lol, oddly find myself conflicted by these stories since I find so many of Freud's theories objectionable, distasteful and even puerile.

Ep1 was interesting but not enjoyable so I won't be getting the rest.

It was okay, but unlike other releases I found that I had a hard time giving it my full attention. On the whole it was enjoyable, but not something I plan on buying the full run.

No. Still trying to decide whether I will or not. Unfortunately his work is still used as the basis for much in the psychiatric world, and I would wish that the fame and myth that surrounds the man got reevaluated so that his work could also be reevaluated and removed from the modern world for the basis anything but a reflection on the past. To me, this is like taking a distasteful real person from history and making them the hero in some story (and without listening to the audio I don't actually know that's what's been done, just guessing at the moment).

I'm curious what makes Freud distasteful? Having not really looked into him at all, so curious where this comes from.

A lot of Freud has definitely been debunked; however, no matter how distasteful some of his thinking may be, I'm not actually sure I've ever heard anything against him personally.
Several familiar radio actors in this British version of the series, incidentally.

Racist, sexist, homophobic and much more besides, therapies of dubious value or just down right dangerous. One of his most important/impactful theories was based on the diagnosis of one child he never met, although unfortunately that kind of things is not that unknown in his field. This article gives a good idea of just some of his theories problems, however I do take task with parts of the article, Freud is still taught and used academically, my gf's sociology degree from London Met only 3 years ago forced her, and me by association, to learn a great deal about his ideas and theories. Don't get me wrong Freud was a product of his times, my issue with Freud is the impact his theories and legacies have now, not what he did and said in his day.

That's all I'm going to say on this. I do not share your level of passion for this. but I do feel more informed.

I hope that doesn't count as this week's other reveal. I agree that Freud's legacy is most likely mainly both distasteful and destructive. It might have helped if the story series put more distance between Freud and his theories, but some of them (ID, SuperEgo) seem to have actually been cast? I think I'll pass at least for now but I suppose it could be an interesting series if one manages to overlook enough.

I got the free episode to check it out to see if I am interested but haven't listened yet. The fact that the original German version of these were highly regarded does intrigue me.
Anyways Freud is interesting to study on an academic level but I think in practice Freud's theories are not really used anymore. We know a lot more about psychology then we did then.

Even wrong steps can lead to answers. If it wasn't for Freud perhaps we wouldn't know what we know today.

Like most fathers of any science, they are all mostly proved incorrect as time passes and knowledge is gained, but one should always know where it began to understand where we are now.

Well, I am not a fan of Sigmund Freud's theories, either, but I went ahead and downloaded the free episode to see if I will like it.

A lot of Freud has definitely been debunked As has a great deal of Aristotle. "Great" thinkers are sometimes just the people who make their really bizarre ideas popular.

Listened to this finally. It was...okay. Interesting murder mystery, and spent have of it thinking of Vampire the Masquerade. but otherwise, if these ever go on sale, I may grab them.

I downloaded the first free ep but all of your reviews aren't really enticing me to give this a listen.
