Really, really enjoyed this set. Wasn't sure what I'd think about it at first, but each of the stories spun a unique take on the apocalypse theme and had well developed worldbuilding that I couldn't help but get interested in. Somehow, I have to wonder if Rose will end up pulling a Benny and encountering an Unbound Doctor in the next set - David Collings, anyone?

Enjoyed this, although a bit grim.
Very Gallifrey IV
Agree with others re the lack of an ending, but I am hopeful that means we will get series 2 or 3 to give it the ending that leads into Turn Left

As part of Operation Catchup, I've listened to this while commuting over the last week.
It's a really good set and far better than I imagined. I wasn't overly impressed with Billie's audio work on the 10DA Vol. 2 set but she comes into her own here. Reading through comments I do agree with two sentiments though:
1. All 4 of the sets having the ticking clock to doomsday does get a bit old. Neccesary as it sets up the collapsing Universe of S4? Yeah...but hearing it 4 times back to back almost detracts from it being such a major event.
2. Something at the end, even picking up a trace of Artron energy or something minute, would have been nice. It feels like a 4 story set with no real arc and no real reason to keep going given we know they obviously succeed in finding our Earth by the events of Partners In Crime (seeing Rose there still gives me chills)
Yet that's all 4th wall stuff. The stories themselves were lovely little snapshots at a very odd but very loving family. WHen Jackie, Rose and Pete from 3 different universes meet in the Robot story and just know, somehow, they really are family it's a gorgeous moment. As is all that stuff with Odessa, Mickey's mum, in the last story. Happily as well as Billie making Rose how she was on TV again, Shaun Dingwall and Mark Benton turn the years back to give us a Pete and Clive that are exactly in tune with the ones we saw on screen. Clive may not be the same Clive but...well, he is really. Shaun playing 3 or 4 Petes is quite fantastic and I can't wait for more of him.
I expected this to be grim based on what has been said but it never feels that way - there's an odd beauty to the way many of the characters here face their ends. There's no almost nihilistic character work like at the end of the 8DAs. This was a philosophical way of dealing with the end times.
The star for me was Camille as Jackie. That woman is a national treasure in my book and Jackie in the last story is defiant, brave, loving, tender - she's a wonderful character. Noel Clarke tweeted a while back he hadn't been asked to come back to BF. That seems bonkers to me - surely in this set he's a natural? And for SHort Trips or 10DAs?
When this was announced I just expected it to be a reheated version of RTD's old Rose Tyler: Earth Defence TV show that went nowhere. This was more intimate and more touching than I suspect that would ever have been. It reminded me very much of the movie Miracle Mile from the 80s with Anthony Edwards in which the apocalypse is used only to bring out a character piece. Seeing the end isn't as important as seeing how people react to knowing it's coming.
Very impressed and I didn't expect to be at all.

Just listened to episode 1, and yup, pretty wowed! I often feel Big Finish audios play things too safe. But this was experimental, brave and shocking. And not predictable. Great stuff! Also a joy to hear Clive back, and Billie Piper sounded superb in her part. Looking forward to listening to the rest soon. I’d had to wait until my husband had time to listen to ep 1 too, and he really liked it too. So may have to wait a bit more for eps 2-4, but both very much looking forward to them.

Even a month after listening, I think I can firmly say that the favorite for me was episode 2. Solely because Rob and Rose sharing a single brain cell the entire time was such a delight. It makes me wonder what the alternate universe probably out there somewhere of if Rose was written to have a brother.

It's a no from me, basically I felt it was four hours of the same thing. Billie Piper was excellent, but I tired of the format half way through the second story (although the 2nd was the best of the bunch), the third was the worst of all, and I can barely remember the fourth as I was just listening for the sake of it by then.

Just made a dint into this. For someone who didn't find Billie/Rose the be all and end all, I really enjoyed the first two stories. They aren't groundbreaking but Billie and Mark Benton seem to be having a ball recording and the result has been very entertaining so far.

Just finished listening to it today. Haven't quite finished the Behind the Scenes interviews yet. They do discuss why they were not doing Rose Tyler: Earth Defense.
It is a bit grim, such as in the Ghost Machines it seems they have things solved but we hear chaos erupting again after they have left.
I do hope they do another series and add Mickey into the mix.
And just now I did feel compelled to watch a few scenes from Turn Left, The Stolen Earth and Journey's End.

Honestly I kinda wish there was a season 2 and I feel there was a mis opportunity to not have Rose Encounter the war master as it would have tied perfectly to the War Masters Appearance in UNIT Code Silver

I finally got around to listening to this last week. Really enjoyed it, and thought it was really cool that they brought back Clive.
Funny thing is that these stories fit right in with the head canon I'd gotten from reading the fan fic that I talked about some pages back in this thread (and that I read quite a long time ago, long before this series was thought of).

Thank you, that's a good fic! Especially like having Tosh, Malcolm and Adeola as Torchwood co-workers of Rose in Pete's World and Tosh and Malcolm having designed the Cannon.

There are a couple more fan fics related to Donna's story, Journey's End, and the alternate universe that I read and enjoyed after my daughter told me about them. I'm not really a fan fic person in general, but there are some that I've enjoyed.

Hmm... mixed feelings for me. It's nice to have more Rose/Billie but I felt like the premise was already getting old by the time I finished the first set as most of the stories were quite similar so I'm hoping they find a different angle for these upcoming ones.

Eh. Much like the first volume I’m probably going to skip this if it’s just going to be another series of bleak alternate dystopias over and over again.
Still, always nice to see Mark Benton in anything.

Yeah, this is a mixed announcement for me too. I loved the first set, far more than I expected to, and loved the ensemble. But the concept was getting close to over saying its welcome by the final episode and I was one who was very much in favour to closing it with a lead in to Turn Left. To get another six episodes… I’m not really sure what else they can do, to be honest.
If they change the format of a different universe every time, then it could give the range a shake up. Having said that, would that just get further away from the premise? I won’t be pre-ordering just yet and awaiting further details, but it’s lovely to get Billie back and for a relatively substantial commitment at that, especially as this was off the back off I Hate Suzie & Rare Beasts. I just think on the basis of The Dimension Cannon 1 I’d have probably used her in other scenarios.
