...I have a new niece. Desperately wanted by her parents, a baby girl called Mikhaela. New life. New possibilities. Congratulations Uncle Wolfie! (and of course to the new parents as well). And to baby Mikhaela.. Hi! Welcome to the world! I'm one of those funny things you're seeing right now that you are going to learn are called "grownups", and I live in a land far over the ocean from your own. The ocean? Oh..just you wait until you find out about oceans..and beaches and clouds in the sky..you are going to love them! Although if I can offer you some advice Mikhaela, when you are bigger and you have found your feet (the fun really starts then!),and your parents or your uncle take you to the beach, try to resist the temptation to run into the ocean fully clothed. We grownups have kinda forgotten how much fun it is to do that. Well, most of us have... I'm getting carried away. Uncle Wolfie has shared with a group of us the news of your arrival and I wanted to say something directly to you. I know it must seem daunting laying there, surround by all those faces looking down at you...some might be smiling (you'll learn about that), some might be crying tears of happiness (you'll learn about that too) and some might be pulling faces and making funny noises (that's just uncle Wolfie..you'll get used to him 😉)...so think of them all as stories waiting to be discovered. What's that? What are stories? Oh little one...you are going to have the best time of all discovering stories...and books and tales and and fables and myths and legends and so many other things that before you know it you'll have written your own story in this funny thing we call life. Every day you'll get to write a new page in your story. As you grow you'll start new chapters in your story. And that leads to what I really wanted to say (albeit the long way round). If I could wish just one thing for you..just one..it would be that each and every page and each and every chapter of your story is a blissfully happy one. Best wishes "The Brigadier" Oh..I nearly forgot! If one day your uncle sits you down in front of a thing we call a "television" (you'll find out), puts a silver disc into a box and shares with you the stories of a traveller in a magic blue box righting wrongs and a funny taste in clothing....go with it. 😊

Today I found aged cheddar (!!!!) in my local supermarket. I bought the last packet. My day is officially made. I thought I would never taste the amazing flavour of 12 month aged cheddar again. This was like finding water in the desert after a 12 month drought.

Congratulations to you too! I think I've heard her mentioned once or twice in the past. It's a lovely feeling, isn't it? And they grow up so fast. Feels like I've only turned away for a couple minutes and her two brothers are already on the road to walking and talking. It's remarkable. They do indeed, old friend. They do indeed.

Hello again. It's funny I was only thinking about him the other day and his extraordinary run on Just a Minute. He was content to let others behave like divas, Kenneth Williams I'm looking at you, while he sat serenely at its heart. Unflappable, he enjoyed the ribbing from the likes of Paul Merton and Tony Parsons. I really don't know how they can replace him. He was Just a Minute, he knew when to stretch a point and applied the rules fairly and sometimes with a waspish sense of humour. He was also a steady, professional presence in anything he was involved with. His performance as the doubting priest in Fenric was a revelation. He played the character with great pathos. You knew he was far from your stock C of E vicar, when he said to Miss Hardaker he didn't think God was on anybody's side during war. His reading from Corinthians was heart-breaking, someone losing his faith, but still wanting to believe. I think only Russell has dealt with faith, in so sensitive way, despite not having one himself. Nicholas Parsons had a long career, with many highlights. For me, that Dr Who role and his important contribution to the success of Just a Minute are my favourites. I can hear his voice saying so distinctly:
"And so Paul speaking as the whistle went gains that extra point. Can you Jenny(Eclair), speak for one minute without hesitation, repetition or deviation on the subject of "Where I would go in my TARDIS..."

Sad news about Nicholas Parsons.
And the Season 26 Blu-ray box set of 'Doctor Who' only came out this week.
Tim.

Time certainly flies my other niece 19 next month & off to university in September doing animation, be emotional as she'll be living in & won't see her as much but she got to take flight & put her own stamp on the world bit worried though as she been very sheltered by her overbearing controlling dad which hasn't helped her mature.

It's crazy, I was just watching the Behind The Sofa for S26 last night and Sylv said how much Parsons really loved his role in Who and when he saw him recently Parsons had told him he always made a point of mentioning the show in his one man gigs and Q&As. He was a lovely, witty man who was part of that old school all round entertainer ideal we don't really have in the UK now. He could do it all. A loss...but a smashing, long happy life.

We had an emergency meeting at work today.. Because of this virus from China we all have emergency medical packs. We have a bag full of masks- rubber gloves, bottles of Dettol antiseptic etc..
There are a couple cases in Australia. If it hits our work place and we are ordered to wear the masks we (my department I am in) all have a gentleman's agreement we are going home immediately.

Maybe I should relisten to "Survivors"?

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Officially the last day of my holidays today, despite the fact that I’ve been doing a heap of stuff at or for work for the last week or so.
