finish does not want them (I do not believe that) or that there are just fewer female Who writers out there who also would like to write for Big Finish? I know only a few female writers who have written for Doctor Who (Books, TV and Big Finish) before, but they are only a handful and always seem to be the same few names.

This topic was pretty much answered by a BF writer/director a few weeks ago.. They ask.. Not everyone can accept for a variety of reasons.

(Please read carefully before starting up the outrage bus )
As cwm commented above, this looks to be a significant set for the first appearance of the Paternosters (I hope: no Strax and it doesn't count, human scum ) and the first use of the Capaldi era with Osgood*2 (and I am definitely an Osgood fan - someone who gives her laptops names is a proper geek!)
But overall it seems to me like an artificial release in a way that the magnificent 'ATA Girl' (released very near if not actually on IWD 2018) was a wholly natural release which grew from its own story and is in my top BF highlights list and a strong contender for 'best BF of 2018'. (I know, all releases are artificial, but some are created more artificial than others.)
BF celebrate and create fabulous female characters all the time (wonderful Evelyn, brilliant Benny, Constance, Flip, DI Menzies, Charley, etc.) and if BF want to (as they should) have more female writers/directors, well there are four stories available in most box sets and a MR release every month... (more from Una McCormack would be a great start imo - 'Red Planets' was head and shoulders above the others in the current Seven trilogy and probably the best Seven story for years.) And now that J&L sadly can be no more and Dorian has moved on, every BF spin-off or original series except 'The War Master' is female-led and what fabulous series most of them are. And Missy is coming soon!
I know BF are a commercial enterprise and no doubt this set (3/4 New Who and look at the cover - Ace and Leela are practically shrunk to microdots) is presumably hoping to attract people who have discovered TV DW because of Jodie's Doctor, but I would have preferred an original drama series or a special single-character-led set rather than a pick-'n-mix of characters who (apart from the Paternosters) already have their own strong series for which I'm pre-ordered to the point of insolvency. (And if anyone thinks I'm a bit miffed we didn't get 'ATA Girl II' for which I was not-so-secretly hoping despite what we'd been told, well, you're right! What happened to Daphne and Susan? We have a right to know!)
(Do I expect to be pre-ordering? Sigh, yes of course.)

But I guess it will be much better soon when all the newly raised NuWho fangirls come of age and it is now fashionable to write for the series as a female.
I expect a huge influx of amazing new talent in the next few years.

I'm sure they are behind the scenes... and fingers crossed that some of these writers are picked up for the main range and beyond. Lisa McMullin has also written on the (soon to be released) Survivors 8, Lizzie Hopley on Torchwood and Dark Shadows - as far as I can see Gemma Langford is new to BF, as is Sarah Grochala (though the latter is a well-established playwright).

I agree with you in general. And you are right, it is artificial- although you could say that for many of the recent box sets and pre-orders. However, I am confident that we get some cracking new stories.
I also did not pre-order this because it is female themed, but because I love the characters and would like to hear more stories with them (completely independent from them being female).
I have not listened to ATA girl (yet) but I agree with you that Red Planets was great!

Well said. I too expect the stories will be great because BF almost always are!
I recommend 'ATA Girl' most highly - breath-taking and sometimes heart-breaking drama. It's (obviously) set during WWII but it's a story about people during wartime, not a story about the war. (If that makes sense.)

clearly they can now use the Paternosters together rather than just individually, The issue was stated wasn't it to be that they can use all three but not all three at the same time.

Sontar HA "Boys"
Regards mark687 I loved everything about this set already, but this... With Nick directing Neve on Thursday, do you think it's possible that while they have her in (presumably recording this at the same time) that they're also recording a Paternoster box set to be announced at Big Finish Day... After all, with everything that's been announced lately, they've got to be saving some pretty special stuff for Saturday!

BIG YAY for more female writers and behind the scenes people but
While I hate to be a typical man and give hate ... It feels like we’ve been there and done that with “The Woman Who Saved the Doctor” and the “Woman who lived” book like wow how original and while it’s great to have this boxset and yes most of us will buy it I’d have liked more if they had announced it before the Legacy of Time as they’ve kinda already make us excited for Kate,Osgood,River and Benny meeting.
Maybe it should have had a few “first” like people who haven’t been on audio before or maybe even have Jodie record a few lines
It just feels been there done that I’m not that excited

And they don't have the rights to use Jodie, so that was never going to happen.

It can only be helpful that BF are developing new relationships with women writers through this, as well as the other avenues they are pursuing, and I'm very hopeful it will lead to them being more successful in getting more women to write for all their ranges.

It’s a great idea, but they’ve left out so many wonderful characters like romana, charley, iris and Yvonne.
Big Finish easily could have done this in the mould if worlds of big finish.
None the less I look forward to it’s release.

I haven't had my morning coffee yet - what is "the 8th of March" a reference to? It’s international women’s day. Men then get the other 364 is that right?😜

In twenty years, we've only had a handful of stories with Ace and Benny (less if you don't count the novel adaptations) so it's cool to get another one.
But the most interesting thing to me is the two Osgood story. Especially because it's called Narcissus, so it's hopefully going to deal with the two Osgoods in a direct way. I hope it's set after Day of the Doctor when they're still getting used to the whole thing, rather than after The Zygon Inva/ersion. It's a cool concept (in fact, the whole Zygon refugee thing is) that deserves a little extra exploration.
EDIT: I thought of a way to make the Paternoster story more exciting to me - Lisa Bowerman as Ellie!

Im not talking about here as everyone id say on here is respectful and reasonable but its sad to see here and there people saying why arent they doing an all men boxset and how they prefer the story being put forward first.
How annoying
Anyhow very excited for this set especially the paternoster gang story and post day of the doctor osgood is what ive been waiting for since we started getting unit storys
