Quite a nice story for Tosh. The non-linear narrative paid off and Sebastian characterised well. I wouldn’t mind more pre-Series 1 takes on the characters.

This is another absolute scorcher from the Torchwood single-disc releases. Lou Morgan's first audio script - I hope it isn't her last - really piles on the reasons to despise the characters. Do you know a Sebastian? I know one, and Lou has really captured his inability to move too far away from being an utter toad. With Lucy Robinson's terrific Madeline, his mother, you can see where his abhorrence comes from. Even her vulnerability is purely motivated by worshiping her monstrous creation. All this works so well in underlining what a truly decent, loyal character Tosh is. She's my favourite TW character, and Naoko absolutely inhabits the character. She is treated so very badly here, right up until the last moment, you just want to give her a hug and some cake.
I do take issue with the author's insistence that Sebastian spends a lot of time 'man-splaining' things to Tosh, mainly because I find the term to be a rather sexist generalisation. Madeline is just as bad in the way she speaks down to Tosh - so what is Madeline doing when she does that? 'Overbearing-mother-splaining?' Anyway, that's just my little gripe, which is restricted to the extras. I understand that the term is used to describe a male talking down to someone, but not only males are guilty of that. I say this because I know a Madeline too!
That out of the way, I really loved this story. It succeeds in also working very well as a haunted house mystery, and puts me in mind a little of MR James, or even Gordon Honeycombe's Neither Sea Nor Sand in places. And so well played by all too!

Actually, Lou Morgan's first audio script was in God Among Us 2 which was released back in February, Flight 405. Nice episode. Probably my least favorite with Tosh but that doesn't mean I did not enjoy it, the narrative structure was interesting and I was overjoyed to have a new audio with Hugh Skinner.

I enjoyed it, very different from High Skinner in The Windsors.
Naoko's fab as usual. Wish she'd get to work with the others more often thought. I think Believe is the only time (Wasn't that boxset brilliant!). Would love a story of just her and Owen.
We're these creatures the ones who killed Owen's wife?
Does anyone have a list of the order people were recruited into Torchwood. I thought it was before Owen until his name was mentioned.

It was a fantastic story. I have to admit I thought Lisa Bowerman was playing Madeline throughout the entire story I also wondered about the reason the stables were let go. Madeline mentioned a problem with the grooms. I kept expecting them to say Sebastian was found to be gay and then treated horribly by family.

Has anyone received their CD yet? I had pre-ordered this and Torchwood One and I got Torchwood One on Saturday even though it was released after this one. I don't think I've had a dispatch email for this one either.
No one has mentioned it in the Today's Arrivals thread either ...

They had a printing error with the Vigil cds and so they released the download when scheduled and should be sending them out in the next few days.

This was really good. Loving the character development for Tosh and the way the story evolved in parallel with the past and present. Brilliant acting all round on this. I have to say the current series of monthly Torchwood has been stronger than ever. I’m a definite subscriber for the next batch as it’s paid off in spades this time around.

This was an interesting story and not at all what I expected when I first started listening. Great premise and conclusion.
