www.bigfinish.com/news/v/doctor-who-the-war-doctorLooks awesome, I'm excited to hear what they do. However, pissed off that yet again the download price is exactly the same as the CD & Download price. I'm going to order the CD version and then give them away.

There's a supposed podcast with John Hurt, but really is an Avengers/John Hurt teaser of just over 4 minutes, not really a podcast but a commercial, worth listening to as a bit of fluff, but nothing substantial and not as stated.

It's wonderful news. Who would have guessed we'd have not a single War story but an ongoing range? That was completely out of the blue.

Indeed, of all the new generation of Doctor's he was in my view going to be almost impossible to get, I just considered that he would have no particular good will towards BF (not that I expected ill will, but that just BF was just a job offer) whereas say Tennant may well actually want to work with BF, and as such scheduling and even acceptance (of the job) may have come at a price too high for BF. Well... If BF can get John Hurt and Derek Jacobi then I think BF have turned a corner, in so much as unless someone really doesn't want the role (thinking of perhaps Ecclestone here), then there is pretty much no one they can not now get.

Best news all year for me, I just hope they manage to keep "Captain Grumpy" and hopefully it'll be in a similar vein as "Engines of War" (darker but with some humour - not too much tho')
Cheers

I think this will be what I listen to while I drive up to visit my parents for Christmas. I misread the announcement at first and thought the prequel was out next month rather than in November of 2017.

I know it helps Big Finish to preorder stuff but as so many Big Finish releases are coming out I need to prioritize newer releases first.

Wow they weren't kidding about it being big news. Great to see JH is happy to continue with Doctor Who, being such a big name. I wonder if this one will be broadcast on the radio at some point.
Who would have thought John Hurt would be our first new series Doctor?! Tennant next, surely.
I hope the idea of BF doing the Time War means we will see some of the Gallifrey characters in action again at some point.

I'm sure they know we cant afford to pre-order everything years out With no saving for the bundle I'll be leaving buying later Hurt-McGann sets till next year.

Normally I'd be the same, but this is one set of releases I'm glad I don't have to worry about prioritising for next year. BF can have this money now, with the likelihood that they won't get any for other new releases (at least for a while). Cheers Tony

I'd like to think the same Tony but after the unexpected nature of the Supersub, Churchill, River, New-Counter Measures...I'm trying to prioritise 2016 never mind 2017 First world problems!

I'm putting priority on the bundle for The Time War.
I'm still relatively new the BF (not quite two years), so there is a LOT I have to catch up on. I've decided the 8DA, 4DA, 3DA, Early Adventures, and Novels are higher priority for me when catching up than the MR, but only because the task is easier to accomplish.
Sadly, I'm still a long way from catching up on the 8DA, but I am caught up (or nearly so) in those others. I may have to just "jump ahead" though now that John Hurt is in the mix. . . and with Jacqueline Pearce in there too!

...and I see Big Finish are on their game, with a "Collected War Doctor" section already on the site.

Hurt sounded pretty enthusiastic in the mini-podcast. I expect some of the Nick Briggs haters to pop up an complain that he wrote these first ones, but I've never really had a problem with him myself. I do want to hear a podcast where someone makes Nick eat his words regarding how doing the Time War wouldn't work. I'm glad he got the project rolling despite that!
Despite the excitement over Hurt here, I think I'm more interested in the 8th Doctor installment. I almost decided to preorder just the 8th Doctor title and wait on the Hurt ones, but then I saw the Bundle option and just went with it. (but yeah, it is disappointing that they didn't knock even just a couple quid off the Bundle)

I've already seen the Briggs bashing at the usual places I can only imagine those people haven't heard Dalek Empire or Lucie Miller/To The Death. That's a perfect tone for The War Doctor. Nick can do grim Dalek tales better than anyone. These bundles dont tend to be discounted because we're all getting the pre-order discount price already. Like Dark Eyes - that didn't look like a saving untill all the volumes came out so the bundle for DE is 80 quid for all 4 rather than 40 quid each, the individual price. It would be nice to get something though - like the 8DAs used to get us a fiver off the Companion Chronicles. Wee things like that make a difference.

Not totally unexpected but still welcome news. I do think it is kind of like Big Finish starting to make 8th Doctor audios all over again. A Doctor who is more or less a clean slate with no real televised continuity to worry about except his beginning and his end. Otherwise, whatever BG wants to do. And what a surprise, Nick doing the writing & directing honors for the first box set.
