Some notes from FaceBook from Jason's family.
Jason's mum Helen
Jason's uncle Tim
There is more on FaceBook; I've chosen not to reproduce it here as it's quite personal to Jason and his family. If anyone feels they'd like to know more about Jason, his FaceBook page is JasonWard and his uncle Tim will respond to any friend requests made in the next few days. The full eulogy and other messages are there.
Jason's mum Helen
Helen, Jason's Mum here. Thank you for all your kind messages. The sun shone for his funeral. It was a short ceremony. Jason's uncles, Robert and Tim both gave short addresses and his cousin, Frances read a short piece from Terry Pratchett's "Going Postal". We entered to Elgar's Violin Concerto played by Yehudi Menuhin and the exit music was Len "Steal My Sunshine". At Jason's commital we played the Dr. Who theme tune and finally the Tardis sound. I gave the eulogy.
Jason's uncle Tim
I got as far as just jotting stuff down. So here, unedited and not fully explained are some of the memories, thoughts and reflections of one of his uncles.
A kind and gentle child and young man; a companion at Hillsborough - watching Wednesday lose again; a good choice as Godparent to our son; always an intelligent contribution to any conversation. He listened. Someone I always thought I would work with, nearly did, but not quite. Happy memories of nights out in London with him and Jessica .... including an introduction to his girl friends at The Windmill - and the not quite so comfortable explanation to my wife!
Frustration at his losing fight with mental health; bemusement at how he and so many other good and intelligent people can lose their way. The uplifting reading on Facebook of spontaneous and genuine tributes to Jason, all free from scepticism of there being "friend" pressure - and importantly whilst Jason was there to read them. The regard in which he was held in the Divergent Universe. Great comfort in learning how much love and care he received from Jo, JoJo and Rosie. Delight at learning that he found solace in music during dark times; surprise that Electronic Dance Music was his go to Spotify play list; that "Steal My Sunshine" was his song, and so saddened when the sunshine left his life.
I knew as I wrote this, that this is a song that will always remind me of him, but that they will mostly be good memories. And perhaps that nobody stole his sunshine, that in fact he specifically gave his away - and that those here and further abroad were intended recipients. I shall enjoy the sunshine all the more."
