Is there one story that you actively avoid putting in the CD player or playing on the app ? it can be from any range. and give a reason.

The Dark Flame. There is so much that is good about it - the sound design, the front cover, the 7th Doctor - but it does my head in. After about the 4th time they had a character tell me AGAIN that the planet below was a seething lava pit I gave up. I know that already whoever the writer is, I'm not thick and I do have a memory. And don't get me started on 'there used to be an ancient cult...' aaaaargggh!

Nekromanteia, Dr who and the pirates, Creed of the Kromon, Beyond the ultimate adventure.
I'm sorry, I can live with a stinker, but these are like hugging a cactus.
Brutally painful.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Bang Bang A Boom. The rare BF that I never bothered to finish. A shame because I really enjoyed the authors’ previous story and was looking froward to it.

Contenders for the 'Metal Machine Music' of Doctor Who eh? Nekromanteia was a fairly atonal listen in general, not just the problematic interpretations of what constitutes 'ground breaking Dr Who'.

Tales from New Earth - I got it on a sale just because it was on sale, but I've got zero interest in it. For me, it was a warning sign that Big Finish's New Series box sets were getting a little out of hand. It may be good, I've never heard it. But I don't like the episodes it's based on very much, and giving this of all things its own set just seems weird. Very far down my list of priorities.

Am Surprised at Purates I think it’s a very beautiful well told story I really struggle with pirates. Tonally, I feel like it's all over the place. The unreliable narrator bit sets me up on the wrong path to start the story. The villain (odie I think? not entirely sure) feels hammier than Soldeed (quite an accomplishment) and the entire pirate story just doesn't feel like it can carry the weight of the framing story after these perceived missteps. As for the singing, I refuse to dignify that with a response.

Today I am not listening to The Boy That Time Forgot (I probably actually liked it until the later parts but have never been able to listen those later parts again), Nekromanteia (I was doing okay just ignoring the controversial parts until some discussions here revealed just how much people can be offended by it), and The Ultimate Adventure (if there is going to be singing, I will require Scorchies, lol). Perhaps I am not listening to Exile either, from the sound of some of the comments, or The Dark Husband (every time I summon the courage to give it a go, someone manages to talk me out of it - sounds like I'm just not going to like the characterization of Hex in that story?)

Oddly enough, Dr. Who and the Pirates is one I really like in spite of the singing - go figure, but somehow it's done so it doesn't seem out of place. The tone does seem all over the place, I agree, and yet for me it seems intentional and skillfully done. It seems to register that the author has done a remarkable job of combining dark and light elements in a very unique and creative way.

The Anachronauts. I know many people like this story, but it's a pet peeve of mine when a key plot point revolves upon a bit of science that is totally and glaringly wrong. Bad science can ruin a story for me that otherwise might be good, and it's especially egregious in this story, since it makes Steven and the Doctor look like unschooled idiots. I just can't get past the point in episode two where Steven and the Doctor discuss their bad science.
Cryptobiosis and The Dollhouse (TW) also sit at the nadir of my BF listening.
I've listened to most of the others mentioned in previous posts, and agree that I won't again listen to Nekromanteia, Exile, or The Dark Husband, but Pirates is one I actually liked.

Well i held off for ages thinking nah this isn't for me.Its a Piss take of Doctor Who and i hate episodes that do that to my favourite show.I struggle slightly with Kingmaker too . But eventually i just listened and found a very, mature and poignant story waiting to be unleashed.Maybe one day you will too

'The Abandoned' - an absolutely dire release. incomprehensible and on the verge of being inaudible.

It is amazing what kind of deep stories BF is hiding behind over the top comedy, weird plots and strange characters. The Wormery would be another example.

Yes,The Wormery too I held off on that one and now really enjoy it. The Kingmaker main gripe for me wasn’t humour but just the Doctor being involved in the publishing of Doctor Who and the blah blah.It was a kind of fourth wall scenario if that’s the right term..

The Time Vampire - utterly incomprehensible. Not a bad story underneath, a different script editor / director might have asked for rewrites that would actually have made it understandable
The other BF release I will never return to is The Writing on The Water. Not intrinsically bad, just not for me
