Well, this is exciting, if not entirely unexpected. Will definitely be getting this. Pity it's download only.
I'm not clear from the synopsis if the last episode is a follow-on from the season 5 ending or an alternate ending?

In the news article, it says the third story is an unused finale. So I assume it's an alternate finale (because it literally is just his original finale before he did Ever After).
And it's a shame it's not on CD, Dorian Gray was one of the few series I ensured I'd get every CD for. But perhaps understandable, I imagine BF may not be interested in CD's for what may not be a huge seller, as people may not be willing to shell heaps of money just for audiobooks.
In saying that, this is fantastic. I wished Big Finish did more prose/audiobook stories for their various ranges as well as the radioplays. I recall talk of a possible Jago and Litefoot book happening, though a part of me doubts this would happen.

There's also, for the first time in Big Finish history, an audio commentary. That's right, audio commentary for audio drama. It's for Heart That Live Alone.
A story that's an audio commentary has been done for the story Special Features from the Doctor Who Main Range anthology release The Demons of Red Lodge and Other Stories, and the audio track for the material that's being commentated on is included as a subscriber bonus if you have that story in a subscription. However Heart That Lives Alone is the first release to get a straight out commentary track, not just being a narrative gimmick.

Confessions series 1 & 2 were DL only, but then BF relented and released them on CD. Wonder if the same will happen with this, or have times, and customer preferences, moved on?

A lot of their new audio readings are download only, with a physical copy counterpart being released in prose form. That's what's happened with the recent Benny and Blake's 7 short story anthologies.

So...they got someone to novelize already- or near-completed scripts, and then had Alex V read the novelizations as an audiobook, rather than just do them as plays (which probably would’ve pleased everyone)? Am I reading that right? Seems a bit of a convoluted approach...

Am I reading that right? Seems a bit of a convoluted approach... Alex didn't want to 'play' Dorian again, but was intrigued by the idea of audiobook presentation. So, it was a case of either no Dorian, or more Dorian in an alternative form. And as these are unmade stories from before the series was commissioned/an alternative finale, they occupy a different space from the main Confessions, so it made sense.

That really helps clear up how all the moving parts work, in my head. I read the article and my brain went ‘why on Earth did they go to all the trouble of doing A,C,D,E,F when it would’ve been far simpler to just do A,B?’ I also read it at 5:30am, in bed, not fully awake, so subtleties may have passed me by Dorian’s a series I wanted to go on forever (and I’ll be right there buying if/when you guys decide to revive it!!) so I’m very happy with today’s news that a little more is coming!

Yep. We text each other every so often. With this news I planned to text her anyway. I'm going to see if she'll come back home as well.
