Really enjoyed Galaxy 4. The story isn't anything sparkling, but there's some nice moments there and the animation is a really polished production. I think it's probably overall the best wholly animated story to be released so far. The Evil of the Daleks set the bar, greatly helped by h the black and white version as recommended by @davygallagher, but G4 has improved on the character movement and liveliness. It's a real testament that each production tends to be better than the previous one. Based on the clips of The Daleks Master Plan using the Web of Fear style animation, I think we're getting to a point where we have definitive animation types that should cover the styles of the remaining stories requiring animation. Let's hope the range continues to thrive!
It was nice to have the production subtitles, which I'm assuming are usually omitted as the animations don't tend to be finished until near release. It was interesting reading the differences between the 1965 and 2021 productions.

Great news, I thought historicals were judged too difficult I think that was more pure historicals, like Marco.

After some digging I think I found the interview about the historicals being too hard. (But I think that was back when BBC America was not founding the animations yet) www.digitalspy.com/tv/a26824309/doctor-who-animated-episodes-reconstructions/And you are correct, they explicitely mention Marco Polo, Crusade and Massacre but not *all* the historicals. Although they do mention that location shots are quite hard, and why they did not do Highlanders yet, so nonetheless a good sign that they are doing Snowman as I believe it has a lot of scenes on location too.

Are they going to re-record all of the dialogue done by people in yellowface?

Are they going to re-record all of the dialogue done by people in yellowface? Given they'll probably sort the look in the animation anyway, there wouldn't be much of a point. Besides, the excitement for the release is pretty unanimous everywhere I'm looking.

I presume (though I am not endorsing) stcoops point is that the actors also had to put on cod-accents as well as the makeup. I believe if S14 can come out with Talons untouched - and with a PG rating from the BBFC meaning even a small child can watch it, that Snowmen will not be subject to any different standards. Indeed the only cuts or alterations that censors ever demanded on Talons were on weaponry. BBC Enterprises were told by then BBFC Director James Ferman stated (and the odd phrasing and grammar are his): "In fight between Dr Who and Chinese henchmen, remove all sight of chainsticks produced and used in attempt to strangle Doctor." The only wording on the BBFC advisory label for Talons is now "Some mild violence and infrequent drug references." Their last few Chairs have had a sensible policy where archival ratings and new TV are held to different standards, while advocating any special features should illustrate the "different times". Essentially saying that were Talons made in exactly the same way now..it would not be a parental guidance rating. This takes into account the audience that these sets are not kids, are well aware of what is acceptable and if they are to show them to kids, would be responsible enough to add context. And a LOT of worse offenders are likewise marked as U or PG, many of which are on DVD from Network - and even beloved Only Fools And horses used the P-word for South Asians, C-forEastern Asians and N-word for people of colour, on top of homophobic and trans slurs. Of course yellowface is unacceptable. Now. It was then too, IMO - but I sit on an incredibly privileged throne of white, liberal (well, socialist personally - but you know what I mean) hindsight 50 years on. There were absolutely BAME actors even then and before saying this stuff was wrong. We lost one last year in icon of minority representation Louis Mahoney. One of the first black people to join the RSC and to us, known for Frontier in Space, Planet of Evil and Blink. Louis was a massive advocate for REAL parts for actors of colour, not the stereotypes of the black strongman savage, the devious yellow menace Oriental etc, etc. Episode 2 of Snowmen was passed as "U" in 2004 and "contains very mild fantasy violence" the only description for the Lost In Time set. Meaning the BBFC do not believe parents even need to consider any issues with it. We will see what the full animation rating is but it will not - I am positive - be vastly different.

I do agree with all that. I perhaps should've phrased it more as 'it's unlikely there'll be a big blow up over it, given the target audience.'

So what is Big Finish's involvement in this? Gary Russell (who used to work for BF in the same role that Nick Briggs has now) is running the team behind it. The animation team are part of another company owned by Jason Haigh-Ellery. I think it’d called Big Finish Creative or something.

Hardly surprising that this was the next choice to be animated.
Call me naive or just plain daft but I’d imagine considering how bulky the Yeti are, they’d be quite easy to animate compared to say some of the historicals.
