This is the reason why I currently mainly using it for my animal groups and to look at pictures of animals. Not even looking at my feed anymore.
And am radical in defriending toxic people.
I am also not a fan of people only going online to share obsessively tired old memes.
Or people who want to convince me of some kind of radical view or another.
Some people like to use FB as a "public diary" then complain when they get "feedback".. I see that all the time.
I try to post things that firstly make Me laugh/happy - then you get the serious posts about life stuff.
This is also where I get a lot of news from all my life hobbies, interacting particularly with musicians etc I admire. Last week I had a very brief chat with Juliet Landau - possibly 1 of The best female centric tv shows ever was Buffy.
I also try not to take on everyone's emotional baggage etc.
The best part of FB is also the worst part of FB

Yeah I gave it up years ago, when old friends suddenly revealed themselves to be toxic & bigoted.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I’m much the same: Facebook is where I keep up with family and friends, other social media is where I get my geek on and talk about the stuff that really interests me.

It's possible that there will be a reasonable display of the aurora this evening/night starting at dusk for us in Europe and continuing on through the night across the Americas.
Please note the word possible. At present the best forecasts suggest a medium display, good in Scotland/northern Germany/northern US & Canada etc. but not so amazing further south. But they said that about the one in May... so, if you have a view north after dark, could be worth taking a look.
In Europe a great site to check is
Basically, if the bars on the graph turn red, the show could be on!
UPDATE 20:10 : This is looking like the falsest of false alarms as far as Europe goes! Oh well, can't win 'em all, the solar 'pulse' may be better timed for the Americas later.
UPDATE October 6th : Pah! Nothing, anywhere.

Just back from the induction shift for my new job. I haven't worked since Feb 2016 and I finished my uni studies in Sept 2021, so I was incredibly nervous about it. I got the job offer just a couple of days after my three year anniversary of completing uni, so I'd very much gotten used to my life of... well, not a lot going on. Having employment show up out of nowhere, especially since they'd already sent me a rejection email, was beyond unexpected and, to be completely honest, not entirely welcome. With the induction out of the way though, I'm feeling really positive about things! The job's nothing to do with my degree; it's just a general retail job. All the people I met today were so warm and welcoming, and I'm finding myself genuinely looking forward to my first proper shift, something I was not feeling even yesterday. I'm still a bit nervous about getting back into the swing of things in terms of having a roster and such (my last set of uni classes were mostly online and pre-recorded, so there wasn't a schedule I had to keep to), but I'm actually feeling confident about it as well now A bit late I know, but I hope it’s going well for you. 🙂

So I had some lifechanging things happen last night. Good, exciting, massively lift changing. But I can't really talk about the details yet. But yeah, made my day. That's an understatement. Intrigued. Very intrigued. Very, very intrigued… Looking forward to when you can talk about the details. ”Massively life changing?” Very, very, very intrigued…..😉

Celebrated 40 years with my honey on Monday. Hot tip: If you go out to dinner and tell your server it's your 40th anniversary, she might offer you a complimentary champagne toast. An extremely belated ‘Congratulations!’ 🥂🍾🎊😊

Well, I am back in the rain and cold in Germany… Extremely late to this, but knowing what your scuba diving holidays mean to you I’m so sorry to read the fates conspired against you. Hopefully the car repair will either have been (or will be) affordable or you’ll find a newer car on the market, and hopefully you’ll have that holiday next year. 🙂

Well, I try to see the whole event as something "not personal". Would be easy to think that some mystical force or the fates conspired against me, but by all likelihood it was just a situation that could have happened to anybody coupled with an old car. I also do not think I could take on the universe, if it had conspired against me for whatever reason.
But yeah, I was very annoyed and very disappointed, I had really needed a time-off at a different place to get away from it all, and mentally, I can really feel how much this is now missing.
This has put another dent in my mental well-being for sure.
I have to save money now, the whole affair will be very expensive, no matter if I pay for an expensive repair or a new car.
But hopefully, I can have a holiday next year.
And if not that, then the year after.

I was going to update you all once I'd started actually working, as I haven't had any shifts since the induction one yet (and don't have lined up for next week either). But things should start picking up the week after that

Fair enough on my fates comment (you’re right of course, it could have happened to anyone), though I will point out that when you broke down on an epic car journey it was in a Swiss village with an entry in the UNESCO World Heritage listings. When I broke down on an epic car journey this summer (sadly not epic for the scenery but the number of traffic bollards) it was on the hard shoulder of a major A road reduced to single lane traffic. I’m sure the heat from my face could have heated a thousand homes…😳

Today I officially earned my "7 years" at my work.. That means by Law I automatically have accrued 8 full weeks of Annual Leave which sits there until I either quit/get fired.. Then at 10 years it increases to 13 weeks of Annual Leave banked. WOO HOO.

My car that broke down in Switzerland has arrived in my garage in Germany. Bad news- it is totaled. It would be a hassle to even get the parts to fix it, not to mention it would be very expensive. Since we are understaffed again at work, I cannot even go to the garage before Friday to pick up all the stuff I left in that car (like all my SCUBA equipment, which I hope is still present, the sleeping beauties working at the garage told me "well, we have not looked if there was stuff in the car", go figure). So, oh joy! I now have to look for a new car.
We will see how that will work out.
