The story is the most important aspect, but it’s not the be all and end all. If Big Finish acquired the Doctor Who licence back in 1999 and just had Nicholas Briggs reading new adventures for the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors, would they still be going now? I don’t think so. Would you seriously have bought into the range? I have my reservations; I certainly wouldn’t. The story can be top notch, but if you can’t concentrate because you find the voices distracting, for whatever reason, then I think that’s clearly a negative point. I think that point sticks more when someone has been hired for their impression, the whole point is it shouldn’t be distracting. To clarify, this is a general “you”, not pointed at anyone in particular. Yes, to clarify my above statement. I still believe that the story in the Chronicles ranges are the most important aspect of the ranges. I've been thinking about that because of the CC range re-listen I've been doing. However they only work here at BF because of the immense amount and variety of choice, and that there are other ranges that offer full and original cast stories. My point was that when I was able to get over the fact that someone else was telling them, I was able to appreciate these ranges for what they were, and was able to enjoy more of the quality storytelling that is the hallmark of Big Finish.

My point was that when I was able to get over the fact that someone else was telling them, I was able to appreciate these ranges for what they were, and was able to enjoy more of the quality storytelling that is the hallmark of Big Finish. That was my biggest hurdle with The First Doctor Adventures initially. I found it incredibly difficult to bridge that gap between the original cast and the reenactors. It was a real struggle. What helped enormously was coming into contact with a pair of stories that took the themes and ideas of the era they were recreating -- the aura, so to speak -- and did something they couldn't have done on television. I've found this with the reboot Thunderbirds as well: the braver it was in its story, the more I came to enjoy it. Ironically, the little touches of modernity saved the FDAs for me. The past is there and it's well-respected, but there is an acknowledgement that it can't be as it was. They aren't the original crew. So, you try something different. Something that plays to the strengths of these new interpretations while honouring the old.

It'll be fun to have Danny Pink back, but weird that none of the stories seem to involve Clara or Bill. Anyone know why?

I used to not be remotely interested in Companion Chronicles or Short Trips or anything of the like. They're basically audiobooks, ie. not full cast, ergo not the real thing. I did not care if it was read by an original cast member or the first actor they could find. It just wasn't something I could enjoy like a full-cast dramatisation. Or at least that's what I used to think. Through some of them being technically full cast (Solitaire) plus other things like the Early Adventures which used to be glorified CCs, I slowly started getting used to them and the format, and now I'm perfectly fine with them. Hell, some of my favourite audios are Short Trips and I think the Lost Tetralogy of BBC audiobooks is a great run for the Twelfth Doctor. So yeah, as long as a story is well told and doesn't majorly contradict "canon", I'm all for it, especially if it features my favourite incarnation of the Doctor. Strange to say i started off on single narrator audio books-Stephen King mostly,John Le Carre and thoroughly enjoyed them. Then moved onto Full cast for some unknown reason i scoffed inside at the Companion Chronicle range (until recently). Now I thoroughly enjoy the range and enjoy the mixture so much so that i have a certain feeling that narration would not annoy me in the Full casts 😂.It would however interfere with my own imagination building the scenes and the worlds by myself.I know people enjoy the Short trips and i have honestly listened to none of them-Yet. It is on its way back as I am back doing the Omega Factor narrations and also am about to start the Bernice Novels narrated by Lisa. For me its the narrator-if i dont engage i cannot listen. It will not be a problem with The Short Trips range since i enjoy most of the Doctor Who actors anyway. Geez what next will i start reading and devouring books again as of old and casting away the audio medium?

Oh wow cool. So happy I have preordered this because this sounds great and these are exactly the kind of stories and actors I was hoping for. I loved the Caretaker and getting another story of the Doctor and „PE“ Danny Pink arguing will be a treat. Plus yay, Osgood is getting her Tardis trip.

I'm excited for this because more Twelve is a good thing in my book, but I'm kinda disappointed that Clara, Bill and Nardole seemingly aren't featured in any of the stories, because at the moment this range seems to be the only way to get more stories with the more recent companions for the moment, since the New Series Short Trips seemingly aren't allowed to feature New Series companions for some reason (I might be wrong about this, but so far the majority of the NS Short Trips have been companionless or feature Classic companions - the only exception being Jackie so far).

I wonder if that's so the first story with Amy, Rory and Bill isn't written for a competition. Not sure.

Samuel Anderson and Ingrid Oliver are two really good announcements for the set. There’s untapped potential with the former and Ogsood is brilliant and it’s presumably another story that’s taking us post-Zygon Inversion.
It’s a shame that the other two stories don’t have any other guests from the Twelfth Doctor era. It’s to be expected, given the previous three Doctor Chronicles only had two. I do think Jake Dudman’s impression of Twelve would be better suited to some more familiar voices, especially if these are becoming more dramatised than narration, as I don’t think it’s all that convincing.
In the absence of regulars, it’s disappointing that there’s no Clara, Bill or Nardole. Despite the lack of regulars in the Tenth & Eleventh sets, I did like that the stories spanned their entire eras.

Have any of the 12th Doctor companion actors even expressed any interest in doing Big Finish? I vaguely remember Matt Lukas saying something along the lines, but what about the others?

Rose, Martha, Amy and Clara have been used in previous set though. Weird.

The Danny Pink story sounds like one of the options I considered for last year's Spragg contest (before the No New Series Companions rule) - I didn't have much besides "the Doctor and Danny go to a planet, where Danny helps negotiate a peace in an alien war." And the title "PE's Process". We'll see how close it is!

Danny Pink - why could they not have left him well and truly dead. By far one of the worst things in 12's run.

I wasn’t a fan at the start but he has grown on me. I dont think he was bad but never really go that he was companion material.A combat veteran who become a casualty of a war.I think it was great he truly loved Clara and he had genuine concern about the danger to her of where her adventures could lead her. The actor in himself was wonderful with the material given to him and a deep rich vocal for audio. It will be interesting to see where they take him with the audio

The soldier boy thing was annoying at first but in the end, I think it works well for putting a mirror in front of the Doctor and his ptsd.
