I think this literally gets the lowest rating of any Big Finish I have ever heard. Magrs is a great writer but there's a basic premise here so awful I don't think any writer could have made something good out of it, it's just way too disrespectful to a certain character who for some of us has at least some degree of heroic status. I'm sure they meant well but I've really no idea what Big Finish was thinking on this one.

{Spoiler} This was released back in the days when Matthew Waterhouse wasn't a BF regular, and I'm wondering if it is the CD extras, where people aren't very kind about him, that casts a shadow over this release's reputation. Maybe, maybe not.
I really like The Boy the Time Forgot. It steps 'out of the envelope', an interesting departure from 'the norm.' It is, by its very nature, a divisive story and subject, and not necessarily 'canon' (for those who are troubled about such things). But it is strange, nightmarish, funny and ultimately tragic (Peter Davison's acting during the finale is very moving). Like some of Paul Magrs output, I couldn't listen to this all the time, but really enjoy it when I do.

Its awkward whereas normally Paul Magrs writes oddball and good or just odd this feels like 2 half ideas forced together with no idea of an objective. The central character wasn't a favourite of mine by any means to begin with, this did nothing to redeem them for me.

I don't quite get all the hate for this ... ok, it's not chimes of midnight but it's 10 times more listenable than dark husband or dreamtime.
my views on Paul Magrs seems to be the opposite of everyone else's. I like this story but can't have Iris at all.

Arrrrghh my arms my legs my everything, poorly written characters & a awful performance by Andrew Sachs as a certain character, pure nonsensical bafflegab.
As Mark 687 excellently points out it feels like two stories merged together but neither one giving a satisfactory pay off.
1/5.

Based on what I'd heared about this story I expected to turn it off at some point. While it wasn't quite that bad I have no desire to every relisten to it again.

For me, 'The Boy That Time Forgot' was a bad idea that somebody thought was a good idea. The result was a poor story that just leaves you wondering, 'why?' when you've finished it... with no desire to go through it all again. (Although I did try a repeat listen not so long ago, but gave up after the first CD.) The ideas in this story just didn't work for me. So The Boy That Time Forgot is a rare Big Finish miss as far as I'm concerned.

I'm glad that I almost always listen unspoiled by others opinions. This one is no classic but it's not horrible either. Now, I suspect that BF never would have made it if they knew Matthew would later join the fray....

I'm interested as to how this intersects with Magrs's novels about the Bride (of Frankenstein). Does Brenda have a big role? Should this be listened to before or after the similarly-titled book "The Bride That Time Forgot"?

I like 'The Land that Time Forgot'/'The People that Time Forgot' (Edgar Rice Burroughs) riff in the title. I guess the Doctor is the Doug McClure character here. Both were Amicus productions with lots of Who alumni, including Anthony Ainley, so at least it had good pedigree.

I'm glad that I almost always listen unspoiled by others opinions. That's the way it should be. I've always been a firm believer in people hearing stories for themselves rather than basing their likes/dislikes on somebody else's opinions.
Now, I suspect that BF never would have made it if they knew Matthew would later join the fray.... Very likely!
