Pattinson: confirmed, according to the editor of Fandango. Well Affleck wasn't bad as Bruce Wayne....

I like this, actually. Pattinson isn't the obvious choice and that could really pay off. Naturally it could go poorly, as the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor did, but me personally I could see an actor like Pattinson pulling of a remarkable job playing the part, which isn't something I could say about Eisenberg even before I saw him play Luthor.
What can I say, I like a good underdog story!

I like Pattinson as an actor outside of Twilight, so I’m excited. But I do wish they would just cast Jon Hamm as Batman, who would be excellent!

Hamm would make a great Bruce, but I’m not sure about Batman.

Hamm would make a great Bruce, but I’m not sure about Batman. I think what convinced me is his performance in Baby Driver, and while it wasn’t the type of action Batman would partake in, it convinced me that Hamm could pull the physicality off with the right guidance.

Hamm's almost certainly long since missed the boat now - Reeves has been saying for ages he wanted to do a younger Batman. Hamm is 5 years older than Affleck was in BvS, and that was Warners intentionally going for an older version. I think the only way Hamm would have got it is if they wanted to keep the DCEU going and he played exactly the same Batman that Affleck did. Or if they'd cast him instead of Affleck which if it meant we couldn't have had Hamm in Baby Driver or Black Mirror, I'm glad didn't happen. My wish is that Joker does really well and DC realise you can take bigger chances on lower budget things like that and still make big returns, and we can see more out-there Bat films that aren't CGI fests. My wish a few years ago was Keaton to return for Dark Knight Returns but I think that so much of that book has been plundered that could never happen now - Nolan and Snyder nicked most of the beats. Sadly if Joker lands, DC are more likely to think they should just do more Joker projects with higher budgets, a la Deadpool 2 which tripled the budget of the first and lost almost all the charm. I wonder if it had been Nicolas Hoult who got it if the knicker wetters would have been posting "He'll just be like he was in About A Boy"...or is it only Robert Pattinson who gets judged solely on his early big hit as a lead actor?

I've never seen About A Boy, so for me Nicholas Hoult is Beast....and sometimes Nux!

Fair enough on Hamm not working with the current direction, and I am quite excited by Reeves and Pattinson, but alas, I shall lament what could have been. Also yes, Hamm in Baby Driver and Black Mirror is great, so I wouldn't want to give that up.

I've never seen About A Boy, so for me Nicholas Hoult is Beast....and sometimes Nux! NO! This is the internet - we can only judge someone based on one thing, that invariably confirms our own bias! If we judge them on other things...why that would lead to context and informed opinions and we can't have that!

Pattison is a really good actor and Matt Reeves is a really talented filmmaker. Take those two things and combine it with Reeves stated desire to make his version of Batman the world's greatest detective and I'm pretty happy to see the film.

This is what Snyder didn't get about Batman too. I'm honestly just really excited for this new direction DCEU. Now can we get a good Henry Cavill-led Superman movie while we're at it too? Created by people who actually like and get the character?

Theres an article on 1 of many comicbook sites on the Book Of The Faces that claim Robin will be in it. HHMM interesting.

Early days, so lots of rumours. What I was reading today was that it's a trilogy deal and that it'll explore his early years. I'm hoping that's less 'Qui-Gon in the Himalayas' and more Year One/Long Halloween. Zero Year might be interesting too.

I'm still not convinced he's right for this role, Batman is three roles, the playboy Bruce Wayne, the real Bruce Wayne who Alfred sees & Batman the detective.
I hope he don't start moaning about fandom like he did with Twilight, you play a high profile role like Batman your going to get a lot of attention if you don't want all the nonsense that comes with it don't do it.
I liked Matt Reeves POTA movies but not convinced he cast the right actor yet.

And to be fair, it must be really frustrating being either God or Satan to a teenage girl based only on something you did to put some bread on the table. And it's perfectly within a creator's right to call out a toxic fandom, especially when it's affecting their own life.

Well now that this is set in stone, let's take a different tack.
In a movie where Pattinson is Bruce Wayne/Batman, who would you all pick to play: • Alfred • James Gordon • Selena Kyle • a Bat-villain of your choice

Well now that this is set in stone, let's take a different tack. In a movie where Pattinson is Bruce Wayne/Batman, who would you all pick to play: • Alfred • James Gordon • Selena Kyle • a Bat-villain of your choice ? Alfred - Timothy Dalton (Bond, Hot Fuzz, Doctor Who). Mid 60s but still fit, can buy that he can play the servant but also that he was a bit of a tasty SAS type 30 years earlier Gordon - Idris Elba (Luther, The Wire, Mandela). 15 years older than Pattinson, about the right gap Gordon should be from Batman and believable as an honest cop in a corrupt system doing his best. Selena Kyle - Awkwafina (Ocean's 8, Crazy Rich Asians). I'd rather not do the male fantasy Catwoman - Awkwafina would be capable, agile, feisty and able to charm her way through trouble. Batvillain Of My Choice - Michael Keaton as Manbat/Kirk Langstrom. Stunt casting? Yeah but tell me Keaton wouldn't be perfect as the scientist who goes too far and becomes a monster of his own making.
