Holy bloody hell, this is stunning. River Song Series 5, Redux! October can't come soon enough.
Honestly, I'm just curious as to what they have planned for Eight after this set.

Bit odd getting the exact same "gimmick" as we got in the last River set. I hope Eric Roberts is a bit more animated in this one as whatever he got paid for the last one was too much. Most excited to get a Last Tango reunion - we'd better get Derek and Nicola together!

So it’s The Diary of River Song 5 without River Song.
I love the Beevers, Jacobi and Gomez incarnations, they’re my three favourites. It’s strange to repeat the gimmick so soon, though.

Oh wow. Never would've seen this coming. That's very exciting! Although I am left wondering - if the finale of Ravenous is all about the Master(s)....just what the heck is "the Ravenous" in this whole storyline?! Curses!

As excited as I am for this, the lack of Alex McQueen in any of the Master-ful sets is now an absolutely glaring omission.

I was just thinking the same thing as I was writing a reply to the tweet...but couldn't think of any good nice way to express both my sadness that he's not in this, but that I'm still very excited about this news. Even in that last sentence, it sounds more complainey than positive!

I'm sorry I know people love River but she's a Spin Off,
This is a corner stone of the show and I will never be tired of it!

I think it was inevitable that the MacQueen Master would be sidelined as soon as they started getting more TV incarnations on board. The same will apply for the Dreyfus incarnation, I’d imagine. Big Finish have recorded their three stories with him and the remaining ones will be released and that’ll be it.
For me, it’s not a sad loss, as I’m not a great fan of their portrayals and they’ve served their purpose. I know the MacQueen Master in particular is well liked, so I appreciate I'm in the minority!

I feel more flat about this announcement than I probably should. I’d be more excited if it wasn’t the same gimmick as River Song 5 and so soon afterwards. Still, at least it’s a multi-Master, so we’ll (hopefully) see all the Masters interacting with each other. I wonder what this means for the Ravenous if the final episode is based around the Masters? Also, it’s nice to see they’ve got a new picture for Helen, finally.

It's not quite the same as 'River 5' though - The 'River 5' masterset are all back, but NOT one per story as in that set (which I thought was an excellent set btw.)
I think this is a great idea, multi-Master/Missy-mayhem

I am finding that with all of Dr Who to play with BF can't help themselves in doing these sort of things.

Regards mark687 I'm not sure what the relevance is, they all cross over a great deal. The Eighth Doctor and River especially. Putting the four incarnations of the Master together again isn’t a bad thing at all, it’s no different to the multi-Doctor stories we get. Indeed, it seems that they’ll interact at least. It’s just strange to repeat the marketing gimmick again nine months later. Where it happens doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t reflect badly on the stories themselves. I’m personally happy with more content from my three favourite Masters! More Roberts isn’t necessarily my cup of tea, but there’s scope to do so.

Regards mark687 It's not anything to do with River "only" being a spin-off (when I bet she sells more than some Who ranges), it's just that we've seen this exact same lineup of special guests so very recently. It's just not as easy to be excited for the second time as it is the first. You can only be first once.

The Masters/Missy didn't cross paths with other incarnations in 'River 5'. Here they will.
That's a big difference surely? (Well I'm happy with it )

A little disheartening to already see so many posts in this thread calling it a "gimmick." That's a bit dismissive/flippant, for an effort that's pretty colossal in its undertaking--Fitton and Dorney spending weeks writing scripts, editing, revising so it all fits together, the (I can only imagine to be) Herculean task of trying to schedule as many busy actors into the studio at the same time as possible, a troupe of actors learning how to say their lines just right and how to respond to the rhythms and cadences of each other, Ken's undoubted need to focus in the extreme to get the performances he wants, the weeks (months?) that the sound designers spend making sure everything sounds just right). It's not as though this sort of thing is some casual 'hey let's do this' fanjodrell decision while drunk at the pub.

It's not as though this sort of thing is some casual 'hey let's do this' fanjodrell decision while drunk at the pub. No-one has said the creatives aren't taking it seriously, and I think you equating any objections as people calling it akin to drunk fanjodrell is the most flippant thing we've seen on the thread, far more so than anyone actually commenting on the story in the first place. If you can honestly say that this kind of thing isn't a lot more common in BF boxsets now than it was a few years ago then I don't think you're looking at things objectively. Every River set gets a "gimmick", this Ravenous set follows up one crossing over companions from all over McGann's timeline that's due next month, we've had River in Doom Coalition, Jacobi and Alex going into UNIT etc etc. And all releases take weeks and months of time to plan, produce and get ready for release from casting to recording to post, I don't think we need to add that caveat that we appreciate the hard work every single time we want to express something that isn't a tribute.

I don’t think anyone is questioning the hard work that goes into these stories, and I don’t the creatives at BF to think that we don’t appreciate it. It’s just strange to do such a similar idea so soon after it’s been done before (especially with the exact same line-up of Masters), but either way, I’m sure it’ll be good, because Dorney’s writing it and BF releases are always high quality.
