Just a couple weeks after my burnout thread and a great discussion about companion variety, we get this announcement. I’m really genuinely hoping that there’s a variety of companions in 11 and that our new regular in 12 is the breath of fresh air we needed for companions.

That we are getting Weeping Angels in this set seems to be hugely significant - how long can it be before new series elements start appearing in other classic series ranges?

I for one am not suffering from Leela fatigue... possibly because the first Gallifrey episode I've ever listened to was during this past weekend's YouTube marathon. Series 12 is an auto-buy for me as she's in it. It's the Nine's presence that's got me sold on picking up Series 11.

This will be the Weeping Angels third appearance with a classic Doctor, right? It will, but it’s the first time a new series element has crossed over into an ongoing classic range. The Classic Doctors, New Monsters sets were put into production quickly to capitalise on acquiring the new series licence, as the other ranges are planned in advance. There’s Weeping Angels and River Song in the Doom Coalition saga, but I think that’s a little on the fence. Of course, it’s all one show, but I would consider this the first proper new series element in a classic series range.

I see the 5th & 8th Doctor encountering the Angels and all I see is the classic & the nu eras interacting. I don't feel the need to put an asterisk beside any of the stories. So with the Angels encountering 4, that makes 3 appearances as far as I'm concerned. It is practically old news by this point. Others mileage may vary.

Any Leela fatigue I have is from the Fourth Doctor and Leela pairing, exactly how it has been forever. Adding another companion fixes that!

I don't really fret about what range these things are in, with it being as you imply in one continuity anyway, we got Davison with the Angels 3 years ago then McGann with them after. BF are clearly moving towards being as fluid as possible so I don't think they'd even consider terms like "classic series ranges" anymore. It's all a bit limiting and implies some kind of hierarchy as though those appearances somehow don't count as much. They're just another small jigsaw piece in a never-ending puzzle. As Shallacatop says, it was an easy way to get the new elements with the classic into the marketplace pronto but now, years on, I think the walls have come tumbling down for the most part - with last week's anniversary release proof positive of that.

And throw a new element into the mix? Great. Having to wait 4 years to get it? Not so great.

Plus fatigue now doesn't mean fatigue years down the line when the things actually drop, surely.

She's been such a consistently great actor for over 40 years.... I mean Lou went from Who to Omega Factor to the legendary Tenko to Eastenders (when it was getting 15mill viewers) with LOADS in between on stage and screen. I think you could argue Tom is lucky she works with him

Well, yes, I said that it was the third appearance in my post. I was merely saying that this is the first time the walls have tumbled down, so-to-speak, as previous crossovers were quickly put in place to capitalise on the eras interacting. This appearance is significant in that it’s the first time a new series element has crossed over into an ongoing classic range. We’ve now reached the point where it’s fluid, whereas I don’t think we quite had that before.

An interesting choice - we know Series 13 has eighteen episodes, so now these match. If "each Doctor has an ongoing range of 3-disc box sets" although if they *had* to bring Tom up to 18 episodes to make that work, does that mean we're getting three sets a year for each Doctor?
And hey, can't complain about more stories being added to a existing box set!! Feel free to do that as much as you'd like, BF!
