Holy Moly..! It's just been put in as of this morning, 10% wage increase for my wife starting from Christmas- then a further 5% December 2025, thanks to the Aust Govt finally pulling their feet out their veritable butts! I believe she has now overtaken me when it comes to $ P/Hour wage for the 1st time ! I love it ! And she has X 1 University Bachelors Teaching degree plus 3 other teaching specialties for adults and Special Needs children.

Hopefully this isn't getting too political....
Well, I don't exactly have a lot of disposable income, so with the news at the end of July, I donated a little bit, and thought I'd hold off on picking up some merch until August (or, rather, until the start of my credit card's next billing cycle, which was... yesterday). I'd intended to pick up some campaign buttons and a sweatshirt.
Aesthetically, it's all rather ugly. The 2020 primary saw some cooler designs. But, oddly, all of the stuff that was available last month is now gone -- I might be tempted to say it's because of the Waltz announcement, but the campaign store's still got sweatshirts from 2020 (I think?) listed, so who knows.
It's definitely kinda weird just how... bland everything so. So little color. It's kinda depressing.
EDIT: just to clarify, I chose this thread to post this because it's not really about the politics, just the weirdness with the merch.

For me, as a German, the weirdest thing here is that you guys have merch at all. To be honest, apart from the MAGA hat, I have not seen any other. What a weird concept.
I just try to imagine if that would happen over here. People already think I am very weird for collecting autographs, even of politicians (as an inside joke, there is an autograph of Angela Merkel above my desk at work. I am not into the conservative Christian party, it was more a joke that in our previous German dictatorships, the picture of the leader was shown in every office. Sadly, our new leader is so devoid of any charisma, he would just appear as a blank space on the wall).

Ugh, yesterday was a bit of a nightmare.
Started off the day with a long, boring shift at work where it felt like my life force has been draining away.
During that, my hand caught my cordless charger, knocking it to the floor and breaking it.
I then found about $300 that I had completely forgotten about, which was about the only good thing to happen.
My roommate came back after a week out, and I caught up with him for a bit. Which is when he completely pulled the rug out from under my feet and basically said I’ll need to rehome my cat next year as we prep the house we’re in for selling it. This actually broke my heart.
Later, I went to try an unwind with the 5 Doctors and decided to see what deals could be had on the Nintendo eshop. I found a nice new port of Doom 1&2 and pulled out my switch to buy it. Only to find my screen had cracked at some point during the day. So now I need to replace that as well.
Just one thing after another.

Any chance of you moving beforehand?

Unfortunately all of our names are on the house so I’m tied up in it until the house sells. I have a tentative plan to have my sister look after him until I’m at a new place, and I can try to push back the rehoming until the last minute. He’s a sweet cat, and even knowing I’ll get him back not having him around is heart breaking.

I just try to imagine if that would happen over here. Yeah, we're all about cults of celebrity over here. Personally I mostly just view it as an excuse to donate a bit more than I would otherwise because I actually get something in return. That kind of... means something, or at least means more than nothing since I live in a deeply conservative state, where my votes are effectively meaningless -- 'round here, we only elect the very worst people to office. It's mostly just campaigning gear -- shirts, pins, bumper stickers, yard signs. Just a way to publicly demonstrate one's support of a political party.

It's mostly just campaigning gear -- shirts, pins, bumper stickers, yard signs. Just a way to publicly demonstrate one's support of a political party. In Germany, political parties are funded by public money. Tax payer money. So I pay for them to set up for election and do their job. I do not deem it necessary to give them any more money. And the only party I am in favor of at the moment (because they appear the last sane party left) made 2% in the last election. One guy at work is member and he always brings supporter forms in (they need a certain amount of signatures / supporters to be even allowed to run for election) so I always sign any of these forms. Still, I would not wear a hat or a pin of these guys.
And the time of my youth is past when my dad brought me to the Labour / Union rallies and we kids got a red flag each with the words "Wave it about vigorously, comrades!"

Sounds like a sane and rational way of doing things.
Our whole election process over here is... it's a hot mess. I don't think 5e res a single solitary aspect of it that functions well. Imagine y'all also don't have to deal with a deluge of political advertisements absolutely everywhere, either.
Though oddly enough I do remember seeing an odd number of American political ads over in Cork, back in 2020.

<Australian Politics enters the conversation LOLZ> We just have boring Accountants/Economists who can't "read the room" and think that earning under $200K per year means you are poor.. We have an election that is coming up, hasn't been announced but it will within the next few months.
What they do here is absolutely plaster every single power line on every road with political posters- it's illegal to deface/remove them during the election time period. Plus we get so many waste-of-paper leaflet drops in our letter boxes and PO Boxes (ironically most are from the Greens party which here is party that primarily focuses on the environment).
It's "interesting" on the day of voting, as here it's the law you have to be registered- all you have to do legally is go up to the polling booth and get your name crossed off the list and walk out- the walk in (they are always held at Public School gymnasiums, churches and other publicly funded places) is fraught with "danger" because it's like the old cliche of the Hare Krishna's (sp?) in the 70's harassing you at airports to join their religion- all parties passive aggressively try and pass you all their pamphlet info- I don't react well to that, people trying to shove things in my hands/face- they get told "appropriately".

The Big Finish controversies thread being locked. Some people who have been impacted by the transphobic comments have now been basically silenced. Not a good look divergent universe.

Were any posts deleted? From what's there, now, it looks like things were getting a little heated, but not enough to warrant locking the thread. Especially without explanation.

That's more understandable, then. Though in general I think it's good form for moderators to post something saying why they're locking a thread when they do so, even if it's just a temporary thing to give folks time to cool off.
If folks aren't given an explanation, they'll have to invent their own, and imagined scenarios always tend to be a bit more colorful than real ones.
I am, in most cases, a big proponent of transparency.

No posts were deleted and a few were over the line in terms of civility, so the thread was locked to provide a cooling off period. There was no intention to silence any voices, just to cool down what was becoming a very heated discussion.

We are all volunteers with other things in our lives beyond monitoring the forum 24-7.

Things have been, and will continue to be quite hectic here.
Harper and I went and moved Evan out of his Philadephia apartment last weekend. It was another disgustingly hot day. We were able to fit all of his things in our two cars, then go to my grand-niece's 1st birthday party in Delaware, and then drive the 2 hours home in torrential rain. It was exhausting. We had the week to get Evan ready for school. I have no idea if we, in fact, have done that.
On Friday the drain pipe that carries waste water form our kitchen sink and dishwasher to the sewer burst. So I have not been able to use my kitchen sink since Friday. Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow.
This morning I woke up extremely and disgustingly early to take both my kids to the airport before my 12 hour work day. They flew up to Maine to see their grandmother, and their father is heading there on Saturday. They fly back on Friday, and then on Saturday I fly with Evan to LA to bring him to his new school. It will be quite an emotional trip for me.
I will get back on Wednesday, and then I leave for LI Who that Friday.
Whew! It's a lot.
