Nice to see Nick is writing this. Finished Jekyll and Hyde, has he?
Well, someone had to ask!

I'm excited for this but, I have to say, that's a horrible trailer. If I didn't know the TV version of Breakaway so well I'd have no idea what was going on, it's mostly people yelling at one another (it would be interesting to hear what someone unfamiliar with the TV show makes of it). Sounds like the icy cool Dr. Helena Russell has been replaced by a younger less ice cool model, which is a pity.

The September 13th release date is cute for fans but, yeah, I can get anyone's frustration over the delays to multiple other ranges while Nick's working on this. When the subject of Nick's work being continually delayed came up last month we had posters offer defences including "maybe he's got writer's block..." and "Maybe he wants to spend more time with family". I don't think "Maybe he's put his workload back to write, produce and direct a Space 1999 reboot" was a guess from many quarters. I'm OK with it as I'm more onboard for this than I am Jekyll & Hyde or Charley 3 anyway but I can see why some will be a bit miffed that a newly announced range is being prioritised over some titles that have been announced for the longest time and some, like Prisoner 3, that's been paid for ages ago. There may be other factors involved in any and all those delays of course but, yeah, not ideal.

I often find BF trailer's lacking, struggling to be more than shouting random lines - a bit of narration wouldn't go amiss in them, I think. My takeaway is that Mark Bonnar's not so much doing a Landau but doing the Hugh Laurie school of "American but from no state inparticular" accent, it seems. One day they'll let him just use his normal voice.....

I also wonder if the delay to The Prisoner 3 was impacted by 1999.

I feel as if I should be the target demographic to buy this.
I love audio drama. I remember being a child watching the programme. I even recall having a toy Eagle space craft from the show.
But this release does not hold any interest for me, which got me thinking.
I wonder how Big Finish gauge the potential market for these releases and how do they decide to put their resources into a new endeavour like this?

Nope. No interest. No attachment to the IP, no attachment to the actors, not a ton of love for the creative team. Not even the illusion of an appeal like some other ranges I dipped my toes in. Pass.

I think that the introduction of Star Cops must have had a bearing, as that showed that there is some mileage in selling space stories to us lot.
Add in the Gerry Anderson fans to the mix and this could prove to be quite successful.

Pity other fandoms like the Stargate ones weren't as open to audio continuations of their fave shows.

Well I'll buy. I'd have preferred UFO, but 1999 is no doubt the more marketable series. It'll be interesting to see how far they diverge from the original.

I've heard worse, but this one certainly doesn't do much to convince the unfamiliar to give this one a go. If I buy it, it will be at a later date when they put it on sale.

Ordered my copy a few minutes ago.

I'm very interested in this, though it seems an odd reboot, keeping the original time period and visuals intact rather than updating them. In the case of the visuals, that's a good call – they'll only be on the covers and the Eagles are gorgeous designs – but making it into an alternate history to keep the "1999" title seems strange to me. Space: 1999 is one of those series well-suited to a reboot. The original show had a lot of promise and good ideas, but didn't always succeed in utilizing them. There's more room for reinvention and opportunity for improvement.

I don't think changing the title is really an option, so alternate history it has to be. There's a recent Space 1999 comic that ran with this, going so far as to show JFK on the Moon at a ceremony starting work on Moonbase Alpha.

It's an absolutely dreadful trailer, it's just folks shouting all over the place, and if I didn't know the show it would put me off, in fact the trailer has to a degree stopped me pre-ordering.

Now I haw very little memory of the tv show, something about person who can change into a animal? A fire? And a few pg tips cards.......
Now I am all for new stuff to try but why oh why is it a briggsy reimagining, now bf have no lack of talented writers so why can we not have a new team do this and Briggs just get on with doing the stuff he should do.
And not to impressed with the casting either
I’ve ordered but hope that going forward it either impresses so much I don’t care or we get more interesting writers......

I remember seeing a few episodes of Space: 1999 years ago and I thought it was dull... it was certainly no UFO!!! So although I'm not interested in Space 1999 audios a re-imagining of UFO on audio would be cool. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that the Anderson/BF team-up leads to those one day.
