I think that Fury from the Deep might just be my favourite Doctor Who story. It is in the style of children/family television that we just don't get now. And it contains some of the most terrifying set-pieces that tap into the nightmares of our youth. The fact it is getting this release is truly brilliant news and I cannot wait to get my tendrils on it!

Pre-ordered the steelbook from Zoom. Having the steels for both that and Faceless ordered but no date for either is a bit odd but they're bought and paid for so I can just wait now

Well - I'm too busy to DU for just one day and on my return I find THIS!! I think my scream of YES! was loud enough to {Spoiler}kill seaweed! Brilliant news, a truly great Second Doctor story. I love Victor Pemberton's novel and the audiobook of this one, a richly atmospheric seven disk epic wonderfully performed by David Troughton. And now we'll be able to see it! *foams, froths, hisses, bubbles and squeals with delight* (Just getting in the Fury mood there. )

I really love the horror fonts highlighting the pulpy titles of these serials. The Macra Terror! The Faceless Ones! And now - the most 60s-horror-movie title of them all - Fury from the Deep!

I'm happy with anything they announce, but Fury is a great story as well! I dream of having a complete Doctor Who shelf with all those pesky gaps plugged.
However. I have grown wary of these animations ever since I found out they trimmed a couple of things from Macra. I know it's minor, but I'm enough of a purist that it's uncut or nothing. No cuts!

They said it was due to budget, but then why waste money colourising something that was B&W originally? I'd much rather they used their budget for the uncut episodes in B&W than cut episodes in colour.

I know that this may be sacrilege but I didn't mind the cuts. I actually even liked it better. It seemed to improve the flow of the story and I believe it worked better for the animation. There are times when I'm watching the animated episodes that I it seems the characters become static and are waiting for something because they are stuck waiting for the soundtrack. It kills the flow and pacing of the story. We have to remember that we are taking things that are live action with living and breathing actors and switching it out for animation. The timing and flow of movement is different. It's almost a completely different medium. So I'm ok as long as they are mostly true to the original, but not necessarily stuck to if for every second that is was recorded.

Any more word on a date for Faceless Ones or Fury?
We slate BF on this forum over Jekyll & Hyde and Callan 2, the BBC are getting off lightly over this.
What's the point in announcing so far in advance without a release date?

The BBC are not getting off lightly, this is completely different to the shambolic behaviour from BF over Callan & Jekyll & Hyde.

It's probably hoping for too much, but dangit I really would like to see these animations included as the 'official' versions of lost episodes in future "Complete Season" Blu-ray sets.

When you compare the rate at which they are releasing blurays to the rate they are animating lost stories they will not get them all done in time, unless the blurays slow down and the animations speed up

They are, Russell Minton has already said that any completed animations will be the default inclusions in the sets with recons for the stories that aren't animated of course. The costs are too prohibitive for the season sets to have any new animations not sold as standalones in advance but any done by the time of the releases; Power, Shada, Faceless, Macra, Fury will all be included as will the animations from the DVD era.

When you compare the rate at which they are releasing blurays to the rate they are animating lost stories they will not get them all done in time, unless the blurays slow down and the animations speed up And when Charles Norton was asked about the range being sped up, he said there was no feasible way to do it any faster on the budgets they have, so there's zero chance we're going to get to the stage where everything is animated by the time of the Collection releases. Of course there's nothing to say they can't keep the animations going on even after the relevant Collection set. Even though, yeah, we always want more as fans to have two bluray ranges that are self-sustaining going on at the same time is remarkable. Given the 2Entertin days where two animation studios went bust working on Who releases, the way Charles and BBCWW have found a way to make them work years later when the physical media market is in worse shape..man that deserves so much praise.
