Made a small donation to the local food bank. Wasn't enough, but I can't imagine this being an easy time for many struggling families and I'm sure every little bit must help. What a amazing thing to do my friend, you haven't had the best of times recently & yet you still show great kindness by helping others. Hope your ok my friend, stay safe & healthy.

Something remarkably small, since the lockdown began there's been an occassional song on the air. The light chiming of "Greensleeves" from an icecream truck. It's visited our neighbourhood twice since this all began, I haven't heard that sound for nearly a decade.
Today, we got icecream.

The team at work I have tentatively joined, we all had our flu vaccinations today.. I think Winter starts here June 1st(?). It's been raining hard here the last week. I am actually cold and usually I don't really feel it.

The Tasmanian winter started about a week ago already Whenever I'm sitting down for my studies it's always with a rug around the shoulders and a hot chocolate to hand

Oh, yeah. It gets cold! Not as cold as North America a couple of years ago where boiled water would vaporise, but the average winter day wouldn't get much higher than 10 oC. Just imagine the temperature when you're supposed to get out of bed in the morning though... I think we had about a solid week last year when I woke up to 0 oC... Surely we Tassie's must be known for a little more than that though? Not even a mention of the Tassie Devils? They're only really surviving because small populations have been moved to the mainland in order minimise the spread of the facial tumours (I recommend not Googling that if you don't know what it is - it's pretty horrible).

I remember travelling to Tasmania some years ago. We went right to the bottom, past Port Arthur I think or maybe it was Bruny, to the edge of the map and saw the end of the world. A natural reflecting pool, grey and brown in a crescent, and out just past where the sky met the horizon, there was a rainbow. Stark contrast to here in Queensland where we're still doing controlled burns in preparation for this year's spring. 30 oc tends to be the norm.

We rarely get 0C in Adelaide- plenty of 1-3C.. As a bald man.. I live in my beanie in winter time!

We moved to WA from Tassie 21 years ago this month and I’ve only just become acclimatised to the weather over here - I put the heater in my classroom on yesterday for the first time since about August. It was 16 degrees! Famous Taswegians also include Errol Flynn, David Walsh, David Boon, Essie Davis, Bob Brown. I don’t get back as often as I like or should but I do miss it.

I've lived here in Tassie for all 22 years of my life and I'm still not accustomed to the weather here! I'd probably quite literally melt if I ever went to the mainland There are some really beautiful places here, aren't there? I used to visit a lot of the tourist spots myself when I was younger, but since moving out of home for uni things have becoming decidedly more stay-at-home and dull (moved from a coastal town to one of the bigger cities, so you can't even go for a walk on the beach here). Looking forward to finishing my degree so I can start getting out and about a bit more (which will be at the end of the year all going well, so it should be legal for me to go to Cradle Mountain by then ).

My dad was involved in property for the Lands Department way back in the day and he would organise a lot of auctions and sales for weekends so that we could have family trips away (we always stayed in caravan parks that he could claim as expenses - cheaper than a hotel room for just him as well, so no harm done). We saw a lot of Tassie back in the day. My relief teaching days would also take me into a lot of country schools as well. Ridiculously I used to be able to find almost any street in Hobart and Southern Tasmania by memory but getting around Perth, which was planned by engineers and architects and other clever people and follows a pretty strict North/South, East/West street layout, is a daily challenge. (Also just remembered to add Princess Mary to the list of famous Taswegians: she used to live around the corner from me in Taroona when I was around 17 - 22. I tell kids that I used to live next door to a princess. I don't mention that we wouldn't have known each other from a bar of soap).

I couldn't tell you the name of street at the end of the road, let alone the layout of Hobart (I'm terrible at geography in general though) In terms of "famous", I guess my greatest claim to fame is I'm part of the Brumby family (on my Mum's side, though I've got my Dad's surname). One of the postulated reasons wild horses in Australia are called Brumbies is because when we colonised Aus, our family brought over a lot of horse that ended up escaping, so the horses were, quite literally, "Brumby's". Oh, I also went to high school/college with one of the newer cast members in Neighbours (don't and have never watched the show so don't know who she plays). I held a door open for her once and she thanked me

My biggest claims to fame would be going to school with Essie Davis (of Miss Fisher fame - I have mentioned this on this forum before). In terms of strictly Tasmanian fame, I acted in a lot of shows with John X before he was locally ubiquitous. He also MC-d my wedding as a favour. Oh yes, a Commonwealth Games silver medalist once told my mum that she and I were great mates (I didn’t know who she was). (apologies for turning this into the most niche thread ever)

I think the closest I can manage is that I was enrolled at the same university as Ron Grainer and Janet Fielding. Found this out duriing one of my film courses. I think I might have done one of the same majors as the latter, but it's tricky to tell with all the curriculum's shuffling about in the meantime.

I've seen a couple of episodes and would like to see more. Showing my thickness here, but I don't know who John X is (hope he isn't too famous and I look silly now...). A couple more people have come to mind. I went to the same college as Adam Hill's replacement host for Spicks and Specks (no, I didn't like the change of presenters either). I'm also friends with a local Tassie guy who was an umpire for badminton during the 2012 London Olympics! Not sure if anyone would know his name, but he's one of the best people I've ever met. Passionate and endlessly encouraging to young musicians across the North-West coast of Tasmania. So many lives have been changed by the opportunities he's provided to help children get into music. I think it might have started after your time in Tassie, but he ran the EMUcisians program (combined primary school concert band) for something like 2 decades and my life would be totally different without that. He's an amazing man!

John’s a mate of mine who has had a fair amount of success as an actor in Hobart and the mainland (in recent years he’s done The Lion King and The Wizard Of Oz). He also has a semi-regular gig on ABC radio.

Day made: a thankfully understanding professor who was able to give me an extension on my final project due to computer problems
EDIT: Also only have to take 3 classes next semester and I'll get to graduate
EDIT 2: Additionally, I just finished part of a media project I'm insanely proud of and it's halfway done. It's a good day.

1st day of the month, meaning "Report Day" at my work.. Someone tried to stir the pot officially before our legal start time, myself and my workmate are the only 2 that officially do these reports. We put the kaibosh on that straight away with a vengeance. Nope. Not on my watch. Lesson was learned by this person.
