Well, at least as green as producing the plastic for the CDs and shipping them about the place. I fear whatever we do will be bad for the environment, let's face it.

Once you've downloaded the item to your local computer, you are not using the internet to take advantage of it, so there's that.

Once you've downloaded the item to your local computer, you are not using the internet to take advantage of it, so there's that. But you are using electricity from the power grid to listen to it. LOL.. Its a "lose/lose" the more you go down the rabbit hole.

:-( Either way you're using electricity.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Downloading a play through the internet must surely have less impact than buying a plastic CD and jewel case coupled with the pollution generated by the manufacture of said CD and jewel case along with the travel miles involved in delivering the product.

I download directly onto micro SD cards, which are then interchangeable between Laptop, Tablet and Mobile Phone (dependent on location). Not an infallible option as all three still need charging regularly, but at least it takes a small bite out of my Internet usage.

Did anyone see the pic posted on faceybook this morning of the climate change protests (this pic was taken in Australia) all the school children that left school, most of them in the pic were using their mobile phones to take selfies or film everyone.. There was some sort of "climate/energy calculation" used to disparage etc.
Unless we all "pocket mulch" like the vegan kid from that Simpsons episode.. Or live in grass huts and make our own clothes/grow our own food etc. I know in my house I recycle as much as practical with no feelings of guilt. U don't need every light on in the house when it's night time etc.

I would imagine that most of the people at the protests are people who have already made varying degrees of change to their lifestyles already. Nobody can do everything but most people can do something and most people want to do something. Reducing our dependence on single-use items and non-renewable is nerdy is a start.

Can confirm on the changes. I can say pretty definitively, as well, that more than a few of those mobile phones were used to spread awareness about the marches. You know, detractors, the main purpose of the event. It's a ridiculous criticism, isn't it? People are so concerned that travelling into the past would mean they could upset the course of history with one small change. Rarely is that mindset ever applied to the present day. Except, in situations like this, and it wasn't just the kids that were marching on that day. We had retirees, university students, wind musicians, middle-aged mothers, business owners, union reps, schoolteachers, the list goes on. All done with the assistance of police on horseback, who shepherded us through the city. If you can get all those people, from all those nooks and crannies of the city, together to unite under a single cause... I don't understand the people who think they wouldn't alter their lifestyle. From what I could see, no age, nor profession was immune from learning a few new lessons to meet a changing world.

I have a friend who completely disagrees and reckons the whole thing is a con. HHMM . Just look outside.

My coworker volunteered to take over my shift for a couple hours while I headed out. She marched against the Vietnam War in the early 70s, so no persuasion necessary. I'm glad I went. It felt good and, as we're currently in a world where people are being shot and gassed for trying likewise not that far north of us, it mattered that we could do it in cooperation with the police. That's a right we shouldn't take for granted. Particularly on the issues that matter.
