I had an idea for this year's Opportunity months ago and I started to write the synopsis for it but it just wasn't working, no matter how many small changes or rewrites I did. Having just come back to, I reorganised a couple of the main events and 'click!', it works! Fresh eyes are an amazing thing! I'll have to work on the opening section for the "flavour" aspect of the submission over the next couple of days, but I think I might actually enter this year (The only other time I entered was the first year, when I hadn't heard a Short Trip before... It wasn't very good, let's put it that way )

I think my entry's just about ready for submission. I'll leave it for today and come back tomorrow to try to pick up on any little mistakes. In the incredibly likely event that I don't win, I think I'll put it forward for the next Divergent Wordsmiths collection. I've enjoyed working on it so much I'd love to get the chance to complete it

3 days left.
If you're worried about it or just procastinating, remember: the worst Ian and Bob can do is say no. You lose nothing, and you got to flex your creative muscles and do something productive for an afternoon or two.

And no matter whether the answer is yes or no, the work you have accomplished is still there. Yours to keep and use however you choose. You still gain something regardless.

And no matter whether the answer is yes or no, the work you have accomplished is still there. Yours to keep and use however you choose. You still gain something regardless. The competition is not about trying to put yourself above all other contenders, which is why it's called an opportunity for any aspiring or established writer who has the freedom to pitch whatever they feel works. Sometimes an idea would come very quickly, sometimes it'd take days or, perhaps, weeks. It's not the end of the world if you don't have a really good idea for this round, or try to sit down and complete the synopsis/extract by the deadline, there are no rules saying that you must submit what you've done - we're not at school receiving the same homework over and over again. Of course not. This is just a writing exercise to see how creative you can be and what obstacles you would encounter along the way. Whatever happens over the forthcoming months, try not to worry about whether you're gonna be shortlisted or not. Use your entry as a record of achievement to indicate that you've made the best efforts overall; that's what I've been doing with my submissions since I first entered in 2017. To resist the temptation of shelving your ideas, rewrite them. Improve them. Expand them. Or, in some cases, adapt them.

Whew, got mine in with a few hours to spare. I haven't had the right headspace for writing these last couple of months, but luckily I had already managed a synopsis and a bit past the first page, so I just did my best to bash them into shape.
Slightly worried on two fronts: One is my word count being a bit high, but as I keep reminding myself, the rules do emphasise the "one page" bit over the "500 words" bit, and it's not like I fiddled the formatting to fit more in or anything. My other concern is the "no new companions" rule. I ended up toeing the line on that one, not to be obnoxious but because it was unavoidable for the story I wanted to tell. I hope my intent comes across and I don't inadvertently sour the judges. Good luck everyone!

I'm sure a few words over the limit won't cause an issue - I'd imagine sticking to a single page is the higher priority (and as long as it's not obviously been reduced in font size to cram an extra three hundred on!).

Good luck to everyone submitting! It's a scary thing to put yourself out there, and a reflection of Doctor Who fans' sheer creativity.

Hello again.
Well, this year is the first year I have had literally no ideas. So, no entry this time. However, can I wish all those taking part this year all the best. I particularly want to wish those who have entered for the first time good luck and encourage them to continue writing.

Finally submitted mine. It's my second year doing it, after the original back in 2016. I feel like I have a better grasp at the format now and it's a much better story. Fingers crossed! And good luck to everyone else who has submitted! Hopefully, it's someone from the forum again this year.

Two and a quarter hours left, everyone!
Get the coffee on and don't forget the spellcheck. 'Teh' is wack.
