Interesting, hope it's good. I love Counter-Measures & the first New Counter-Measures box set was good but the 2nd one was a real drop in quality for me.

I know I should be very very excited by this news, but they are presumably linked stories (Movellans/Daleks) so just buying the dorney one isn't really an option and after seriously disliking TNCM2 'The Splintered Man' I don't feel confident about the second one. (I won't rehash it all now but my main problem was that the regular characters felt 'wrong' - I know this is very subjective, but that's how it was for me.)
But who knows? It may be as brilliant as 'The Night Witches'. For once I might wait for reviews; in the UK we get free delivery on bundles so there's no extra cost for coming in a bit late.

I loved the original Counter-Measures, and while I liked the New Counter-Measures sets I don't think they were as good as the first four. I think the ongoing story slowly bubbling away in the background of the original run was possibly the best thing about it, elevating some otherwise 'good' episodes to 'great' ones, and the complete lack of anything like that in the "reboot" left what could have been 'great' episodes as only 'good'. Having said that, if they're going to focus the stories a bit more, like how these two releases look like they might be a 'Part One' and 'Part Two' sort of thing, then I think there's still plenty of mileage left in Counter-Measures yet Even if they are separate, they'll have put a lot more time into just these two to make sure they're at their best, as they clearly didn't think the range was selling any more. They'd only make what they thought were strong new entries to keep the range alive, so I'm very hopeful for these

Well, they've made sure the word 'Dalek' appears in a title, so they're doing their best to push the range!
Put them in the story and they'll have added a customer... me!

It seems strange to move from boxset releases to single story releases especially as these two appear to have a fairly obvious link.
I can think of many ranges that have gone from single releases to boxsets, but none other than this that have done it the other way around!
Still I like the fact they are living up to their name - Counter Measures!

I'm excited about this. While I thought the 70s era CM was not as good as the original, I thought that they Hollow King was a terrific story and that they cancelled it just as it was finding it's feet again. If these stories are as good as the last one then I hope we keep getting more!

And these are actually quite new stories. I had thought they may have been stories that were recorded for a NCM3 set that got shelved, but if you look at the Movellan Maneuver page, the Backstage tab shows that it was just recorded two weeks ago.

Over the moon with this. NCM2 took a dip but after The Hollow King there's still lots of promise.
I just hope we get more stories with original threats. That was when the series was at its most successful.

Hello again. My favourite Stubagful line! I enjoyed the original series. Daleks I can understand as they were the original enemies faced by Gilmore et al in 1963. The Movellans? Bit leftfield but I'm guessing that the Counter-Measures team get caught in the middle of the Dalek/Movellan war. There is also that warehouse in London where the cannisters of Movellan virus were stored. Intruiged...

Agree, 'The Hollow King' was a terrific CM story with the 'New CM' action vibe I'd expected from the 'reboot' but didn't always get. {Spoiler} In classic CM Rachel would have been in her lab doing some vital research. Here she did that AND got to smash through a fence in a tanker - my favourite moment! Go Dr Jensen!
Maybe the feedback they got did convince them? We know the cast and characters are all brilliant, it's up to the scripts to let them fly!

I think it is a much safer bet for BF to go for single releases, which although are more expensive pro rata than the box sets, don't amount to an eye-watering £35.00 all in one go for the punter.
Regardless, I'm happy that the range has more stories in the offing.

That was when the series was at its most successful. To my surprise, I find myself wavering over whether to get these. (CM is my favourite range, I thought it'd be an instant order.) You've put your finger on the reason: for me the essence of CM is that it's not about fighting the standard DW monsters - it's investigative, intelligent and intelligence-led, and embroiled in machinations in Whitehall. The only real mis-step, in my opinion, in 6 highly original boxsets was the Great Intelligence story that (almost) finished the range off. That said, although these may not be the Counter Measures that I know and love, if BF are just sticking some big-name baddies with titles to hook in some new listeners from the wider DW fanbase, I may buy them to support the range - in the hope that if it proves viable, it'll going back to being its own thing.

I do love this range and glad it will continue in a slightly diminished form... I love these actors in the role and I enjoy the stories and yep I know I’ve said it before but I enjoyed the Great Intelligence story This is an intelligent well vocally acted range and as am not a fan of Torchwood at all this satisfies my Intelligence/Security story needs. But I know eventually I will succumb to Torchwood but that’s only when all else BIG FINISH produces dries up lol so thankfully that will be a while.

From a financial point-of-view I can understand why they're going down this road but I definitely agree that it doesn't feel right for the sort of series CM is, or should that be was.

A minor point, but playing around on the website this morning I noticed the Counter Measures ident on the Collections page has been amended to read as :
Counter Measures Case Files
Life beyond the Dalek Gambit perhaps?

I think my initial post on this thread was a bit churlish - of course I'll be pre-ordering, how could I not? Of all CM, the ones I love most are the 4 classic sets with their Cold War spies and paranormal plots - but if CM have to return to their TV roots and fight aliens to be commercially viable, then so be it.
I loved the dorney CM story in 'Legacy' so much, of all the stories in the set it was the one where being fully at home with the spin-off range and characters paid most dividends. And like 'The Hollow King' it reminded me just how excellent CM are when they get the stories they deserve. Here's to many more.
