Someone somewhere has worked this out. So given both the TV and BF if i was to hop on board the TARDIS which one would i have a higher chance of coming out alive and am talking all cast members including extras? Impress me as you all usually do...seriously

Second Doctor. None of his companions died and it was only because of the Time Lords that they were forced to all part ways.

The Third Doctor for me. He never seemed to be massively rattled until his last story (when he faced his own fear). Even when he was in a dilemma, he always gave the impression of being fully in control ... well, most of the time. And there was always something reassuring about the 'mother hen' comparison Jon Pertwee talked about.

Weeelll... technically, none of the companions of any of the NuWho Doctors died, either... although one might ask if some had gotten a fate worse than death... I don't think I would like to travel with any of them. On the other hand, would dying be a price high enough to pay for travelling with the 8th Doctor? Swoon.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I think the Fourth Doctor would be the safest to travel with: no dead/ mindwiped companions, usually someone to say goodbye to at the end of an adventure. Plus, there’s always the chance of a snack with him.

Yeah, well, even in the reduced-length-series Colour era, Pertwee still had a rather large number of "Doctor-Lite" episodes - "Man of Sleep" is one moniker given to him. So... anything can happen when Three is taking a powder!

I'd say the first 4 incarnations are the safest to travel with. From Five onwards, death seems to follow him and although I love Eight, I know I wouldn't ever come out alive of his TARDIS in the end. Well, maybe Six is safe too. Evelyn managed to have lots of adventures with him and got married a while after she left him.

I'd say the Thirteenth Doctor was the safest. If my memory serves me correctly, three of her currently eleven adventures feature absolutely no deaths (during the time frame of the episodes themselves - deaths recounted prior to the events of the stories themselves don't count in my mind). A 3:11 ratio is better than any other Doctor, so she must be the safest (Although Resolution was a bloodbath... swings and roundabouts?)

A 3:11 ratio is better than any other Doctor, so she must be the safest (Although Resolution was a bloodbath... swings and roundabouts?) I had the same thought about the Second Doctor. His companions tended to finish up rather respectably. Two left with little fuss, one chose to leave on her own terms and two more, although robbed of their memories, were allowed to continue their lives more or less as per normal (barring Zoe's interactions with the Company). But then I thought about the survival rate of the supporting cast and it tends to be a pretty even split. If it's a Cybermen or Ice Warrior story, all bets are off. I lost count of how many were offed over the course of The Seeds of Death. The entire Moonbase crew, countless soldiers in London Control, more than a few Ice Warriors as well. Even being with the Doctor at the time doesn't seem to count for much if The Space Pirates and The Krotons are anything to go by. At this point, I'd say Thirteen is a pretty safe bet. The problems tended to be more conceptual than visceral.

I'd opt with the 3rd Doctor, I'd feel safest travelling with him. However on the flip side, it's the 8th Doctor that wouldn't be safest travelling with me

I'd go with Troughton. I may not have any memory of it by the time I got sent home, but that's the mark of a good party, no?

That's a nice way of looking at it, and it'd be amazing while it was happening. I think what this thread's made me realise is that I'd likely travel with some of the Doctor's more arguably dangerous incarnations:

From a wonderful 'UNIT recruitment film' somewhere in the DVD extras:
"Our turnover is a bit high."
(Actually it wasn't. UNIT must've had cloning facilities (in Season 7/8 certainly) because if you look closely, the same guys get killed over and over and over again... )

As a full Companion, either Three or Four. The worst that can happen when you leave either of him is that you get married without warning to someone incredibly dull with a big helmet, or get dumped with a geranium. (For clarity, these were not the same story.)
If your luck is in you might go off to do exciting research, save the environment with the love of your life or save an alien people and become President back home.
And 60% of the time, after you leave these Doctors you get to have K-9 for your friend; those are good odds aren't they? 'Affirmative!'
