I don’t really think it’s comparable to sets starring the Doctor, especially when one range features Sir John Hurt and the other stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate or Billie Piper.
It’s more comparable to UNIT, which is a similarly sized regular cast, but is currently £23 a set for four stories in individual cases. It’s fair to say that will go up to £25 from Volume 9 onwards.
I agree with it being a hit, though. They’re well liked characters, a spin-off has been much requested and an instant four set commission are all very promising indicators. That’s where the pricing comes from, I’d say.

Inevitable after the untimely end of Jago & Litefoot. But seems a bit overpriced.

I think the extra cost comes from it being a slipcase with individual cases for each CD, rather than a jewel case. Note that the War Master has also been demoted to jewel cases.

Not really concerned with a few bucks either way. As mentioned above, this is the least surprising announcement they could have made. As I've mentioned before, on TV I have always felt a little Paternoster Gang went a long way, so I'm really curious to see if BF can work their magic and make them the primary focus for a box set without having Strax or the various Vastra/Jenny innuendoes or double entendres drive me crazy. Of course I said the same things about River Song and I've loved that range. So bring on the gang!

Very easy preorder. It’s also the first time I’ve preordered the whole bundle too, instead of just the first set. Looking forward to this!

Perhaps whatever rights Moffat had that prevented them from putting the gang together before lead to the increase in price? Or BF is experimenting with raising their prices for the first time in years since production costs must be going up but their prices have stayed the same? Or we can blame Brexit somehow. I like that option.
Are these a little too expensive? Yes. Will I still buy them? Yes. I'm delighted we're finally getting this series. My only disappointment is that we never got that TV spinoff I was sure was coming back around 2013/2014.

The campaign for a cameo by Henry Gordon Jago starts now ... Well, given HGJ is part of Vastra’s back story in a number of not-TV mentioned material it’s entirely possible! (although I’m not sure I like the implication from the Titan comic that HGJ exploited Vastra, Henry would never do that).

I am glad it has taken awhile for The Paternoster Gang to arrive on audio.
I always liked them in the TV series and I have enjoyed reading and hearing them in books, comics and audiobooks.
Whilst I had a new Jago & Litefoot to look forward too I didn’t see the need for them in Big Finish. But now with those illustrious gentlemen finally in retirement and the gang now coating in a sheen of nostalgia I am excited to get more audio Victorian adventures.
As others have said I hope that the world of Jago & Litefoot is acknowledged in this range.

I've been hanging out for this series since the New Series license was announced! (Couldn't understand why they weren't a starting range at the time, but as time went on it became pretty clear why) A definite pre-order from me... but I'll wait until late May/early June for the bundle I wasn't sure I could afford the whole bundle but I'm so thrilled about this that I pre-ordered the first two volumes for the time being.

To be honest, I don’t think the instruction by Moffat to not use the trio together is anything sinister. I think he probably wasn’t 100% sure if he’d finished with them or not. They’re great recurring characters that were the driving force behind 3 out of their 5 TV episodes - the other two being parts of an ensemble - and could easily have been brought back opposite Bill & Nardole or a Christmas special. At the time it did seem somewhat inevitable after the 50th anniversary that they’d spawn their own TV spin-off or festive specials, but nothing ever surfaced.
UNIT were a little different in that the Zygon plot gave them a clear era for Big Finish to use (pre-Day) and a clear one for the show to use (post-Day), with little conflict.
I do hope they manage to get Dan Starkey to write a Paternoster story. Fingers crossed!

I think what works about these characters on audio is the three distinct accents.

I have said it before Victorian London got too crowded with J and L and then Paternoster.I just couldn’t get into this gang at all.I think if they had been set in a different time period i may have enjoyed but no matter how i tried I couldn’t. They were a cheap version of J and L and even if Henry appears i wont be getting. Only three stories for £25.I feel also we may be in for a price rise too i see the Companion Chronicles in Amazon are increasing to £10.52 from £8.99

I wasn't a fan when they were in Doctor Who so I'll be skipping this.

While I'm not quite ready to commit to four boxsets in a single go, Heritage is now sitting alongside Volume 1 of Missy on my "ones to keep an eye on" list. Considering I wasn't all that keen on the writing for the Master's female incarnation nor the Paternosters when they appeared on the TV show it's bit ironic that I'm even looking for further details, but Big Finish do have a real knack for spinning gold from straw (a certain Professor Song springs instantly to my mind..).
As for Jago..*Wishful thinking warning*.. in another thread I expressed a hope that if Vastra, Jenny and Strax went on to their own boxset that they might start to walk alongside the trail blazed by the professor and the theatre impresario. We now know they are getting four boxsets so I've changed my mind on that. Regardless of if I am along for the ride I hope they find their own way rather than imitating. Whereas before the idea of an episode featuring Jago or Ellie or Quick appealed enormously, now I'm drawn to the idea of a brief cameo appearance by Christopher Benjamin somewhere along the line to the pass the torch on. I'm even OK with the notion of that not happening at all, but rather lines peppered into the scripts to suggest Henry and George are still out there, still investigating the infernal and still having a ball doing so.
But until such time that Big Finish lavish us with more detail and end my speculating on what might be, the 'pay now' button will have to remain unclicked..
