I had to go revisit and reevaluate this after being reenergised by Pimpernel. I have to say Vanity Trap -Stuart Manning Has really captured me I did have a liking for it originally but have found on revisiting it is SO much more.I have commented on What Are You listening today? Thread. Very glad you could go back and find more enjoyment in it - partly because even though I loved the first and last stories in this set, this thread has me scared of listening to the other two. I am finding more and more that perhaps I shouldn’t immediately write something off and I definitely did with this set I just found it ok on first listen and also I should listen to the track that most appeals to me first easier if they are stand alone stories. The first didn’t grab me on first listen which kind of affected story two then story three for some reason. But after listening to Pimpernel I thought to myself, well the stories have great writers and a favourite Tardis team go back and relisten and am so glad I did as 3 and 4 are excellent 3 most definitely as I immediately relistened after I had finished it and last was just well done Doc no Peri analysis...so episodes 1 and 2 will get their spot in the limelight tomorrow but strangely I may do Vanity Trap again as I head to bed later as it’s pretty complex story with plenty of atmosphere. I have to say I find myself very much going back over stuff thinking why did I not like that ? and am glad that I do.

Revisit Minuet in Hell, I've grown to really like it.

But Minuet in Hell - it's a bit long, but I always have great fun listening to it. {Spoiler} The Brig, the Doctor, the Doctor and a big red sweaty demon. Can't go wrong

Can't go wrong Well I was persuaded to relisten to Time and was suitably rewarded with a very original tale and a great 8th Doctor adventure-Minuet I agree is overly long

I decided to revisit a few tales/box sets recently having a week off and in a partial lockdown with no pressing engagements apart from going to gym and buying groceries lol and when to make the next cuppa.Being limited without a thousand things going on in my head has really enhanced my listening pleasure I have barely even switched on the television at all. thank goodness I didn’t write this set off completely but on so enjoying Pimpernel I owed it to everyone who created wrote acted in directed did sound design you name it, to really give it more than a one off listen.
I am so glad I did because it’s not linear I hope and there is no overall arc to the stories I delved in to the ones that originally I didn’t mind Vanity Trap and Conflict Theory ,these are two cracking tales (IMO) Vanity Trap I totally adore now from Sarah Douglas and even to Colin Bakers daughters performance something I didn’t realise. It has all The trappings of a tale that is right up my street it echoes other shows Sapphire and Steel and Dark Shadows and now it’s getting played a lot .Conflict Theory is fun too I love all the dissection of the Doctor and his and Peris relationship.
Am onto the first two tales now but will seriously have to rescore this entire set because it’s become more than standard fare.I was probably jaded by it being a box set but I can tell you if these had been single releases I do not think I would be as unenthusiastic as I had originally been...slap my wrists
i mean the guys who wrote LIVE 34 deserve a second shot

well Headless Ones-just upped a point it hammers its message home but it’s an enjoyable enough tale I guess it would be very hard to Follow LIVE34 as it was a very much experimental tale but as 6 and Peri goes it’s a straightforward tale onwards to the next tale by Jacqueline Rayner and already I LIKE it just for the throwaway Peri origins line I think Covid robbed me of enjoyment somewhere when I listened to this seriously but there was a lot of shit going on at the time and the adverts aren’t annoying me this time
The Thing about LIKE-Jacqueline Rayner is that it is quite genuinely chilling to the extent of how we are playing out our guinea pig status now.Am not 0n Twitter or on Facebook ,Facebook was a forum that used to really make me feel a certain amount of unease getting bombarded by all things I was glad in the end when I hit the delete button, even when I go to a webpage and an auto play video goes on I hate it .Divergent is the only place I actually go to lol,the day it starts bombarding me I would probably leave it too

I wonder if it’s a good time to relisten to Exile ? I'd call your Doctor first, as clearly you have a medical condition that needs treating!

all in all this set deserved the relistens it got and is more enjoyable than I first thought and definitely scored a lot higher and given the strength of the main range release recently somehow I think VOL2 could really kick things into gear for Post Trial Peri and the Doctor because there is so much to be mined in their relationship .I will look forward to its release

I originally wrote off this set of stories but have grown fond now of them all. This one in particular.Someone who knows more than the Doctor.Wonderful portrayal Of Myrna Kendal by Sarah Douglas An excited Peri and a top form Colin as always. The air of a Sapphire and Steel about it and the Hollywood dream of immortality but at what costs.Great story...wish they had shown us Colin in the Pertwee outfit...any fan art welcome😎

It’s rather a novelty I think to see the Doctor in what is essentially a Sapphire and Steel story. Certainly had the pair of inter dimensional operatives be involved in said story, they’d have definitely been a higher body count.

I love the interplay of Peri winding up the Doctors love of the theatrical and being basically a show off

Just finished Conflict Theory. I'm glad I didn't know that it was a Nev Fountain story before listening to it just now. I would have been much more suspicious of what was going on had I been thinking Nev. As it was, I was just wondering why The Doctor and Peri seemed to be acting out of character and so was surprised as to exactly what they were doing.
The Vanity Trap was a bit confusing and I needed to relisten to the beginning to fully appreciate it. Overall, quite a nice trip back in time.
I did not like Like. The problem is that I have now seen or heard the story too many times. The Orville episode "Majority Rule" (S1 Ep 7, October 26, 2017) was a similar story that immediately comes to mind. I'm sure there are others along similar themes, possibly even some other Doctor Who ones.
As far as the Headless Ones. That was a tragic powerful story.
Now to listen to the Behind the Scenes.
