I can't believe that no one has started a thread. I thought it was fantastic. What a great Troughton-esque, base under siege episode! I love the secondary characters, and the ghosts are truly creepy. So far the three episodes this season have been the best Who in years. Could it be that Moffat has learned from past mistakes? I am also loving the two-part format. It feels great to be a Who fan right now!

Is it just me, or were the three figures on the mural of the sea-monster and the ship all wearing "Star Trek" costumes?

Outstanding episode, Capaldi was awesome & should just how good a Doctor he can be, on the whole this was a tense, dark, creepy, intriguing atmospheric episode that reminded me why i love Doctor Who.
The late great Robert Holmes must have possessed writer Toby Whitehouse on this story as it felt a very Holmes like story.

For the first time in a long time I was left thinking "what? What? WHAT??".
Forget Missy, Clara, Daleks, etc., give me a Troughton-esq "Base Under Siege" story any day. I thought it was brilliant and can't wait for next week.
Cheers
Tony

I really enjoyed that one. Just one slight niggle though: how did his glasses manage to keep the wi-fi link to the control room once he shut himself inside the Faraday cage?
The cliffhanger was somewhat obvious when the ghost appeared in the distance, but I have no problem with cliffhangers you see coming. I actually enjoyed it all so much I turned if off before the next week spoiler section, as I want to come into it clean.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

OK, deaf female base commander, black guy gets killed first: is Moffat trolling the haters now?
In all seriousness, I loved this: atmospheric, Doctor infecting others with the need to find out, base under siege, most obvious clue to dealing with monsters since Warriors Of The Deep (they are shouting silently, what we need is someone who can lipread...), sonic sunnies were useful...
Just lots of fun.

Can't believe I forgot this one - go look at wikipedia as to when "Mysterious Girl" was No. 1. Clever!

Loved it. Capaldi gave maybe his most Doctor-ish performance yet. The last 2 weeks have been massive, glorious slices of fan-service but this was classic-Who. Very much Tom Baker in a Troughton story. Whithouse's best Who work. Caithness in a futuristic sci-fi....unreal

A great story. Whitehouse wins again. and i'm loving the fact that the sotry over the two parts is essentially being told in reverse. Who's in the animation chamber

Just finished watching this one... excellent! Although the instant a new ghost showed up at the end I knew what the cliffhanger was going to be. But beyond that, I have no idea how they'll get out of this one - which is how cliffhangers should be.
The set design here was very good,it looked like they spent a ton of money on making this look good. The only quibble I have here is the same as I have with the TARDIS - lots of corridors but are there actually any rooms?
Another nitpick - I missed it if it was stated, but just how far underwater was this supposed to be? That's where some story points start to fall apart for me - an area flooded after a dam collapse, really, how deep would that be? And wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to drain this valley or whatever it is, to get at the petrol, instead of spending a gazillion pounds on building such a facility? Of course, when I heard about an almost magical appearance of a previously unknown petroleum deposit, I expected it to be an important part of the story. (like it really isn't there, it was a lure)
Anyway, it's been years since I've really had the full cliffhanger experience on Doctor Who. NuWho Series 1-7 I watched all on DVD. Since then I've been watching online. So, it's probably been since 1984 or 85 when the local PBS station stopped "stripping" the individual episodes of Doctors 3/4/5 on weeknights, that I really had a true "wait and see" Dr. Who cliffhanger. (and no, I didn't watch the trailer for next week... not interested in spoiling it)

Now that is what I'm talking about: ghosts that aren't actually ghosts, mystery blended with base under siege, and doing something New Who hasn't done: going back in time to work things out in the second half, with unpredictable results.
(And while I don't need nice CGI/sets, this looked great as well).
Somewhere near 10/10.
Great stuff.
I think the only complaint I have about it is that "kiss it to death speech". I find it grating.

Is it just me, or were the three figures on the mural of the sea-monster and the ship all wearing "Star Trek" costumes? It does look that way. But, if it's a Trek joke/reference, they flubbed it slightly: The guy in the red shirt should be the one in the beast's mouth

I feel like the Doctor is definitely in the casket. Maybe the TARDIS will get left somewhere in the village, buried by the flood and recovered in the future. Then he'll pop out and save the day.
Maybe his consciousness being inside the casket is enough for him to be considered "dead"
