There's always the possibility they didn't want to detract from the initial announcement of the all-female line-up by including a "the entire Paternoster Gang is in it" sort of thing. If you look back through the thread, mark687 linked to something that probably gives a good indication as to whether or not Strax is involved in this release (for people who don't wish to know, they can avoid his Spoiler post, but for those who do want to know conclusive proof of his inclusion/exclusion it is almost certainly contained in that Spoiler ). I was thinking that same thing because the news article did actually seem to boast that the Paternoster Gang would be appearing, and that maybe they weren't being overt about it because the wanted to focus more on the theme as you suggest. I'm guessing the limitations to the use of the Paternoster characters as described by bobod must have been relaxed since they were stated? I also remember that being said that they couldn't all appear together, but my memory's not as clear regarding any changes that may have happened after that. Maybe the full Paternoster Gang rights finally came along with the rights to the 12th Doctor characters?

(Ought this box set really star the most formidable and awesome characters? I'm pretty sure that Polly or Victoria fighting off Cybermen and weed creatures work as better role models than, say, Leela, who kills a hundred monsters before breakfast). I do not think it is serving as a role model vehicle but rather celebration of female characters...The Doctor lies and he ain’t no role model🤪

Sometimes it is just great to hang out with naughty characters like River... who is very far from a good role model. And some who make good role models... might just not be very fun to hang out with.... and to be honest.... River and Benny just have more pull with me than Polly (who I have not met yet since I am not so far into my classic) or Victoria (which I know from only a couple of stories....)
I am on the fence with Leela. Maybe I just do not like noble savage Amazon warriors very much... too cliche and she sometimes comes across as The Doctor's "Friday". But maybe I just have heard too many stories with her recently.

But anyway, this is an interesting idea for a release. There was a post a ways up expressing some concern that this feels like a gimmicky 'the female range' approach, but I don't think I agree. I think this should be viewed as both a celebration and a sort of audition that's only available to the ladies. If that means a future diversification of the writer pool operating across all of Big Finish, that can only be a good thing. Don't get me wrong, Big Finish has a ton of brilliant writers already, who are regularly turning out excellent work. But while filet mignon is delicious and excellent, sometimes I want something else to eat instead. Change is good. edit; sorry tuigirl, the tone I opened with in this post was not snarkily directed at you, you just happened to post while I was writing. The "but anyway" was me trying to steer back on topic after my previous post above

And you could argue along the lines of "gimmicky fan pleasing" release/ desperate scraping the bottom with a lot of the recent releases (and some people have done so). But in my opinion, most of these "desperate attempts" turned out to be surprise hits and quite awesome in their own right.
Change is good. Experimental is good. I LOVE experimental and weird stories- we could need a few more of these!

And it would take quite a bit more to upset me, believe me. (you would be up against the world champions at my workplace....)

And has anyone ever accused the vast, vast majority of releases which are written, directed, produced, starring, scored and catered by men of being a gimmicky 'male range'?
No need to rehash the stats but it would takes years of nothing but releases by women to come close to any sort of parity.

Moving swiftly back to the subject..and to a lot of wishful thinking on my part.
While I am looking forward to seeing how the writers intend to celebrate International Women's Day and the significance of the 8th of March to the story, part of me would also love to see a Short Trips styled anthology next year. One that focused on some of the other women who've passed briefly through those police box doors during the past fifty five years and whose lives weren't changed by the Doctor.. but by their experiences during their time with the Doctor. How do you deal with daily life after someone has opened the door for you to all of Time and Space?
And while we're at it.. wouldn't it be something to hear again from the entity at the heart of a type 40, who for the briefest of moments in almost three quarters of a millennium found her voice? Imagine the tales she could tell...
*sigh* It's moments like this where I curse having an overactive imagination and an inability to write a decent story..☹️

That would be amazing. I wonder why this is not done more often? Maybe something in the style of the "Tardis diary" or Tardis logbook".

The Diary of a Type 40..narrated by Suranne Jones (hat tip to Digi for the choice of narrator) Just imagine..the Doctor's adventures from the perspective of the Tardis. From the moment she stole an old man and his granddaughter and took them where they didn't exactly want to go but most definitely needed to go..through all the waifs and strays the Doctor insisted on picking up along the years (much to her annoyance)..to the moment the grey haired man with a Scottish accent became a blond haired woman with a Yorkshire accent and the Tardis threw her out..literally. Hmmm..I wonder how I claim copyright on a wishful thought? 🤔😉
