Awful news - but a tremendously full life. As I said to someone discussing Blake's 7 only last week, to me it was always Avon's 7. And anyone who says Timelash is one of the worst Doctor Who stories ever has me to answer to! One of my favourite moments in any commentary ever is on the Timelash one. While watching Paul absolutely ham it up as Maylon Tekker Colin asks Paul "Do you think this style of acting will ever come back in fashion?" Paul replies dryly "I'm not sure it ever went out of fashion". It was certainly in fashion with me. Paul has had some major health issues as he's gotten older and he's rarely let it affect his humour and work even when losing his mobility. What gifts he and the guys have left us as BF fans. A wonderful legacy.

Threads merged. Would you like this to stay in Off-Topic, or move over to Blake's 7 board?

Please leave it here. The news is of general interest, not only of interest to B7 fans. Very sad news.

Hello again.
What a shame. Paul Darrow's Avon was a cornerstone of Blakes 7. His ascerbic dry delivery was perfect. His Dr. Who roles were also excellent: working for UNIT as Captain Hawkins and as the wonderfully evil and cunning Tekker.
He was always memorable whenever he appeared on television and stage. My favourite Blake Seven moment was in the Robert Holmes story Orbit. Avon and Villa are stuck on a ship that cannot escape from the gravity of a planet.
Orac then informs Avon he still needs to get rid of another 70 kilos. Helpfully, Orac points out ejecting Vila would suffice. Avon grabs the gun and hunts Vila through the corridors.
I'll leave the last word to Avon.
Vila: It might have occurred to you that this could be a Federation trap. Avon: Well of course it's occurred to me. Why do you think I'm sending Tarrant?

Incredibly sad news. I remember watching Blake's 7 for the first time and loving his portrayal as Avon. He was the first properly "nasty" long-running good guy I'd come across in fiction, and I absolutely loved him. Considering the part, Paul actually brought many layers to Avon that I'm not sure most other actors could, and his performance was a joy to behold.
RIP Paul. Thanks for the years of entertainment.

Without a doubt, Paul Darrow was pretty much the best thing about Blake's 7.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

The chapter in his bio about his drama school years has some great stories about them. Recommended reading. Especially today.

Terribly sad news and another reminder of the passing of time and how things change. But what a legacy he and the others who've passed before him have left behind in their TV and Stage work - and in Blake's 7 in particular - that we can access these days in a variety of different ways.
Their own slices of immortality.

Beyond gutted. By far the best thing about B7, even when he was hamming it up. He brought life to truly one of the greatest characters in Science Fiction.
Well now......I dont often get sentimental when actors pass away but this one hit hard.
RIP
