I wouldn’t be surprised if they did an edit of the trailer to be broadcast tomorrow following Strictly or EastEnders, where the Doctor reveals it’s a Dalek. Perhaps even a brief shot of it / them? That’d be a neat bit of promotion.
And incidentally, a happy Christmas to all of you at home!

I imagine we're going to head back to Christmas specials eventually - it feels more part of the shakeup, then anything else.

I'm hedging my bets that weren't not going to see the Daleks proper, but something Dalek adjacent (a Time War weapon or some such) to tease out The Doctor's resolve, although it wouldn't suprise me if Chibnall was just putting more new pieces on the board.

I had to check in to see if I was hearing things from upstairs this morning. 😨
Glad I wasn't imagining things!

Assuming that's an audio clip from this episode, Nick Briggs becomes the first person to be hired back by Chibnall from a previous production team, doesn't he?

Wayne Yip and Nick Briggs kinda share the honour then, coming back for the same story and all.

I know they need to build up hype for the episode, but it seems silly for them to go out of their way not to spoil that, only to spoil it a week before it airs. Why bother with the subterfuge in the first place?

Chris Chibnall did a DWM Production Notes earlier this year, listing a few of the returning members of the production team.

I thought it was pretty much a clean slate in the series proper but TBH I haven't been following the behind the scenes that closely.

I don’t delve into the behind the scenes all that much, and had I not read that Production Notes, I’d think the same. New showrunner, main cast, writers, directors and no returning Monsters. It’s a completely clean slate on the face of things.

Nick Briggs is kind of irreplaceable as The Daleks at this point, so it doesn't suprise me, really.

It wouldn't suprise me if the episode will feature Dalek (Time War?) weapon, rather then the Daleks themselves.

I know I would have been pretty disappointed if it was anyone else.

Surely there's literally no other show on TV where "So and so is irreplaceable..." is as untrue as it is in Doctor Who. Given literally every cast member was replaced within the first 3 years, and it constantly changes the leads. The Daleks became iconic when Nick was still in nappies. They'll do fine when he hangs up the ring modulator too. I'd imagine most people would scarcely notice any change, it's much easier to replicate vocals now than in the classic era where a Hawkins Dalek or Skelton Dalek sound nothing like a Graham one etc - but they still sounded like Daleks so it scarcely required any getting used to. If anything I'd say it's the Hawkins one that's irreplaceable given everyone since has done their take on his voice. It's not like anyone really protested that Nick was replaced as the Cybervoice when Handles was played by Kayvan Novak. No-one even seemed to notice.

There is a great fondness for Nick Briggs playing the Daleks, we shall say. He's been voicing them for almost two decades now. Longer, if you count his earlier work for Audio Visuals. For a great many viewers and listeners, I'm sure he is the voice of the Daleks. I know for me he is. It's logical to bring him back until he no longer can. Long may that day be postponed.

True, but I wouldn't put it past Chibnall to be playing the long game.

That would be a massive own goal. You could have done that a week ago but now the public have heard "Exterminate" on a trailer, they're being sold a Dalek episode. Nothing less. It makes absolute sense if it's the design they don't want people to see rather than their presence.
