You know, now that you mention it, I actually do rather like Attack of the Cybermen ...

I just realised what it was that bugged me about the last episode. Others (myself included) have already queried Romana's motivation and her odd behaviour in the last 20 mins that seems to come out of nowhere, but there's more to it than that.
Her behaviour would be more appropriate if it was a suitably dramatic and momentous climax to an epic story of Dalek villainy where the stakes are incredibly high. But instead the whole situation in the last episode - Daleks controlling a planet, etc. - is a fairly bog-standard Dr Who adventure, the sort of situation the Dr (and Romana and Leela) have successfully sorted out many times before. It doesn't feel epic or momentous enough to carry the major role in the ongoing arc that Romana's last stand deserves. And the final situation faced by our heroes would have been a fairly bog-standard episode 2 or episode 3 cliffhanger in the original series or BF's main range and yet here it gets elevated to the level of Romana's very own Kobayashi Maru. The whole thing just seems very insignificant by Dr Who standards and Romana's reaction to it all just seems totally disproportionate and overblown.

I was also confused as to why Romana had to stay at all. The TARDIS leaves before the Daleks even find her, and the Daleks were secretly active on the planet before they even arrived so it’s not like finding Romana will make them leave Unity alone. If it had had been a situation where they needed someone to buy them time to flee it would have made sense, but as it is there was nothing really stopping Romana going with the others.

I listened to this today and thoroughly enjoyed it. All the stories were interesting in their own way, though that ending was a surprise.
