That was solidly enjoyable if not spectacular. I don't really like rolling out that old cliche because it has negative connotations - and it shouldn't. Katy Manning and John Barrowman are a terrific, saucy combination. The adult world of Torchwood allow Jo to say a few things that she would never dare in the company of the Third Doctor, but such is the skillful writing, she is still very much the same character. I liked the progression of the ideas from The Green Death, but when the character of ...
... reappeared, I was wondering if it was not a little too much. But again, the writing rose above that and I thoroughly enjoyed this story as a whole. And how good was Stewart Bevan? It would be great to hear more from him in Big Finish. With a role like the one he plays here, it would be easy to go over-the-top, or overdo things, but he gave us a great performance. My score would be 8 out of 10.

My very first Torchwood release. And I really enjoyed it! Yes, the story is not the most original, it was pretty obvious where this was going. But the banter is amazing and made me laugh out loud several times, this is where the real meat is. It is so well done that I only in the end realized that this is a two-hander in the main part. I also liked that the sexuality of Jack (one of my major turn-off points for the character) has been toned down. This will go right up with my favorite "feel-good" stories for bad days. Well done comedy, and I am happy that it is stand-alone and you do not really need any previous knowledge. However, maybe this is NOT a story for vegetarians. Will this convert me to Torchwood? Not sure. But, well, the first step is done.

It's my favourite of the single-disc releases and doesn't require any prior knowledge of the show.

I have been known to listening (and watching) things completely out of order because of my poor discipline and chaotic nature. It is great that there are so many fandom wikis out there. Luckily I am not bothered by spoilers.
Just checking up on your suggestion.
I guess it is more of a horror type story? Or related genre?
Not sure yet if I am planning on joining Torchwood, but of course I am open to suggestions.
I just got this one because I love Katy Manning and the Green Life really is a well done comedy.

If you liked the vibe of The Green Life, you may enjoy The Last Beacon too...

I can only humbly agree with The Main Man above: The Last Beacon is a terrific release. In fact, it's a riot! Made You Look is definitely more of a horror story - in my experience, it was an edge-of-the-seat experience. The ending infuriates some, but I love it. It gets me every time. Anyway, if you do decide to listen to more Torchwood, you're in for a treat, I think ...
I would say very much so. You get to know the characters throughout the story -
{Spoiler} almost too well in some cases!

Haha, sold, but only because I know overenthusiastic camping fanatics all too well from my NZ days of doing research expeditions and camping in the bush. And if the blurb is anything to go by... might bring me right back to the "olden days".
Going to pick that one up. Right now cannot to have too much laugh out loud comedy in my life.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Not sure about the other releases... for the next couple of months I am well over my BF budget (again). But I might come back to it.
(famous last words )

Absolutely delightful from start to finish! Jack and Jo were a joy to listen to, and the very thoughtful and faithful characterization made this momentous meeting between UNIT and Torchwood personnel really something. I also really liked the way it felt like the story was skillfully building on its predecessor even if not all that much had really been added in the way of new elements, I thought that was quite well done. I also thought this story did a superb job of balancing lighthearted and serious elements, one of the best I think I've ever heard. Thanks all for a lovely story!

"Yay Daddy, are we going to a petting zoo?!" "No, we're gonna watch a 12foot insect bite the head off a sheep!"
Second track and I love this release already!

A worthy creepy crossover-sequel to one of my favourite Classic serials! But beware of the MAGGOTS!! (By the way, I think The Green Life deserves to be featured as an audio extra in the forthcoming Season 10 Blu-ray set.)

I would also recommend the Fehndahl experience. As in Watch the Original then listen to Eve Miles in Night... It's a similar sequel Setting like Green Life but much much darker. Honestly both Night... and Green... fit the tone of their prior stories pretty well. I am excited for Sargasso too but we have had many a auton story since so I expect something completely unique.

Well that was rather good. Jack and Jo get on in a very interesting way. As a sequel to The Green Death this works thematically very nicely, demonstrating Torchwood’s somewhat different approach to issues compared to the Doctor (whose values Jo very much carries the torch for).

That was proper brilliant, that was! I loved it all, the laugh-out-loud one liners, the mystery, the moments of high drama, the Voice, the ethical questions at the end, the slightly saucy lines (oh those two! ) Katy Manning and John Barrowman made a superb duo and it was great to hear Stewart Bevan play a famous Voice, I liked the twist and extra helping of nostalgia very much indeed. And the mentions of some modern issues (post-industrial regeneration, sustainable food sources) in a sequel to the most famous 'issues' story of Classic Who.
I could go on for ages about all my favourite moments but I won't, you've probably heard them too by now and if you haven't - do yourself a favour and buy it! (Great sound design / music too.)
This is one of those releases where the interview tracks were (predictably, given the cast) as entertaining as the story! I was delighted to find that my childhood Who journey was so similiar to John Barrowman's - both started with being scared by Autons (mine was one year later, with 'Terror' not 'Spearhead'), Jon and Katy were the Doctor and Companion and the impact 'The Green Death' had on all young Who fans in 1973. But of course I didn't grow up to play a dashing Time Agent who travelled with the Doctor and got to snog Jo on audio! What? I'm turning green? Don't worry, it's just with envy...

I may not have been the biggest fan of his overall era of Doctor a Who, but RTD was the best thing to happen to the companions of the Doctor, Jo here is both a mature, nuanced character but also clearly the older version of the young woman that knew the Doctor in the 1970s. There’s a steeliness to her character that fits as a protege of the Doctor and as someone who has spent the intervening decades fighting for what she knows is right (up to and including handcuffing herself to Robert Mugabe).

I thought this was brilliant. It doesn’t do anything new, but that’s part of the point; not much has changed in the past 40 years, sadly. Jack and Jo are a fantastic duo and I loved the initial contrast between them - effectively Torchwood vs UNIT (modern more than classic, I’d say) - and the mutual understanding they developed throughout. The fact it jumped straight into the story and filled in the backstory throughout worked in its favour.
The little insights into Jo’s life were wonderful. This older Jo has had a brilliant run of stories so far; Death of the Doctor, UNIT Assembled (specifically Tidal Wave) and now The Green Life. I hope her Legacy of Time story carries that trend.
