I'm confused by the offer on The Prisoner. It says more money can be saved by getting the 1-3 bundle, but by my calculations it costs the same amount as buying them individually (if you exclude the per order charge). Did they mean to reduce the bundle price and forget, or are they calling "not paying the per order charge" the same thing as "sav[ing] even more money"? If they are, isn't that kind of cheating/false advertising?

This is what, the second or third time Callan has been discounted? I loved volume 1 and really wish we had some idea of when volume 2 was coming. Oh and from a quality point of view, this is pound for pound one of the best offerings Big Finish has put up for sale in some time.

I have listened to all the Jack Gerson books, they were excellent. The Fetch and The Evil Thereof had some supernatural elements, the other 2 were adventure/thrillers. The "spy" ones weren't my type of story, but Dan Starkey was brilliant at bringing all the characters to life.
Have never heard the Avengers, might give it a try.

On a positive note it must mean they are confident that Vol 2 will be out at some point...

The Callan offer is good, but I've only got so many funds to go around at the moment I'm intrigued enough by the series that I'll probably check it out at some point, but I've had an interest in The Prisoner for a little longer. (For anyone interested, I've sent an e-mail to Enquires asking about the pricing discrepancy between individual box sets and the bundle pricing for The Prisoner. I should hopefully hear back by early next week )

I think I probably got the complete TV sixties and seventies series from Network for a similar outlay (Wet Job and the Film additional to that cost). I really liked the preview sample and thought the recast was totally fresh and both Ben Miles and Frank Skinner hooked me in. Just spent £1400 on car maintenance this past month though, so I guess it will have to wait until it is perhaps 50% off.

The CD bundle was the same as buying them separately .. but the bundle saving for UK buyers is in the free postage. As you're [overseas], I believe if you order the CD bundle (with a fixed shipping price) it should still work out a little bit cheaper for you in shipping costs than it would be ordering the three titles individually.... (maybe only by 50p, but it is still cheaper!)" So, the bundle itself is the same price as the individuals on CD, but the shipping, as they've pointed out, is indeed cheaper. I suppose that is saving more money, it just seems like a slightly roundabout way of saying it to me. Still, it's money saved!

It is the one series that I could say I have seriously analysed and interpreted over the years. I even did a presentation at college in the 1990's of my interpretation, which stimulated a bit of a debate amongst those older students who remembered it first time around. Listening to the audio re imagining of 'Arrival', I felt that the visuals were supplanted by expository dialogue, which removed too much of the allegorical nature of the original. That is to say it subtracted rather than added intended depth. Patrick McGoohan himself felt that the concept was sharpest in six (by accident rather than design) core episodes after which the idea was being diluted somewhat. That is to suggest that he said all that was needed to be said within the existing series and that it was in danger of becoming generic or of labouring the point. I am with the feelings expressed by others however that there is too much run time given to revisiting televised episodes, with the odd original script per set. Had the sets been all new explorations of the potential of the format to draw fresh metaphorical interpretations to notions of identity and individual liberty, by a range of writers, I would be more engaged. I was rather taken aback that Nick Briggs only visited Portmerion recently, after vol 1 was made. To me it was practically a pilgrimage back in 1996! Its somewhat spoilt now though. Last time I went it was overcrowded with day trippers and full of a procession of wedding receptions. And they weren't even in cosplay...

Big Finish produces such high quality material that I thought it'd be worth giving this a shot regardless. I've already started on Survivors and The Omega Factor without having seen the originals and I've enjoyed them immensely, and since I'd heard so many good things about their Prisoner adaptations I thought I'd go for it. I am considering tracking down the TV series for all three shows at some point in the future though

I guess you are at an advantage being able to enjoy the Big Finish dramas without having long been immersed in the TV versions. Appreciate the audio's as first point of reference by all means. I have never once felt that their Doctor Who has been inferior to the Original Classic Series after all - they have the same highs and lows, but we still like both. Its like when people grouch because they 'read all the books first' and their first point of reference is embedded in their internalised vision too deeply. So just ignore my biased view, I suppose!

Whovitt - that really is the best way, and one that I always choose, just dive in and take what comes.
I have the same philosophy about continuity, couldn't give a flying fish about it.

Ended up getting Avengers The Lost Episodes 6 and 7, as those are the only Lost Episodes I don't yet own. And I got The Prisoner 2.
