A lot tied to the PS2, but I have a lot of fondness for my SNES and Mega Drive (Genesis, to our Americans members). Teris/Dr Mario and Batman Returns are my de-stress games.

Commodore 64 IMO was the best.

This is a tough call, Nintendo has had some absolutely amazing systems and their handhelds are frankly amazing. Gamecube had a top tier line up, but the PS3 & 4 have also had some phenomenal games as well.
This is way more difficult than it should be.

Ohh... I have lots of fond memories of the Sega Mega Drive, it must've been the first console I played on. I can remember the classic Sonic titles, Altered Beasts, Comix Zone, the lock-on cartridge technology...
The PlayStation 2 was definitely the formative console for me, though. Ratchet and Clank, the Jak series, the modern Sonic games, Everything or Nothing (a superb Bond game), Destroy All Humans, and on it goes. The backwards compatability helped it enormously too. For the original PlayStation was the original Spyro trilogy, Crash Bandicoot, MediEvil, a Resident Evil clone called Chase the Express and more than likely a few others which have escaped my memory for the moment. The soundtrack to Sonic Heroes was played heavily at parties and MediEvil is where I first encountered Paul Darrow, playing the main antagonist, a dark necromancer named Zarok (Tom Baker is slated to play Death in the PS4 remaster). Come to think of it... Stewart Copeland has done the soundtrack to The Equalizer, Babylon 5, the Spyro games and was a member of The Police. The guy's been all over favourites I've enjoyed and I'd never known it. The X-Box tended to get associated with darker and "grittier" titles like Halo or Fable. The former I think I can still quote verbatum in regards to the second game. "The weight of your heresy shall stay your feet and you shall be left behind..." I can remember playing with someone who had read all the books, studied the wikia and played everything that had been released so far. There is something very interesting about seeing someone react to a shocking event in a story for reasons that are even more upsetting if you know the universe inside-out. What I'm saying is that there was a lot of screaming by the end of the Halo trilogy. Fear or frustration? Players' choice!

Frustration at those driving segments for me!
I've got the master chief collection. It's been so long since I've played those games.
The xbox had some great games for me, MGS2 totally blew me away with it's story and knights of the old republic (1 &2) was astonishing. despite 2 being an absolute mess. Fable was fun, but soo limited.

Ah, yes, the driving sections... "WHY ARE THERE SIX PEDALS IF THERE ARE ONLY FOUR DIRECTIONS?"
I missed out on the Metal Gear games unfortunately, but the two Knights of the Old Republic games are phenomenal. A real credit to BioWare's ability to worldbuild inside what was already a fairly dense universe. I played through them on the PC when I was first discovering the modding community. Have you heard of Solomon's Revenge for KOTOR 1 or the Restored Content Mod for the second? The former adds a fully-voiced DLC pack of sorts that explores Revan's rise to power and the Mandalorean Wars. The latter replaces all the content lost in the rush to get KOTOR 2 out the door in time for Christmas. The HK Factory (where those gunmetal-grey bloodhounds were being manufactured), numerous sidequests and characters, even a whole lost planet.
Well worth checking out if you've got a PC copy of the game, I think they're still on ModDB.

I'm looking at it right now, great big, blocky beige thing. Rad, I didn't know I still had it.
Looks a lot like this:

Hmm...over the years I have owned: - Colecovision - Nintendo - N64 - PSX - PS2 - Wii - PS3 - 360 - Xbone - PS4
I've loved them all to varying degrees, but I probably had the most fun times with my N64.

I'm a Playstation boy through and through. This becomes even more prevalent nowadays, but in the era of PS2 and 3, every game I wanted to play was on them, and the few Xbox exclusives I always got to try and friends houses but never enjoyed them enough that I wanted to play further. And I had a Wii as well, but nothing could play like Playstation. And nowadays with the PS4 and Xbox 1, I have never even felt the want to use the Xbox, as there isn't anything exclusive to the console that is quite frankly good. Compare that to the PS4 with God of War, Spider-Man, The Last Of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, Uncharted, Until Dawn. The list goes on and on.

how to choose? obviously I rule out those which I never played on and some I rarely played on (Odyssey, Commodore 64) also rule out the ZX81 for not really being good enough technical issues mean I rule out the Dreamcast (dodgy disc reader) and XBox (dodgy motherboard) and my PS3 is starting to play up I've only had mty PS4 for a couple years. Didn't do much playing on my Saturn, Gamecube or Wii which leaves me with Playstation, PS2 and XBox360 the deciding element has to be the selectioon of games so PS2 gets the win (helped by backwards compatabiolity)

Putting a vote in for the Commodore Vic 20, the predecessor of the Commodore 64.
With it's bulky tape deck that took an eternity to load pixelated games that today's generation would look at in pure undiluted disgust and games cartridges the size of a house brick that you had to ram into the back of the keyboard just to get them to work properly, it was the epitome of basic.
I absolutely loved playing it. ๐

Oh, and a nod of recognition to the games console whose name totally escapes me..but on which my sister and I played tennis for many an hour.
Which when you consider the game consisted on two white lines on either side of the TV screen being moved up and down by the player to bounce a white dot back and forth really is rather sad... ๐
