Crazy 7-8 days- not negative crazy- just flat out busy . Tomorrow night there are 2 international metal bands playing in Adelaide (1 from UK the other from USA)- the typical clash on the same night..(so the promoters get $hitty when the crowds aren't huge- PLAN AHEAD..) I wanted to go, however tickets are over $100 and my funds have been diverted to other more important things.. Get a random email from the venue 1 of the bands is playing at- "enter to win a ticket"... I had a funny feeling when it popped up in my inbox at lunchtime- I am on the mailing list so it's legit. BOOM- 10 mins ago .. I won 2 tickets.. Just messaged my twin brother "get an early night tonight- it's going to be a late one tomorrow night". WOO HOO

At the moment, my animals are what keep me going. Be it my colorful and tame betta fish or my ant colonies which I have re-awakened after the winter break 10 days ago. I also got a large new beautiful new nest for my harvester ants. I offered it to them, and they moved in after just one day. They love it. And I do not get tired watching these beautiful animals. Just look at my glorious queen and the massive granary they have collected (they eat seed).
And no, they cannot hurt me, they do not have a stinger and their jaws are made to crush seed, not flesh. And the soldiers are beautiful with their red heads.

That's pretty cool. Sadly I can not have pets where I live.
Right now its family and good food keeping me going... well that and needing money in general. lol

Solar eclipse made my day. Even though it was partial (87%) it was still pretty impressive.

Solar eclipse made my day. Even though it was partial (87%) it was still pretty impressive. Glad you had a good view! I watched online. Great coverage and much better pictures than 2017 when only one camera from coast to coast seemed to be clear, in focus and remembered to TAKE THE FILTER OFF AT TOTALITY!!
I've been in the path of totality twice, once with very thick cloud cover (and a most dramatic darkness as a result) and once in clear skies and oh wow, what a phenomenal sight that was. Genuinely one of the most memorable moments of my life.
(For Europeans, we have two total eclipses coming to Spain in 2026 and 2027... so anyone on this side of the Atlantic who thinks they might like to see one 'live' on an easy trip from home, this is the time!)

I am stoked- I got permission today to travel to the biggest pet and pet product exhibition in the World, the Interzoo 2024 in Nuremberg. This is 1h drive from where I live. This exhibition is not for the general public, it is reserved only for professionals in the field (pet shops, vets, food producers....). I asked the marketing department if I could get a permission from my company to go there and do some recon and market analysis. I think it should be very interesting to see all the latest crazes and trends. I am really excited. Only one other person (one of the marketing team) is going from my company, and none of the many vets. I was the only one who actually asked. Apparently, nobody else is interested. I am still paying myself, though, because at the current climate I am not going to ask my superior if the company would pay for the ticket. Dangerous waters. Might be told again that I was wasting time and effort. Well, I am going, it is only 30 Euro to spend the whole day there (beginning of May) and I am very excited and I actually think it might be really useful for a veterinarian of a veterinary laboratory to learn about the latest crazes and hypes in the pet world. Sure, I will first and foremost look at the exotics animals (fish, birds, invertebrates...) and probably will keep away from all the horsey stuff, and I am just MASSIVELY interested in the whole thing (and I just LOVE walking through exhibitions and chatting about crazy new ideas)- and this will be totally for my own personal entertainment. But I will also try and get as many flyers and leaflets as possible and take many pictures and share at the company.

Over here you can if it's proven to be professionally work related- you can even claim petrol and kilometres driven too.

Possibly. I could try. Good suggestion. I will keep the receipts.
Yes, petrol money I already get.
Big SIGH.

Lucky you to have seen a total eclipse twice. I don't know if I'll ever get to see one in the US. Maybe I'll have to go to Spain.

I only saw one - the other time I 'experienced' total eclipse but the sun was already "eclipsed" by very thick cloud! Still, the final plunge into darkness was spectacular.

Yeah, a couple of my friends traveled to see the totality for this eclipse. One couple I'm friends with apparently spent an "eclipse weekend" with friends and only saw total darkness, but they partied all weekend so it wasn't a lost cause. The other friend also had a cloudy day where she went, but she was able to see the partly eclipse sun faintly through the clouds. Don't think she saw the full eclipse, except for the darkness. The next time there's scheduled to be a total eclipse in the North America, I'll be old Hopefully still around, so there's still hope, but I'm not banking on it.
