Thanks for Bumping search function for finding the Thread was proving frustrating.
(Now ducking for cover)
IF BF did a Corsair my query is How they make Him/Her different in personality from Drax, River, Captain Jack, Jenny, the 4th, 10th, 11th Doc (the more chilled/confident versions), as from the description we have the Corsair sounds like a adventurer who causes disruption but with no harmful intent/ outcome The Doctor even calls them "one of the good Timelords" so their intents / actions must align at least?
Regards

I think with the "one of the good ones" thing they probably meant not one of the sh** ones, as in not one of the bureaucrats or politicians.
I'd never really thought involvement from Gaiman was a real possibility, so I always considered the Corsair a pure DW character not a Gaiman one, but I've now seen people saying that Gaiman being involved is what makes them interested in the character. So I think a key to making them different from some of those characters (I don't think they'd be that similar to some of the others. I'd always envisioned them as a sort of Helena Wells from Warehouse 13 meets Jack Sparrow meets Han Solo type of character) would be to have the character and world surrounding them be created by Gaiman himself in his style, whether that means him writing a story, overseeing a boxset or whatever. And from then on, just see how that type of character reacts when thrown into a Doctor Who setting.
Also, Alexander Vlahos said he wanted to play them, and tbh, I wouldn't be opposed to that. We also have Cyril Nri, who's Shopkeeper from the SJA is supposed to be them as well. And, since I've mentioned HG Wells, Jaime Murray is someone a lot of people have fancast as the Corsair, and I'd be happy to sacrifice her as the Doctor if that meant having her as the Corsair, tbh.

Regards mark687 I don’t think there is much of a difference, but that is in part the attraction. It is having your cake and eating it! Neil Gaiman creating his own unbound Doctor, but called something else, so that character can coexist with the Doctor in the same universe. And isn’t going to be constrained by the Doctors motvations/attitude or past experiences.

I finally broke down today and read the Thirteenth Doctor comic featuring the Corsair. I ended up really enjoying the story and I think it has some very powerful emotional beats throughout that really justified the inclusion of the Corsair.
I did end up having a few problems with the story, though. Just how she was written from this one story, she really comes across as a more honest, swashbuckling version of Drax. I think this comes down more to the kind of story the comic wished to tell overall - it’s a bit generic truth be told. Personally, I’d really like to see some of those drunk adventures Gaiman wrote about in his notes - or at least something a little wilder and more fantastical than a simple heist. Again, that’s something I think suites Drax and if these become the normal types of stories for the Corsair then it really defeats the purpose of having Drax around. I’d like to have both characters around rather than only one of them!
In any case, now that I’ve got a taste of the character, I really want more! I don’t think I’d go so far as to say I want a full spinoff box set - I think I’d really like to see the character pop up in a few other ranges and develop a little more of an identity. I could definitely imagine a fun adventure with the Fifth Doctor as one of those times the characters had drinks together (and the hilarity of the Corsair constantly pushing the Doctor out of his comfort zone) or maybe a team up with the Doctor and Romana. Given the Corsair’s TARDIS, maybe we could have a “proper” pirate story or two?
And if those appearances in the other ranges justify it, then I could easily imagine myself following a spinoff range for the Corsair. There’s just a lot of potential here that makes me excited to think about.
